well, I am still working on the 0.8.0 and have decided to add a few more things before releasing it.
here's a list of stuff that is going to be added in this version:
updated gcc image (gcc 2.95.3, binutils 2.16, automake, autoconf, texinfo) which links against bundled glibc 2.2.2 (patched version for fegetenv/fesetenv)
added qt3 (3.3.6) libs and headers to zgcc image
new java image (already uploaded and can be used with current 0.7.9, includes both blackdown and jamvm/classpath as well as jedit)
new automounter-lite package (can be used with any version of pdaXqtrom and any Z model) - either install automounter-c3000 or automounter-lite, not both
updated pdaXqtrom-install.sh script so it can find java, openoffice and dictionaries images as well
added java plugin for firefox (won't work unless you install the java and gcc image as well of course
added gftp 2.0.18
added leafpad 0.7.9
added putty 0.58 (that took some work to get the window sizes right)
added ImageMagick 6.2.5 with X GUI (5.4.1)
added gyach 0.9.4 (yahoo client)
added gtkyahoo 0.18.2 (another yahoo client)
added multi-aterm 0.2.1
added denemo 0.5.3 (without lilypond so maybe will be removed)
added mc 4.6.1
added epdfview 0.1.2
added gpaint2 0.4.3
added smsessy 0.1.1 (need more work, no bluetooth support yet...)
added gpsdrive 2.10 (seems to load and display maps correctly, but don't have a GPS unit to test with)
added gpe-gallery 0.97
apps added to the experimental feed (not part of the apps image, need to be installed manually):
gpe-edit 0.13
gpe-word 0.2
gpe-filemanager 0.23
gpe-soundbite 1.0.6
gnokii (compiled but not tested yet)

Hi Meanie,
is there a way to leave gaim out of the basic pdaxqtrom installation?
The last installation of pdaxqtrom prepared some links (/usr/lib/gaim IIRC) which prevented the QTopia-Gaim to be installed.
I could not delete these links. the cleanup script didn't delete them and root could not delete them either,
only a mv /usr/lib/gaim /usr/lib/gaimold
worked.
Thanks for all your work.
I'll soon get my second C3100 which I'll use as a testing platform fpr pdaxqtrom, maybe pdaxrom later, and other interesting but slightly dangerous software ;-)

problem is, a lot of people want gaim to be on the image. i personally dont use gaim so i wouldn't care either way.
btw, the xqtcleanup scripts only cleans up things from the base image, the apps image is a separate thing. you normally remove all the links by using the Package Manager and simply uninstalling the pdaxtrom packages.
root should have been able to remove the link unless gaim was maybe running and holding a lock to the directory.
and if you already have gaim installed before installing pdaxqtrom, it should leave your existing gaim files alone. that's why for some people gimp complained about freetype2 being too old because they had an older version of it already installed and the installer left it alone.

Hi Meanie,
What about a seperate gaim image or an installable IPK?
I had deinstalled all packages using the package manager, but these gaim links (and gconv IIRC) still existed.
Gaim was not running, so no lock on the file (except maybe an orphan lock, how to check for that and how to remove it?)
BTW: QT 3.3.5 under pdaxqtrom - do you mean a complete newer QTopia environment or only the QT libs, which make QT3-programs run?
Have you loooked into the libqt3 of Lutz in the KDEPIM/PI project on sourceforge?

I'm quite interested in pdaxqtrom- few questions though
* Xqt was slug slow as I remember. Is pdaxqtrom any faster (without the embedded option)
* How well does Abiword work in the embedded mode? Is it fully useable without a window manager?
* Can I install the pdaxrom cups package and be able to print from my Z over the network?
* Reading the pdaxqtrom page I'm unsure as to whether I can install any unmodified pdaxrom package or if I will need to re-compile
* One of the best things about pdaxrom for me was being able to run SDL apps (like MAME and zpsx) under the console and having access to 320x240. Why is this not possible on Cacko or the Sharp ROM?
Thanks Meanie- you have been a HUGE help to the Z community!

well if speed is the major concern for you then this is not for you. use pdaXrom natively if you want speed.
the main idea behind this is compatability with Sharp ROM (Cacko is more or less Sharp ROM in this regard).
i don't use embedded mode, it find it too restrictive because I use SCIM to input chinese and japanese so embedded mode is out for me. no window manager means no window resizing so if you get oversized dialog boxes, that's too bad. nothing I am gonna do about it. also, the keymapping will be wrong and no keyboard remapping in embedded mode either. any app that requires text input prolly isn't a good idea for embedded mode. xmms prolly is the only sensible app for embedded mode, but the Sharp MusicPlayer is good enuff for playing mp3s anyway.
you will need to recompile pdaXrom binaries unless they come from the special beta1 xqt feed or 1.0.x feeds, but you still might need to repackage the file structure...
and don't even try the SDL hell. there are many SDL libraries floating around for Sharp ROM and they all behave differently. pdaXrom uses a newer 1.2.9 SDL and is not compatible with the other Sharp SDLs which are mainly based on 1.2.5. So if you install the pdaXrom SDL, you might get the specially compiled pdaXrom apps working, but all your Sharp ROM apps depending on SDLs will be broken.
again, if you want speed and SDL stuff, run pdaXrom. Sharp ROM is not optimised for speed and anything running on Sharp ROM hence will suffer from that unless you compile the application statically with iwwmxt optimisation enabled (see mplayer, its been optimised and is fast but also look at its size and imagine all Z apps to be like that big or bigger) which you cannot do for applications that require dynamic library loading, ie anything that is not a single binary and uses libraries, eg. abiword, firefox, etc...

How dare you, be considerate man. Some people use gaim.
Hey meanie, what about having Xqt unmount the swap on exit? What script can I add that to? My zaurus seems to get unstable when it uses swap for a long time.

use the memory monitor to unmount it. I use gaim as well.

That's a different problem. The memory monitor doesn't have an option for the internal hard drive.

Oh no!
I'd just come on to ask about the keyboard mapping. I've only installed pdaxqtrom for Abiword and I'm disappointed to hear that I can't use it in embedded mode properly
What do I have to add to the end of /home/zaurus/.xmodmaprc to have Fn+P produce a UK pound sterling sign? (he he! I haven't even bothered setting up this keyboard yet, hence the longhand currency denotation ;p )
I could only ever recommend kino2 to Sharp and Cacko rom users for a music player but I use both kino2 and zplayer for movies.

I know it is used by some people, I didn't mean to remove it completely but make an option for adding it, e.g. by a seperate image file or IPK :-)

I am not going to create multiple app images with different apps, way too much work for me. it is going to stay as it is, one big image with all the apps. if you dont like all the apps, then install individual apps you like or build your own custom app image. the tools and packages are all available for you to do yourself. ipktools ipk has all the required tools and the apps feed has all the ipks for all the apps.

Thanks Meanie.

Just curious
Does you openoffice build that you made for x/qt run with pdaxqtrom?

Hey Meanie or anyone else. It seems that when I launch xqt the usb drive functionality gets screwed up. Can someone confirm this or help me find out why?
I posted about it at the bottom of the following thread:
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showt...ndpost&p=133556 (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=20114&view=findpost&p=133556)
I'm using 0.7.9.

That's the first time pdaxqtrom is working for me. But I have a problem - something is wrong with keyboard layout I suppose. After few writing something in leafpad or scite or aterm/xterm keyboard stops responding as it should. When I write nothing is written. Does anyone have the same problem?
My Zaurus is C3100, Cacko rom.
Kind regards,
Raul

Go to console and type "khctl disable" to disable keyhelper. The keyboard will then work no prob.

I 'm not sure but I can 't get Thunderbird working on the previous version and the 0.8.0 version too.
I get the promt where I can choose or create a new profile. After push the button "Start Thunderbird" the window closes. At the shell promt where I start Thunderbird manually "xlauncher thunderbird" I got masses of lines
*** loading the extensions datasource
*** loading the extensions datasource
*** loading the extensions datasource
*** loading the extensions datasource
and so on.
Thunderbird don 't start.
Please help me to solve this problem.
Thanks

-
what zaurus? rom? kernel?
it might just be that t-bird is a pig....how log did you wait for it to launch?
-
SL-C3100 with Cacko 1.23
I wait more than 1 minute or longer. I get only the window where I can choose or create the profile. After that nothing happens except the
*** loading the extensions datasource message.
Do you have a idea?

I get errors like the following when I try to install pdaxqtrom. The base package installs fine, and sometimes the app one. But the zgcc and java ones do not. Any ideas?

zgcc startewd doing that on my current sharp/tetsu/3100/pdaxqt. I was gonna replace the zgcc fule try again and post. seems you beat me to it.
also/ in sharprom how does one insure that the squashfs module loads automatically? I added "squasfs" in /etc/modules.conf , but that has a bunch of aliases/ so I wonder if it will work.
-
Next I'm going to try installing the cramfs images instead and see if that works. I'll post back my results.
adf, I think the module is loaded automaticly when you try to mount a squashfs image so there should be no need to add it to modules.conf.
-
I just tried installing the cramfs images and they all seemed to install just fine. Maybe it is a problem with the squashfs images. Oh well, the space difference isn't that big. At least everything works now If only pdaxqtrom didn't kill the usb drive functionality.
-
Meanie and Team - Thanks for Remarkable Qtrom
I do have a questions (which i org posted in pdaxrom thread)
Since i've 2 and 4 GB hispeed SD cards , why use cramfs or Squashfs ? I can afford to have noncompressed install
Is it possible to have pdaxtrom on my SD (C1000 running cacko) ?
where do i get the installs (not cram/squashfs ) ?
Any documentation to assist / steps for install
-
0.80 cramfs to the vfat Microdrive. Install fine. But most of the programs like firefox, thunderbird won't lunch. xlauncher -debug didn't tell me any useful info. Wondering if it's the fast kernel on my Tosa breaking some of the lib dependency. Maybe adf can shed some light onto this.

The page http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/jumbo/pdaxqtrom.html (http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/jumbo/pdaxqtrom.html) says to uninstall
libfreetype before installing pdaXqtrom. But the Qtopia app qpdf2 needs libfreetype.
qpdf2 allows zooming and scrolling with pointer gestures and the desktop xpdf does not.
Does the xpdf in pdaXQtrom behave like qpdf2 or the regular X window xpdf?
Will qpdf2 work with the libfreetype in pdaXQtrom?
pdaXQtrom lokks extremely useful, but I do not want to lose the use of qpdf2.
Thanks,
John Serafin

the installer will add a newer version of libfreetype which works for both qpdf2 as well unless you have a very old version of qpdf2

I'm trying to get dosbox running under pdaxqtrom. However, when I install the ipk (...0.6.3-3_arm.ipk) and try to run it I get nothing (X starts OK but thats it). Tring from the command line gives me a "/usr/local/bin/dosbox: No such file or directory" message - but /usr/local/bin/dosbox exists and with sensible permissions (I chmodded it 777 just to be sure!).
Any thoughts? Missing libs or what?
The qtopia one (...0.6.3-2_arm.ipk) works OK but not having a \ key is a bit of a pain and being a linux user I have a tendency to type "exit" and thereby lock the system.

Hey Meanie, nice to see you back. I never received a reply to the pm I sent you about the usb storage issue. I ended up reflashing my zaurus and installing from scratch but my usb storage functionality still dies after I have launched pdaxqtrom. It would be nice to at least know whether you plan to fix it or not instead of leaving me hanging here. Anyway, whether it gets fixed or not I still love to use it. Thanks!

sorry, I've had a lot of messages while I was away. To answer your question, I do not have this problem. My usb storage functionality works perfectly so I don't know how to fix your problem since I cannot produce it.

Dang. Could it be a hardware problem with my zaurus then? It is so deffinate, the usb will work perfectly for as long as I do not launch any pdaxqtrom. Then, once it has been launched and closed my zaurus will not mount any more. Dmesg on my desktop gives these types of errors:
[4350854.507000] sd 5:0:0:0: SCSI error: return code = 0x50000
[4350854.507000] end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 32
[4350854.507000] printk: 1 messages suppressed.
[4350854.507000] Buffer I/O error on device sda, logical block 4
Could it be that I am running tetsus 18h kernel? Could there be some program still running that prevents the zaurus from unmounting the internal hard drive? I find it hard to believe that no one else has this problem sense I have installed it from scratch and it still persists.
Oh well, thanks for the reply though.

I am running tetsu's 18b kernel still but I get no error messages at all. Did you turn off the swap before connecting the Zaurus as usb drive?
On another note, 0.8.1 is ready and available from a slightly new location: [a href=\"http://pdaxqtrom.thegrinder.ws/files/]http://pdaxqtrom.thegrinder.ws/files/[/url]
and I will be off again for a while...

Ok, I think I got it now. But it can't find iostream and probably others. I searched and they are there. This is using 'gcc'
If I use 'g++' then it compiles. I'm very new to compiling in linux, what is the most correct way to do it?

iostream is a C++ class so a C compiler (gcc) would not know about it. g++ is a C++ compiler so it can compile it. Make sure you read some books about C and C++. They are two different programming languages (ok, some may argue that), but they are related. C is a procedural language whereas C++ is an object-oriented language. C++ was developed using the existing C programming language syntax and keywords and it was developed as a superset to the C programming language. In effect, a C++ compiler can also compile C programs, but not the other way around. C programs are a bit more portable than C++ programs.
