I would like to install Altboot into Cacko 1.23 rom on Akita.
http://www.hentges.net/misc/openzaurus/docs/altboot.shtml (http://www.hentges.net/misc/openzaurus/docs/altboot.shtml)
Installing it into other distributions is trivial. just install the altboot
ipk, it should work out-of-the-box.
The above link seem to indicate that I can install Altboot into Cacko 1.23. I wonder if it will allow me to thus boot from an OZ image. My hunch is that it may install but may fail to boot since/if the kernel may differ.
CoreDump or other gurus ... ideas?
I've got Cacko setup to do everything I need while for OZ, I'm still trying to figure things out and possibly help fix some things. This way, I can test out OZ rom easily and revert to Cacko with a reset where needed.

Correct on both counts.

That is due to the different kernels not possible

Perhaps someone could backport kexec to 2.4.18-embedix?
-
iirc someone on forum did something like that and attached source.

CoreDump, I guess that brings me to the wish that Cacko/oz-opie can ultimately become "one". I guess that's the general direction yes? Though OZ-opie itself has many improvements which distinguishes itself. ok ok, let me not flog the dead horse once more ...

That would be awesome ... ... that does mean having an update release to Cacko in some sense right?
hwr, thanks ... let me search for the thread ... though my earlier search on this topic kinda point to too many threads ages back and I was like ... gum gum ...

wouldn't kexec need to be backported to 2.4.20 kernel instead since that's what the newer clamshell models have.
and no, you can't improve and upgrade cacko too much because that would then make it not compatible with the Sharp ROM's apps in which case you'd be better off just using opie

I see ... ... two major missing element in opie as it is: USB networking and Chinese input (and display?). ...
But back on thread, I guess if the backport is done, its purpose is not so much to make Cacko and oz-opie become one (as I thought it to be), but to allow folks like me to test/try out oz-opie easily ... that way, we can still be productive while trying it out.

Snappy: USB Networking with MS Windows you mean? (works with Linux)
And about CJKV display/input - there is some work done on this so expect update after 3.5.4.1 release.

erm ... ya ... USB networking with MS-Windows. It's interesting to have my pda run linux ... but to have to migrate to linux for my notebook just to have usb-networking ... ... granted, I'm sure you were not implying that ...
Looking forward to trying out CJKV on later releases.

yeah, I agree here. not that linux is bad or anything, but there are more windows users out there, me being one of them
