Title: Oe Mirror Dead?
Post by: simbaB on June 22, 2006, 10:30:51 pm
The Netherlands mirror of OpenEmbedded has been by far the fastest and most up-to-date available to me. However, connections to ewi546.ewi.utwente.nl have been timing out here for several days. I've been able to get some things from other sources but now it's preventing me from using bitbake because it wants to download a specific Qt/Embedded snapshot and can't so it dies. Does anyone know what's going on here (if anything) and when it will be fixed?

Thanks.

It's been irritating the hell out of me too
Trying to get my Z up and running (With OZ) before I go away for a trip next week, but no such luck.
Last time I was able to use it successfully was Monday.
The other mirrors are totally worthless. No RC4, no feed, nothing.
Then I tried the older hentges release-- also broken (for my purposes) and still no feed.
I'd compile some of my own packages, but like you, I can't get at the rest of the OE shit.

Anyhow, it's not just you, their datacenter ran out of fire extinguishers or something.

I don't think this is related. Sourceforge is having problems with all their mailinglists.

Of course the things are unrelated, just I had no clue about the work in progress...

Now I survey monotone here: http://www.openembedded.org/viewmtn/ (http://www.openembedded.org/viewmtn/)

Sourceforge has been having issues with server problems for the last couple months. Wasn't that long ago that they had hardware failure on their CVS server.

This really blows though, because I've been wanting to setup my zaurus with my normal apps, and I can't. Not as useful to me with a stock OZ install.

I think that server was having issues with the 3.5.4.1 build and needed to be reset but was switched off instead (reset monkey went wrong), something like that,

Hopefully it'll be up and running soon,

I figured it was something like that. I'm just glad it isn't on my end...guess I'll have to wait a while to play around some more with OpenEmbedded.

I just upgraded to Hentges Collie 3.5.4.1, and haven't been able to do and ipkg update. Can anyone point me in the direction of other mirrors.

Still not up?!
Ugh, my Z has been in an unworkable (partially configured) state for 2 weeks now--
and I can't recover it to full functionality without the OZ files

According to koen in IRC, it might be back up by tomorrow morning, asuming the reset monkey reads his e-mail.

ewi546 is up but only with 3.5.4 feeds not 3.5.4.1 feeds. We could use extra mirrors.

So? That doesn't change the fact that OZ 3.5.4.1 isn't released yet, which means those *OZ* feeds don't exist. Quit complaining about stuff you obviously don't understand

Koen

Thank you for your insight. I will presume for the sake of a quite life, that you meant to phrase that more tactfully.

I do actually understand, as I was responding to a previous quote:

I find that forums are a wonderful place to raise issues, which not all people will agree with, and are often not complaints but observations.

Piece people, piece!

CoreDump contacted me before release to get URLs for 3.5.4.1 feeds to include them in his version of OZ. I pushed proper change into .oz354x so he his flavour of OZ (I do not think about Hentegs 'ROM' as separate distro) can use them.

Then ewi was down so feeds was not finished but they are building now. I think that I will release 3.5.4.1 soon even without full feed - some apps will be added to feed after release - not to upgrades but to normal feeds.

And for 3.5.4.1+ I will add apps into normal feeds rather then into upgrades - 3.5.4 upgrades feed is big now and very populated with *-locale-* packages.

To avoid further problems when a mirror goes down, we are in the process of setting up a round-robin based master feed which redirects to one of the working mirrors transparently to the user.

If one of the mirrors goes down again, the user won't notice a thing and does not have to edit his ipkg.conf.

We could, however, use another mirror, or two

If you are interested in setting up a mirror, and you can push ~10-20G / month and have ~5G of free HDD space, join #openzaurus and let us know.
