amusing story... I once had to re-run a financial reconciliation process at work, and it went wrong... next thing I know some from accounts comes hurrying in and asks how come we refunded over a hundred thousand transactions costing the company several million pounds. I was in a panic until I discovered that it was merely the database was out of step, and no money had been lost at all; my colleagues - only later - reassured me that it had happened before and not to worry about it!
