Excellent work. Thank you.
Hopefully one day (soon) I will be able to help contribute.
-
That was a tough release. Congrats Hrw for staying the course!
With kernel 2.6 work progressing nicely, future releases of whatsoever $DISTRO should become easier, since we can remove a couple of compatibility hacks.
-
Thanks! Looks great!
It is so fast (just switched from Cacko)!
-
Fantastic effort, Marcin! Thanks for all your work. I hope you have an understanding employer...
I'm still waiting on networking hardware to arrive so I can shake-down the 3.5.4.1 distro's net functions -- perhaps this weekend.

FANTASTIC news! You folks are amazing, to say the least. I look forward to a scary weekend flash and a shiny new OZ. Finally I will try GPE!
-
Don't forget to donate to the developers - we all know that they deserve it!
-
That's right. A donation - no matter how small - is an excellent way to say "Thanks" to us. Even if we spend it for drinking a beer, it helps development, since we can enjoy being a part of a cool gadget loving community that appreciates our work

1. Hmm, no way to install additional locales. It depends on "virtual-locale-ru.ru" and "virtual-locale-locale.alias".
2. cardapplet don't show mounted sd-card
3. a whole sd-card (/dev/mmcblk0) is mounted to /media/mmcblk0 instead of first partition (/dev/mmcblk0p1).

Nice! Which theme are you using? The icons look great.

I downloaded the icons from http://zaurus.spy.org/feeds/jedhead/icons/ (http://zaurus.spy.org/feeds/jedhead/icons/)
and then you have to edit the files in /usr/share/matchbox/vfolders to set the icon.

How about just using Firefox and go to >File >Save Page As... Then you have a nice folder (Icons_files) with everything.

Hi,
Finally i feel that i can use my spitz with full potential
I am really happy to be able to install OZ GPE on my single 4 Gb partiton.
and
My all usb devices work, keyboard, mouse, usb ethernet, usb storage. I just untar modules-2.6.16-spitz.tgz and no further configuration needed. This is why i feel like using a decent distro .
Thank you.
p.s: It would be really good to be able use the wheel on usb mouse, but as far as I know, it is not possible with Xfbdev.

'ipkg install kernel-modules' accomplishes the same without going behind ipkg's back

good to hear the usb stuff is working right!

I had to copy the modules across as well as
ipkg install kernel-modules
dosent work when the usb-ethernet (external dongle) drivers are in that package

Hrw and just agreed on shipping all the kernel modules in the microdrive image (tarball is ~1.5MB bigger now) and are looking into shipping extra modules for the other usbhost models (akita, tosa) as well. I suspect we'll get complaints about 'bloat' and such, but so be it.

lmao. you will, but storage is cheap and functionality is priceless.
-
I'll probably add them for spitz and akita but not for tosa - size is a limit here.
-
Thanks for that, should point out that its not 100% necesary as it is only a small problem and so for i seem to be the only one with that problem
in other news it looks like this release has /tmp and /var/tmp wierdness like the other builds, /tmp is ln -s'led to /var/tmp which is ln-s'led to /var/tmp (symlink pointing to itself)
quick fix:
rm /var/tmp
mkdir /var/tmp
chmod 1777 /var/tmp
or for you zsh lovers (like me)
rm /var/tmp
mkdir !$
chmod 1777 !$
which i find quicker to type
i will report it as a bug in an hour or so but if you are haveing wierd problems with some programs (such as mutt) then this is the reason
also if you find that 100% volume isnt as loud in this release then fiddle with OUT2 mixer, this should get those levels back up and make the 100% unbearable loud again try alsamixer on the cmd line if you have no idea how to change this
apart from that i have a handfull of other bugs you would only notice if you are running on the command line 24/7 that i will report

try reseting the device again then use root with no passsword. if you dont see a password prompt then use alt+left or alt+right

Bravo!
I'm all for a tosa release. Not so eager for an all new OZ release--more interested in apps/polishing, but I guess sometimes it's better just to go ahead.
I just decided to do a long term trial of OZ on my 3100. Right now I have gpe, maybe later will run both. A seriously stupid problem came up, though ( I strongly suspect user error) I can't seem to get my ambicom wireless card to connect to my network. using the net applet (which was much better than I had remembered, btw) I enter the relevant info essid, gateway, etc... the essid doesn't seem to "take" and I can't connect. I seem to recall this being trivial when I first flashed to the alpha.
The wifi is working- my tosa connects just fine .
sugestions?

I finally got time to upgrade from rc4. I noticed that a fat formatted sd card is mounted under /media/card but an ext2 one is mounted under /media/mmcblk0, whereas the /etc/fstab is the same for both. I remember talking about something similar on the dev list. How can I 'fix' this? Where's the script that controls the mounting? I'm guessing that /etc/sdcontrol is only for 2.4 kernel roms 'cause it's not there anymore. thks
I managed to find the last post (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=69&t=18353&hl=mmcblk&view=findpost&p=128587) that referenced this.
-
try changing the disk label of the device, hotplug/udev tends to like that

normally its set when you format the device, to be honest i dont know haw to do this on a filesystem without a format but perhaps mabey somthing in the /sys tree, try a google search
or look at the flags for mkfs.ext3

You can use the tune2fs command to change the label of an existing ext2/3 disk.
The syntax is
tune2fs -L label devicename.
Eg. tune2fs -L Datadisk1 /dev/mmcda1

I've not had a much of a chance to figure out my last question about changing the sd mount point, so if anyone has a pointer to the mounter script I'd greatly appreciate it. I think it's part of the altboot process, so perhaps coredump could give me a clue?
On to another problem/challenge I've encountered. In the previous (read 2.4 kernel) OZ releases I was able to add symlinks to be set up under /var to point to non-volatile filesystems to preserve stuff like the ipkg lists & my cron tab. Now under 3.5.4.1 (GPE) /etc/default/volatiles/00_core doesn't seem to be followed. I've made the following changes (which as I said worked previously):
/etc/default/volatiles$ diff 00_core 00_core.org
27a28
> d root root 0755 /var/lib/ipkg none
40,42d40
< l root root 0777 /var/lib/ipkg /home/local/ipkg
< l root root 0777 /var/cron /home/local/cron
< l root games 0777 /var/games /home/local/games
Any ideas? thks
-
I can report it works like a charm on my Spitz. :-)
I am running GPE.
A couple of questions:
1) Will a swap partition of 256mb make any difference in speed?
2) Can anyone suggest a mplayer frontend?
3) How can I change the title font (I mean the font used in the window title, it's really tiny!)
-
Tried OZ/Opie on my C860 and found that whilst all seemed to work great, the taskbar and icons on it were just unreadable due to their size.
Great release otherwise though it seems. Keep up the good work

another one does not read ReleaseNotes...
rm ~/Settings/qpe.conf and restart opie

Ok, I installed Totem from the feed, it runs, works for a second or so and then segfaults.
When run from a console, I get a thousand GTK+ errors... Any ideas?
Also, are there any unicode fonts in the feed? Will unicode fonts from the pdaxrom feed work with OZ & GPE? I already have a greek.xmodmap (thanks to fellow Greek user Nick), I just need some fonts!

Thanks Hrw! Now I Firefox can display Greek websites properly... Is there a way to configure GPE Browser & Dillo to use these fonts also? Greek pages when using these 2 browsers are not displayed properly (gibberish)...

Try selecting the deja-vu font in the look&feel settings panel
