You need to setup a cross toolchain.
I'd set up bitbake/OE (http://openembedded.org/) and then alter the recipe so that that patch is applied to the kernel when you build it.
hrw: Why was the patch removed anyway?

Enabling this patch require also OPIE patching as ioctl() used to control buzzer is removed so no alarms/keyclick/touchscreenclicks. Quality of buzzer sound is also very low..

I'm sure there was a much easier system involving a little speaker soldered to a jack plug. I think they were on sale somewhere. . . Anyone got any information on this? It just plugged into the headphone socket and meant you didn't need to recompile the kernel. (Something my friends all consider to be the linux equivalent of restarting their windows machines.)

LukeLuke, what are you trying to achieve?
Although the kernel hack is cool, the sound is rubbish - like a poorly tuned AM radio from what I remember.
I also wonder how much power the headphone mod can produce - you might be better with one of those separate, self-powered, speaker systems.

I'd advice picking the latest from [a href=\"http://angstrom-distribution.org/unstable/images/]http://angstrom-distribution.org/unstable/images/[/url] if you're going to try it. Be sure to keep an eye on http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/ (http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/)

On my sl5500 with Sharp ROM, the URL is working fine! Site must have been temporarily inaccessible.
But I just want to trigger the built-in buzzer from a script without going through qtopia or using qcop2 to do it.
Sigh.
