Post by: logo on July 09, 2006, 01:33:45 pm
Hi!

I'm looking for a WLAN USB Adapter which works generally with Zaurus.
Does anybody know such an adapter which does it's job with Zaurus?

You neeed to use a powered usb hub for all the ones I'm aware of--the Z just doesn'yt put out enough juice for usb wifi

Dlink makes one, but not with the removeable antenna.   You might consider going with somthing like a linksys WET11 wireless to ethernet converter (a little large, but has a screw mount antenna) or a linksys w54g-L (kinda bigger thena the WET--access point, but runs linux and can be made to do nifty stuff)

The wet 11 seems  a little hackable (can apparently be made to run off AA batts, and can certyainly take a bigger antenna, etc)

Linksys also makes a 54g wet, but it looks pricey.

If you are talking about a bigger antenna, then maybe you aren't talking about pocketable stuff, right?  I'm thinking about connecting my wet11 to my z for mobility with range (in the car) myself.

Hi,

it seems there unfortunately isn't any working direct WLAN USB solution for Zaurus. I think, i'll buy a WLAN CF card. Using WLAN Ethernet Bridge would be an option, especially if it runs Linux operating system but then you can't access WLAN adapter directly. But this would be an option for some stuff.

Thanks.

www.fab-corp.com has a usb wlan card that has an antenna connection.  Don't know if it works with the Z though.

Yes, there are USB WLAN adapters out there like the Senao Sub 362 http://www.senaoservis.com/senaoweb/produc...n/sub362ext.htm (http://www.senaoservis.com/senaoweb/product/wlan/sub362ext.htm)  but without linux support.
But this is the point, running such a card with OpenZaurus, Sharp ROM and so on.
