Post by: ThC on July 12, 2006, 05:33:42 pm
Hi

Just a little word to let you know that I'm still alive and starting to work on porting beta4 and uboot to our beloved c3000 ...

Sorry it took me so long to give some news but I had too much work ... btw i'm now in holydays so you can expect more news from me really soon

Don't hesitate to post your thoughts/ideas/tryouts which could help me doing it faster

oh good news for the c3000 users. but i was impatient and switched to oz already.
maybe if you create a tarball of the new beta4 for c3000, i might try to kexec/altboot to it...

no, just pdaXrom under OZ altboot. no need for xqt under oz using diff vts

Please add the support for MD replacement CF cards of different brands and sizes. Default reflashing procedure doesn't support them, so after replacing my MD to 1 Gb TS1GCF45 I had to reflash manually - it was in Pdax for c3000 topic...

I know... just using t "pdaXqt rom" for a sort of brand recognition.

status update : I've made a few trys using altboot but OZ and pdaXrom's are not buildt the same way (no init.sysvinit nor chroot in pdaXrom's /sbin dir), beside OZ and pdaXrom not using the same glibc makes altboot unusable as any pdaXrom's binary used will segfault (maybe we'd be able to use it once it will be able to kexec by itself, or is there a way to configure it so it can do it ?)
Else I'm currently working on having uboot working on my c3000 ... more news soon

i updated u-boot patch in svn,
Press 1,2,3 buttons during boot-up will change kernel command line root arg:

[1] - root=/dev/mmcblk0p1
[2] - root=/dev/hda1
[3] - root=/dev/hdc1

That's great news sashz!

The last I heard, performance of the pxa overlay driver wasn't as good as bvdd under 2.4. Is this still the case?

might want to have a look at this:
http://www.piro.hopto.org/~piro/pukiwiki/p...1%A1C3000%5D%5D (http://www.piro.hopto.org/~piro/pukiwiki/pukiwiki.php?%5B%5Bzaurus%A1%A1boot%A1%A1loader%A1%A1for%A1%A1C3000%5D%5D)

it appears that this boot loader is based on the latest 2.6.x kernel and is able to chain boot 2.4 and 2.6 systems...

thanks for that, but it's a bit cryptic...does this mean we now have a straightforward way to install Beta 4 on out C3000s?

Sure it DOES sound cryptic, and I wouldn't risk it by all means   without clear instructions and a lot of positive feedback from other C3000 users.

Meanie

So what exactly does this new bootloader mean for c3000 users? Are you just suggesting that this might get used in the next spitz pdaxrom beta?

I have been thinking about giving pdaXrom beta2 another go. I've currently got my drive partitioned like this:

hda1=900MB ext2

hda2=100MB ext2

hda3=3GB vfat

iirc pdaXromb2/spitz recommends you have standard formatting before running its installer but I think the first thing you need to do is let the installer re-partition your drive. Can you install b2 onto a custom partition setup such as my current one? Would hda1=/, hda2=/home?

I would like to see a 2.4 based pdaXrom b3 for c3k which incorporates all Meanies fixes, the new SD driver etc.

One more question, especially to sashz and ThC. Where the U-BOOT is stored? I know it replaces standard Sharp bootloader, and for now I suppose it's stored in some part of NAND. It would be very good NOT to have it on C3000's 16 Mb chip, because this chip itself can become damaged (you know these NAND things  ).

I'm going to try to replace this chip with 128 Mb one, and all I need to know now is:

Do I have any chance to do it after installation of U-BOOT and by its means? With original Sharp bootloader, as reported several testers before - no luck, it doesn't recognize empty (actually FAT16/32 formatted) NAND chip, though it DOES support this chip itself, and refuses to do anything with it, including NAND restoration.

If the answer is "yes", I'll get my hands around my hot air blower   in minutes. If no...well, it must be other way, maybe with serial cable or alike, to perform such a replacement. Sharp technicians DO know such a way, as they replace broken NAND chips on Z's.

P.S. IC programmers DON'T work with NAND.
