Title: Opie / Gpe Stupid Problem
Post by: GadgetGuy on July 12, 2006, 07:14:14 pm
Hello all,

I have downloaded all the required files as per the Wiki, so that I can run GPE on my Opie system.

All the installs went through fine

I have also change the VT terminal references in the opie config file.

All seems OK.

As per the Wiki GPE should now start. It does not. I am still in Opie, and have no idea how to start GPE.

I tried to change the VT with chvt - but no sign of GPE.

What am I doing wrong here?

I had the same issue, I had to reflash OPIE, start over, and follow the wiki exactly, and everything worked perfectly.  I hope you don't have too much installed on OPIE!
Also, I didn't move root to an external card, there was plenty of space.

Thanks for the reply. I have reflashed, and did everything step by step as per wiki ( I did not move root - as I have enough space of my harddrive).

Same result: install goes through fine - but GPE does not show up.

Any other ideas how to launch GPE?

OK, I've got it figured out.  In between the "ipkg install -force-depends xserver-kdrive-fbdev" command and the next command which installs all the gpe base stuff, type "ipkg -force-depends remove bluez-utils-nodbus", then install the three gpe main packages and gpe should automatically boot.  (If you've already run "ipkg -force-depends install gpe-base-depends gpe-task-base gpe-task-settings, just rerun it after removing bluez-utils-nodbus).  Hope this helps!

Also, I can't get a regular user account to work in GPE after the initial load, it just keeps going back to the login screen, so I just use root, maybe you'll have more luck with it   .
