I've pasted my default opera.ini from a fresh install of opera_7.25-lite-2_arm.ipk
I just installed it onto my C3100 with Cacko Lite 1.23
(I have read about the permissions issue & bookmarks, and have already applied the fix for that.)
I'm especially interested in this entry: (Does NS stand for Netscape?)
-----------------------
[Import bookmarks]
NS=0
-----------------------
Below is the complete .ini file, I would like to know what the settings mean, and if I can place the cache on my /hdd3
I also would like to eliminate the annoying, "Do you want to quit" [Yes] [No] dialog, whenever I exit Opera.
Opera Preferences version 2.0
; Do not edit this file while Opera is running
; Lines starting with; are comments.
; Default config uses 8Mb of cache, comments indicate three other configs:
; Small 6Mb, Medium 12Mb and Large 16Mb. Amend to taste.

I did some searching, but haven't found what I'm looking for.
Are there any websites for settings in Opera for the Zaurus?
1. How do I import bookmarks from other browsers?
2. How do I get rid of the annoying, "Do you want to quit" message when closing Opera?
3. Any other "important" settings that I need to know about...
Thank you,
Jon

This would be usefull. I'm going to look into it as well. Importing bookmarks would be really cool.

I also wonder if the cache is stored on "Flash" or if it can be moved to the /hdd or a CF/SD card.
I found a site for opera embedded, but most of the info is for Symbian.
http://www.mobileopera.com/zaurus (http://www.mobileopera.com/zaurus)
A quote from this site:While this is largely a Symbian-centric website, Opera for the Zaurus (and other embedded systems) may eventually be covered in more detail. In the mean time, much of the information currently available for Symbian users should remain helpful to users on all platforms.
There is a tutorial linked there, but again, most of this applies to the Symbian.
http://www.mobileopera.com/manual/ (http://www.mobileopera.com/manual/)
Also there is a FAQ for Opera5 which discusses the cache:
http://www.mobileopera.com/opera5/ (http://www.mobileopera.com/opera5/)
EDIT: The cache is stored in flash on my C3100
If I go by the info in the above linked FAQ, it is called "cache4" (It's a folder)
/home/zaurus/.opera/cache4
The above FAQ tells how to move it to another drive, (but these instructions are for Symbian).
-
just move & symlink....

Will I need to make an ext2 partition on my /hdd3 ? (it's FAT now)
Since /hdd2 is rw and is already ext2, and has 7.9MB free space, would it be advisable to move the cache there?
-
how about /hdd2??? , my hdd2 is 1.2GB, I find it invaluble when doing builds or symlinking or whatever I need, like mysql databases are on it as well along with tons of DoomII wads as well, oh I got stratagus too, so I still have 18MB on home, plenty of room for whatever...I also changed /hdd1 to rw on rc.rofilesys and placed my /tmp file there as well, thats where I am putting the cache, s/b pretty quick on the start of the drive.
-
I have the default Sharp/Cacko partitioning.
I'm not as advanced as most people on this forum, and haven't ventured into re-partitioning my hard drive yet.
I've used Netfront since I installed Cacko lite in March, and am just starting to use Opera.
I found that Opera allows you to save webpages, so that's the only reason I'm trying it.
I do most of my internet browsing on my desktop PC, except when the room temperature raises above 80º
I'll have to try re-partitioning my drive when I have more confidence, and I don't mess things up.
-
first you would have to backup your microdrive...specifically Documents directory.
Then backup ".sys" from /hdd2.
Use fdisk to delete partition 2 & 3, sb /dev/hda if you boot with no CF card in the slot
Then create partition 2 using fdisk(make it at least 256MB that way you can free some /home space, format ext2 and move the .sys file back there.
Then create partition 3, vfat of course, and move "Documents" back there.
reboot and you should be done. Symlink away move or whatever.
perhaps we can meet on IRC whenever your ready and I have time and I will walk you thru it step-by-step, btw when you do a backup it backs up /hdd2 as well, just a plus
-
Thanks bam, I'll have to try that soon.
Does the Cacko backup app really backup /hdd2 ?
I thought it just backed up the Flash.
I'm using Opera for the first time, since I had to turn off the PC.
(I'm glad that I put a phone jack in this room) I can surf in air conditioning with my Zaurus
Thats why it took me awhile to reply. I had to re-login also.

I just read through the above manual and Opera 5 for Symbian has a whole lot more features than the version I'm using on my Zaurus.
Where are all these features, and why aren't they included in the Zaurus Opera edition?
Also, that was version 5, we're using version 7 and later.
Where did these features go?
I saved the webpage on my desktop and zipped it up.
DL it for offline viewing if you want.
EDIT: I just found a page with opera.ini explained. It's at opera.com
[a href=\"http://www.opera.com/support/usingopera/operaini/]http://www.opera.com/support/usingopera/operaini/[/url]
I also saved this page and zipped it and included it here.

bam, it looks like I don't need to "move" the cache, since it isn't used on the Zaurus.
I've read elsewhere in these forums, and somewhere else, that the cache isn't used in the Zaurus.
Also, the cache folder is always empty, and the following command in the opera address field, shows it is empty.
opera:cache
I enclosed a screenshot.
Also, I found a nice feature that brings up the last several day's history list in Opera.
Type this into the address field and hit enter.
opera:history

I didn't think opera saved the cache. It always seemed to be clean when I started it up again. Could that cache setting in the config file be for memory cache? So if you increase that then you will run out of ram while using opera?
That history command is nice, thanks for the info.
BTW, where did you get that alternate icon theme from?

About importing bookmarks, I don't think you can.
I exported my bookmarks from IE, Firefox and Opera (desktop) and copied the html files to my SD card.
Then I created a bookmark to each of those files.
IE Bookmarks:
file://mnt/card/bookmarks/bookmark.htm
Firefox Bookmarks:
file://mnt/card/bookmarks/bookmarks.html
Opera Bookmarks:
file://mnt/card/bookmarks/opera6.html
-
That's what I also did. I exported my Firefox bookmarks to bookmarks.html, then moved them to -
/hdd3/Documents/Web_Files/Bookmark_Files
Then opened the html file in Netfront, and bookmarked it, and did the same in Opera on my Zaurus
