Title: Software Installation
Post by: tfischer on August 01, 2006, 10:24:32 pm
Hello,

I am fresh new to the world of Zaurus. Just got my new C3200 and loaded Cacko 1.23 and it works great. However, I downloaded couple of games and put the *.ipk files in my Install_Files directory on the Internal Disc but nothing is showing in the list when I go to Add/Remove programs and click Install Packages. The 2 games are card games downloaded from http://only.mawhrin.net/~geometer/zaurus/zsolitaire.html (http://only.mawhrin.net/~geometer/zaurus/zsolitaire.html).

What am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Tomas

You need to make sure they all have a ipk file extension as some maybe zipped, the files can be located anywhere, they don't have to be in this folder.

You can also install any software by selecting the file from within the File Explorer.

Thank you for reply. Yes the files do have ipk extension and I see them in File Explorer with the icon of the Add/Remove program however they do not appear in the Install Packages list. When I select the ipk file in File Explorer and hit Enter it will open the Install Packages window but again nothing is showing there.

Any other ideas?

Thank you for your help
Tomas

There are 2 possibilities, you have corrupt ipk files or your add/remove program is corrupt.

If you can install any other software then your ipk games files are corrupt, suggest that you find somewhere else to download them from by seaching google/yahoo using the game name & ipk.

You were right on the money. I try install from command line and it gave some error about file structure. So I downloaded again (did it on my Zaurus this time) and everything works as it should.
Thank you very much for the help!!

I have come across the odd ipk that doesn't show up - it doesn't generally install properly either but you can try using the command line version...
Code: [Select]
ipkg-install whatever.ipkwhich might give you a few more hints.

More simply, you can get zsolitaire off the feed at http://www.zaurususergroup.org/feed/ (http://www.zaurususergroup.org/feed/)
