Title: X11 Server also working on 5500?
Post by: dhns on March 01, 2004, 11:07:52 am
Dear all,
is the X11 server of this ROM also working on a SL-5500?
And how does it compare to the old x11zaurus (version 0.8)?
And finally: how to get it?

I don\'t think so, but try Xqt which is very nice.

Next step is to get some applications compiled for it (sash\'s apps all use the ARM5 instruction set which [without someone writing an exception handler to deal with the added instructions] doesn\'t work on the 5500).

I have used x11zaurus which also works nicely - although no longer being developed.

If you have a 128mb SD card, check out pocketworkstation.  It takes up allot of your sd card space, but it is probably your best hope for a \'full featured\' X11 server on your zaurus.

http://mywebpages.comcast.net/clanwolfer/z...-tcl-HOWTO.html (http://mywebpages.comcast.net/clanwolfer/zaurus-debian-tcl-HOWTO.html)

That page says to use at least a 256mb CF card because it installs the big package and the tcl/tk scripting languages.  You can use a freshly ext2 formatted 128MB sd card with the minumium package and watch in fear as it uses all but 300kb of it

After installing you can free up about 60MB when you delete the tar file.  There is a script included to delete the uneeded docs and other junk.
