I use a plain OZ 3.5.4.1/GPE rom image on Akita. Not much hacks done yet - just some very basic packages installed.
I've found that, when loading UTF-8 encoded plaintext files on Akita into FBReader, there occurs a strange bug whereby some of the spaces between the words disappear. Muchlikethis. This doesn't occur when loading HTML or .fb2 files. I can provide screenshots if necessary.
Also, I am having probelms entering non-latin characters into rxvt-unicode. I have installed the necessary locale packages and then used localedef to compile en_GB.UTF-8 locale. Having also installed an appropriate monospace font (Andale Mono) I can display cyrillic text files in rxvt-unicode with 'more' and suchlike commands. But using a virtual keyboard with a russian layout, I don't seem to be able to type in cyrillic characters - nor at command prompt, nor in VIM. The same layout allows me to enter cyrillic characters in GPE applicatins like Contacts or Calendar without any problems. What gives?
