hi, all
has anyone met this problem before?
When I\'m using my SL5500, sometimes, the software would make the system crash, and then the email LED letter will be fired on. Then I can do nothing but hard reboot the system, do the initialization again, do the recovery.
Why Zaurus is so un-stable?

Does this happen when you try to reboot? The symptoms sound like the double reboot bug:

I also have a problem with my 5500 maybe it is related to this double reboot thing. each time i reboot, such as type reboot from console, it go through 12345 and ask my screen passcode. After I give the passcode, it go through 12345 and ask passcode again. It works normal after that.
I don\'t remember when it started doing this. Maybe after I installed the program zstyle to change the background image.
Anyone know what is going on?
Thanks!

Guest, this has nothing to do with the double reboot bug. When it goes through the \'Wait 1.. 2... 3.. 4.. 5..\' loop the second time, it means Qtopia has crashed. You are probably right about zstyle though. Does it happen every time? I seem to remember when I installed that on my 5500 that Qtopia took a couple of attempts to actually start properly. Try uninstalling it and reboot to see if it the cause.
I think many times a reboot isn\'t necessary though. When you have a problem with a Qtopia app, you can usually solve it just by terminating Qtopia and letting it restart. This isn\'t a M$ OS, where a reboot often is the cure and probably best just to be sure . The underlying OS of the Zaurus is very stable, it\'s just Qtopia that tends to be a bit ropey at times.
Sharp have never admitted to the double reboot bug despite many many people experiencing it and reporting it to Sharp. I have a feeling it is a 5500 hardware bug, which is why Sharp hasn\'t done anything about it (No other Zaurus models suffer from it).

I met with the same problem as you described.
Perform a full reset (and lose data)
If flicking the battery cover switch on the back from \'Normal Operation\' to \'Replace Battery\' and back again does not turn it off then you will have to do a full reset, which means you will lose all your data on internal memory.
To do a full reset, open the battery compartment by flicking the cover swtich to \'Replace Battery\' and with your stylus press the sunken button at the bottom of the compartment.

Thanks! I will try to uninstall that and see.
