Hi,
Would greatly appreciate some help...
Just got my new C860.
Trying to sync it with my Fujitsu 5020D laptop with WinXP Pro and MS Outlook.
Have installed the Zaurus software on my laptop using the SL-5600 download file from Sharp.
Everything seems to be setup OK....
-Set prefs in Sync Options
-Checked PC Link settings on Z and they match those on PC in Zaurus
Manager (V3.1)
Here\'s the settings:
PC Link Setting
USB IP: 192.168.129.201
Connection: USB - I/O (default)
When I try to sync, I get the following error message on my laptop:
\"Intellisync for Zaurus:
An error occurred while trying to connect to the Zaurus. Please remove the Zaurus from the cradle or serial cable and reconnect. Wait approximately 30 seconds before initializing the synchronization.
Please verify the PC Link application settings on the Zaurus match the Zaurus Manager on the PC.\"
Any suggestions???
Wonder if it\'s related to USB Driver?
Tried disconnect and reconnect several times but no go...
Thanks!
Mark

Still hope someone can advise...
But in the meantime...
Have a strong suspicion this has something to do with USB Network Driver install...maybe wrong but since this seems to be a communication error situation...
Could someone advise as to what USB Driver components are installed on their PC?
Thanks!
Mark

Hi Mark,
could you please post detailed info on the Sharp SL-5600 software you use for syncing? I also have a C860 and I\'m just about to start consideirng syncing. On which site is the sharp software downloadable? Is there something to syn with Lotus Notes?
Thanks,
Ashu

Ashu,
Here\'s the page:
http://www.sharpusa.com/zaurus/dev/0,2354,,00.html (http://www.sharpusa.com/zaurus/dev/0,2354,,00.html)
There\'s several files to choose from...
Here\'s the one I used:
560v132u.zip File: Download (.zip 21M)
This zip file contains the PC application and Zaurus OS update files to update the Zaurus OS.
As for Lotus Notes. I think there\'s an app that will sync with it....
Check on the various Zaurus software sites such as:
http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/ (http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/)
If you find one, post it here as I use Lotus Notes at work and would be useful for me too.

Thanks Mark. I visited the site but couldn\'t find the exact zip file you mentioned. There are too many files to download from. Could you please forward the the exact URL?
Also, I saw some downloadables on the aforementioned site that mentioned Notes syncing. Have you tried them?
Thanks always,

Here\'s the link for that page:
http://www.myzaurus.com/ROMupdate6.asp (http://www.myzaurus.com/ROMupdate6.asp)
Scroll down to the bottom and you will see that it\'s the first one listed (of three) under the heading \'Downloads\'.
As for Notes, haven\'t tried it...actually have other issues with trying to sync my Z at work...need to get new computer w/new OS before I\'ll be able to try syncing at work....

I downloaded the latest 5600 software, but when prompted to continue with the device driver I clicked cancel (twice). I then connected my c860 allowing XP to prompt for drivers and selected the path to the previously extract c860 USB drivers. The link is somewhere on this site.
Sync with Outlook works fine with USB I/O, but UBS IP is not working for me.
For Lotus notes I am using XTNDConnectPC. XT..PC is the swiss-army-knife of syncing. You can sync from just about any popular source to another. I only need my Notes calendar and use XT..PC to sync that with Outlook, then sync with the Z software.
Good luck.

Folks,
Okay I\'ve doownloaded the 560v132u.zip syncin software from the Sharp site, but before I start any installation I wish to be sure about the procedure.
What I intend to do is to have a PC application that allows me sync with my PC desktop. From what I gathered on the Sharp website, the 560v132u.zip file will also update the C860 ROM. Do I necessarily have to do a ROM update.
Also, is the base PC syncin application contained in the zip file? Which files in the zip archive do I have to install if I am just interested in syncin with the PC and do not want to do a ROM update? By the way, will this software run on a Cacko Qtopia ROM?
I\'ll be grateful if you guys could list the precise steps that will help me from getting into any pitfalls.
Thanks in anticipation,
Ashu

If it helps, installing the upgrade *didn\'t* help me resolve the problem on my 5600, trying to sync with W2K or MinME, Palm or Outlook, USB or Advanced USB, it apparently made no difference at all........

Mark, I\'m re-visiting the syncin issue we discussed last month and will greatly appreciate your help and those other folks who have managed to sync the Z with Notes.
I can sync with Outlook but will also like to sync with some of the files on my PC desktop. The syncing software in the Z CD is largely in jap and hence I couldn\'t actually get much benefit out of it. What additional features does the sharp syncing software has? What do I have to observe when installing it. Does it affect the Zaurus ROM installation in any way?
Thanks in anticipation,
Ashu

Hi Ashu,
First, don\'t use the Sharp sync software on the CD since it\'s in Japanese. About the only thing on the CD of use is the Terminal app, although you can use some of the other versions floating around...
So download the QTopia ROM file for either the 5500 or the 5600 as these are in English.
Then ONLY install the desktop PC portion of the software. This will give you English versions of the Sync, BackupRestore, and File Transfer apps.
Do not install the Network Driver (?) from this file. Search your Sharp Zaurus CD-ROM and install the Network Driver file(s?) from there...
HTH,

Mark, I\'m re-visiting the syncin issue we discussed last month and will greatly appreciate your help and those other folks who have managed to sync the Z with Notes.
I put this in a previous post. Again, I use XTNDConnectPC to sync Lotus Notes with Outlook, then use the standard Zaurus Outlook Intellisync to Z sync. I think this is a good method since most portable devices (PDA, mobile phones, etc...) only sync with Outlook. It is a bit of work however. I have to sync Notes with Outlook, then sync Outlook with Z and T610, when I return to my desk I reverse the process to get all Z changes in to Outlook and Notes. XTNDPC does put up a tray icon, so it is just a double-click.
HINT: If you use XTNDPC for more than organizer to organizer syncing (e.g. T610 mobile phone), you need to install twice. First install selecting only the different organizers you want to sync with. Then reinstall (do not uninstall) selecting the hardware (PDA\'s phone) you want to sync with.

Thanks guys. I downloaded the relevant files from the sharp web page and can now use the sync software in english. Quite a relief not to be confronted with jap characters every time you try to sync.
However, I still haven\'t had a solution to sync with Notes. There is a product called NotesSync which unfortunately doesn\'t work with the Zaurus C7xx series. I\'ve not tried XTNDPC because I couln\'t find a Demo and didn\'t want to pay $55.00 for something I\'m not sure will work.
Cheers,
Ashu
