Hi everyone. I\'ve searched the forum for awhile trying to find the answer but to no avail so I broke down and registered. I\'m pretty new to the linux environment and figure thats why I\'m having the trouble since I\'m not as familiar with it as I would like to be. I just purchased Sockets Low Power CF 802.11b WLAN card and I have no idea on how to get it working. I don\'t have a wireless network but I do at school which is why I got the card. I ran the file socketspecdriver_0.3.4-2_arm.ipk but none of the lights light up. Since I dont have my own network I can\'t really verify if it works or not. Is the only thing i need to do is run that file I downloaded and should it work when I take it down to school? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks.

Hello,
Alright first thing is if when you plug in the CF wifi card you notice the light coming on it means that the kernel detects your card.
So you will need to get the module for it. Look at http://www.socketcom.com/ZaurusSharp.asp (http://www.socketcom.com/ZaurusSharp.asp) for help. Its nice that socket has a page for the zaurus kind of gave me a good feeling.
Now what ROM are you using? Let me know and I can offer more help.
Good luck

Hi cranJam,
I also own that card, and might be able to help, given you ovide the following information to debug your issue:
zaurus model
rom version
content of /var/log/messages when you insert the card into the slot
when you insert the card, does that littel squared cf icon appear on the taskbar ?

Hey everyone, thanks for the responses. I have the Zaurus 5500 and its using the 2.38 sharp ROM and when i plug in teh card the lights dont light up and nothing appears in the taskbar.

First thing I would do is upgrade your ROM this might fix the problem a bit easier and it would probably be nice to have the newer sharp ROM Also try to load this http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=197 (http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=197)
(This is Jorvic I\'m just too lazy to log in)

Hi cranJam,
as in some other post it happenned to another person, please verify the contents of the file /etc/pcmcia/spectrum.conf, which should look like the following (note the commented out line, which is the offending one):
device \"spectrum_cs\"
# class \"network\" module \"hermes\", \"orinoco\", \"spectrum_cs\"
class \"spectrum\" module \"hermes\", \"orinoco\", \"spectrum_cs\"
card \"LA4100 Spectrum24 CF WLAN Card\"
manfid 0x026c, 0x0001
bind \"spectrum_cs\"
card \"Socket Communications CF+ LP WLAN Card\"
manfid 0x0104, 0x0001
bind \"spectrum_cs\"
