Title: Collie Machine As An Mpd 'remote'
Post by: simbaB on September 30, 2006, 09:48:31 am
We have a MythTV box hooked up to our stereo in our basement, and one of the things it has on it is the Music Player Daemon (MPD). Currently, to control the music playing, you have to fire up a desktop or laptop computer. What I would like to do is make this a bit less cumbersome and use my old collie machine with a Wifi card as an MPD "remote". To do this, I would like to put the latest kernel on it (2.6) and an Opie or GPE image (whichever has a better MPD client, or web browser for a PHP-based client). I see that the 2.6 kernel is finally available for collie, but it doesn't seem to be available with an associated initrd image--the only 2.6 initrd is a bootstrap image and the Opie/GPE images available from Hentges' web site appear to require the old "crapix" kernels. Does anyone have a suggestion as to an ideal configuration for this kind of setup? Thanks in advance.

You could always use the bootstrap image and manually install what you need and run the ncmpc client for MPD. That'd work quite nicely possibly.
