Will we have full access to all the PS3 hardware on PS3 Linux on launch or ever is the big question here of course. I'd imagine that at least its graphics driver (Nvidia?) will be a dreaded binary blob. I read an interview today with the Yellow Dog Linux guy and he made it sound as if it really is a fully fledged computing platform- and why not? They've been promising some impressive figures. I wonder how well it will run mencoder, ffmpeg, blender and cinelerra???
YDL are using e17 as the default wm. I've been experimenting with elive recently and I really like it a lot. Flash AND fast. Still a fair few bugs mind but the elive dev (0.5.1) build is old. Can't wait for the next release!
Is the PS3 the 'new Amiga' or a Hyper-Beta?

Is that the console that is equipped with a Blu-Ray drive?
EDIT: opps, that is the XBox-360 that is supposed to come with a HD-DVD drive.

Look at the [a href=\"http://www.ps3land.com/ps3specs.php]specs.[/url].
Looking forward to seeing emulator softwares for this box.

what was the ps2 linux like?

Crap apparently. 32MB RAM, no access to the DVD drive (this was used to boot Linux I think), you had to buy an expensive add-on kit and you had to have a very specific type of monitor (Sync-On-Green). However I must point out that I never used PS2 Linux, but I've never heard anything good about it.

personally i like the idea of running linux on the xbox hardware as its a 3 normal cpu beast, under linux the cell just looks like 1 of the xbox 360's cpus with a whole lot of coprecessors that need to be specifiaclly programed for (ie its up to the programs not the os to use the cores, you dont write for the cores you dont get the extra cpus)
in some ways i hope sony gets burned on this one, super computers are number crunches not somthing that can make vista run any faster
althogh if you want to do a terminal server farm nothing beats a SSI system running on a super comuputer (makes 200 PCs look like 1 200 CPU machine)
