Also, being in Alaska doesn't help.  I spent three years at Eielson AFB. So, I know what's up.

So, how do I go about setting up the zaurus to use the blackberry for internet? And, would anyone know what kind of speed I'm looking at. I know the 8700g (t-mobile) is using EDGE technology. But, it's still slower than 3G.

Just out of interest, why would you want to do that (other than out of curiosity to see how it could be done)?? You can do your e-mail, web surfing, Google maps, RSS reader, etc. flawlessly right on the 8700g.... OK, so the Z's screen is bigger, but all of these work really well on the 8700g. Since I got my BB I no longer use Opera, QuackNews, Fetchmail/Procmail/Msmtp, Corsair, etc. on my Z, and have deleted these programs....

Which rom are you using?  Generally you will need the bluez packages, but I didn't have to fiddle with that because I had the cacko rom.

I would think edge will be the bottleneck and not bluetooth.  On a 3g I get about 270kbps using bluetooth whereas a laptop usb connection to the phone gets me in the high 500kbps.

As far as I know, the blueT in the blackberry devices only acept pairing to handsets.
You can use a BB as a modem as long as you use the USB connection; this has to do with the BB been business centric with high security built in features.

Have you tried using it with any other computer as blue tooth data modem?

Regards.

well here is the issue with using usb modem with blackberry with a Z... plug in  USB and the bb automaticly says "Lets start charging" in turn killing your Z's battery... I've used neither so I dont know if either work...

I tried as a test to test my BB and my BT enabled Nokia phone and just couldn't get my phone to connect with the BB. Whenever I set the BB to discoverable, it says, "Administrator has disable the Discoverable feature". What a dumb machine. Of course its a BB from my office from that hated tricking ISP Verizon. Verizon is famous for disabling all power features of all powerful devices so you have to pay up for the basic features out of your nose.

So my Zaurus - BB - Internet pathway has been totally stunted.

Wait... is your company using a BES? if so... it was prolly disabled in the "IT Policy"...  Maybe if you rub shoulders with BES admin maybe they will be kind enough to remove you from that policy group...

if you make sure your BB is absolutely fully charged, then maybe it won't kill the Z... or, use a powered USB hub at least for initial testing?
