Title: Howto Build A 5500 Beta1 Kernel Using Pdax86?
Post by: miskinis on November 02, 2006, 04:24:23 am
Hi Folks,

I tried this a few months ago, and gave up.  I would very much like to
persue this effort again from scratch.  In an effort to get off on the right
track this time, I'd like to discuss this, and hopefully end up with enough
information to be able to build it myself, and also write up a detailed HOWTO.

I read the http://mail.pdaxrom.org/contrib/docs/kerne...mpile-3100.html (http://mail.pdaxrom.org/contrib/docs/kernel-compile-3100.html) guide,
but the links to the source don't work, and I also need the 5500 sources.

I assume the correct pdaX86 ISO to boot is the one under the
http://mail.pdaxrom.org/download/1.1.0beta1/ (http://mail.pdaxrom.org/download/1.1.0beta1/) directory ?

And, I'm confused as to why that kernel compile guide mentions that the
pdaX86 system is configured with all the build tools, but then mentions that
he installed pdaXrom builder and cross-compile tools.

I've had some problems booting some of the pdaX86 ISO files on my laptop.
I'm going to burn the one from the beta1 location above shortly, and see if it
will boot as a starting point.

Well, my laptop boots that version of pdaX86, but I only have 256MB of RAM,
and it might be very painful to build the kernel, but I'm willing to try if I can
gather the necessary components.   I posting this from pdaX86 and the Mozilla,
and I hardly have any free RAM left:

I found what looks like the original 5500 kernel source code from sharp on the
mirror page mentioned in the page at https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Compiling_the_Kernel (https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Compiling_the_Kernel)

I'm not sure yet if this is the correct source to use for pdaXrom, but I figured I'd
mention it.  Unfortunately I do not read Japanese, and therefore I'm lost right away
when visiting Sharp's site in Japan.

The URL I used for the kernel source is:
https://www.oesf.org/howto/downloads/linux-...0020910.tar.bz2 (https://www.oesf.org/howto/downloads/linux-sl5500-20020910.tar.bz2)

Can anyone confirm this is the correct source to start with (for pdaXrom)?

I've been away from the Zs for quite a while.  I think I was trying
to get a 5500 pdaXrom system to build, such that I could try to fix
some things.  I think I was frustrated at the bug that caused the
5500 to suspend when the right arrow was held down for a couple seconds.
I saw a patch from OZ that corrected this, and that was the first thing
I was trying to accomplish.  I know there were a few other things, but
it was so long ago I can't remember.

no way !! i thought it was a problem with my z's slide that was causing it to suspend...

do you know if this (build pdaxrom) is what you need to do to add new modules into the kernel, such as for bestcrypt ??
