Before people complain, yes, I do know that there is a section for this.
Why don't we make a thread for people to post stuff they want compiled, kind of a reverse "New Packages Announced" thread? It might make people who wouldn't normally ask for apps to not have to start a new thread asking about it and feel more comfortable asking. It may also broaden the range of apps that are available for pdaXrom.
Any thoughts, criticism, etc.?
-
I think it's a great idea!
-
There are some priority things such as:
-bluetooth manager and explorer
-j2me
-better wifi manager
Then things as palm emulator, ecc.
-
Capn_Fish, it sounds like you're volunteering to do some compiling - good on you!

I am, more or less. I like compiling stuff, but I really don't know what people want. I think that if we make a thread for people to post wants in, it will give people like me ideas on what to compile. Also, it will provide a way to make popular or useful apps available for pdaXrom.
-
Could you compile a working IMage BUilder binary that will run in the pdaX86 enviroment? I get erros from Qmake when I try to compile, but I never have done it before. see this thread (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=20563)
the download for the Image BUilder source can be found here : iMAGE buILDER 0.0.2 (http://mail.pdaxrom.org/download/rc12/ImageBuilder/) and instructions from the original release are Here: https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=16351 (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=16351)
I found this Qtopia (http://doc.trolltech.com/qtopia2.2/html/running-qtopia.html) manual ... and have tried some help on IRC ... but I can't make it happy. . . If you could compile this for x86 that would be Astounding!
-
Unfortuately, I have never compiled for pdaX86. The only disc I tried wouldn't boot, and I never tried another one. I could try for a Zaurus app, if you would like.

Gnome-Python.
-
Gnome-Python.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=145504\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I'll try once my SL-C3100 gets here. As far as I know, I need to compile the python development package, and it's too big to install in my limited flash.
-
The problem I encountered with when compiling gnome-python (and other gnome-xyz or xyz-gnome) is that the current gnome libraries for pdaX are very very old.
So what needs to be (re)compiled first is a whole series of new gnome stuff.
-
Is that a hint?
Anyway, I'm thinking of not compiling libraries until I get my new Z as they seem to be large to install.
By the way, I was thinking that this would be a general place for people to ask for apps, not just a place to ask me for stuff. I was thinking that people, like me, who want to help out by compiling stuff could get ideas here.
In short, if you want to compile something listed here, go ahead. The sooner stuff gets compiled the better!

Hi,
As I`ve written earlier (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=73&t=1389&hl=&view=findpost&p=123093)) I really miss enigmail for thunderbird.
Source: http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ (http://enigmail.mozdev.org/)
I`ve compiled some programs for pdaXrom, but Mozilla packages are hard to compile with cross compiler. So I`m really glad for any help.
Thanks,
Tamas

I've read that KPatience in KDE has Spider bundled in. And a version is part of the Debian distribution. Thanks!
-
No, there IS a patch IPK in the official feeds.
-
I thought you meant an ipk OF the patch I was trying to apply! I should be able to figure this out now. I might delay it, though, as my libs are so screwed up from testing my lib packages...

It would be very useful to have a downloader that supports segmented downloads (aka multi threaded dl's). I know of 2 command line apps: Aria2 and Prozilla.
Either of these would be very nice if someone could compile them.

Hey that would be nice!
-
I'm hoping to get a ton of compiling done this weekend, as I shouldn't have any work to do.
-
I am using xubuntu on the desktop but not xfce on the Z, I do really like thunar so I would like to use PCmanFM on the Z(very similar to thunar)
Source code and buiding instructions are here:
http://pcmanfm.sourceforge.net/build.html (http://pcmanfm.sourceforge.net/build.html)
Thank you very much.
-
Thunar is already in Chero's feed: http://www.pdaxrom.org/contrib/Chero/ (http://www.pdaxrom.org/contrib/Chero/)
But now I would like to ask someone to complie:
abuse-sdl: http://www.labyrinth.net.au/~trandor/abuse/ (http://www.labyrinth.net.au/~trandor/abuse/)
I got it compiled but ended up with unknown segmentation fault.
XEvil: http://www.xevil.com/ (http://www.xevil.com/)
Relevant architecture specification (armv5tel) is missing in config.mk in the source.
Thanks!
-
Thunar is already in Chero's feed: http://www.pdaxrom.org/contrib/Chero/ (http://www.pdaxrom.org/contrib/Chero/)
Thanks for the pointer however I knew that already, I tried thunar combined with matchbox+openbox but it's too much related with xfce libraries (libexo, libxfce4util) and even then, if you want to assign preferred applications it complains with:
Failed to execute child process "update-desktop-database" (No such File or directory)
That's why I asked for PCManFM which is close without the libraries overhead.
Thanks
-
I'm having trouble patching SDL_Pango. If somebody could do that and post the patched source, I should have no trouble with compiling FB2.

However, for pdaXrom there is PWM/PI from the KDEPIM/PI 2.2.7 suite. It is quite convenient and problaby safe, too. Not quite as versatile as keepassx as it seems.

Yeah, there are a couple of good PW managers for pdaXrom, that is true, but for those of us who are attached to KeePass on our desktops, we would like to be able to see our passwords on the Z.
That said, it seems to use QT 4, which I'm not sure works on pdaXrom, or the Z in general for that matter.

In case it cannot be compiled on the Zaurus:
PWM/PI is also available for desktop, AFAIK.
Or at least the original PasswordManager from which PWM/PI is a derivate. They should be file-compatible.
keepassx can import PWM files. maybe it can also export them?

Roadnav (http://roadnav.sourceforge.net/) is a very interesting Navigationsystem with OpenStreetMap (http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Main_Page) support for Navigation.
There are binaries for several OS and Distributions Like Linux (binaries and source), MacOS and Windows!
I tried the Windows version and it works very good. I also tried to compile the roadnav, but have several problems with the compiling itself (cannot create executables ... [install on pcre helps me not!]).
Can anybody help me with this compiling problem or compile roadnav?
greetings from Germany
Andreas

i think obconf (openbox config tool) would be a handy utility to have so you can change the theme, colour, etc.. much easier rather than hacking the rc.xml file

This one should be a piece of cake (hopefully), but capn_fish, or someone else... can you compile AsmPlan?
Page: http://members.save-net.com/jko%40save-net...asm/asmplan.htm (http://members.save-net.com/jko%40save-net.com/asm/asmplan.htm)
Source: http://members.save-net.com/jko%40save-net...sm/download.htm (http://members.save-net.com/jko%40save-net.com/asm/download.htm)
Thanks!
I'm looking for console based apps so I don't have to start up X-Windows as often.
Some other apps on the site look neat too:
AsmFile (http://members.save-net.com/jko%40save-net.com/asm/managers.htm)
AsmEdit and AsmNano (http://members.save-net.com/jko%40save-net.com/asm/editors.htm)
AsmMenu (http://members.save-net.com/jko%40save-net.com/asm/asmmenu.htm)
It says that to compile the following are needed:
bash - or possibly sh needed by makefile
sed - stream editor (almost always available)
make - GNU make needed for install, compile
install - needed to copy programs
nasm - (optional), needed by compile
asmpub - (optional) used by AsmLib "make doc" option
-
This app looks pretty usefull too:
Calcurse (http://culot.org/calcurse/index.html)
Source:
http://culot.org/cgi-bin/get.cgi?calcurse-1.6.tar.gz (http://culot.org/cgi-bin/get.cgi?calcurse-1.6.tar.gz)
Requirements are ncurses library and gettext library:
http://culot.org/calcurse/manual.html#install_requirements (http://culot.org/calcurse/manual.html#install_requirements)
-
I'll try to get most of this done soon, but I have some work to do first. Hopefully I'll have something done compiling-wise in a few days.

Thanks man, but no hurry and no worry.
I should just get off my lazy butt and and set up a compile environment.
-
Well, RoadNav and Calcurse got compiled (not by me, though), and are in the New Packages thread.
-
Just out of curiosity. Is it possible to get podzilla compiled and running on pdaxrom?
it would be a nice Gui to play mp3s and view calendar entries.

I don't think so. I'm looking in the 'INSTALL' file that was with the source code. DL it and see what I mean.

I didn't bother trying to compile it after I saw the binary. I just looked at the install file and saw what it said.

i compiled podzilla myselft. works quite nicely. (just gotta figure out how to reconfigure the keys)
i never did this before so if someone could test the packages.
first mpd that handles the actual mp3 playback
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
ncmpc command line client to test mpd with
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
and finally the podzilla package
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
you need to create a ~/.mpdconf config for mpd
here is mine
# see the mpd(1) manpage for all config options
# This is the default configfeel free to edit this file
# required
playlist_directory "/home/root/mpd/playlist"
music_directory "/mnt/cf/mp3"
port "6600"
log_file "/home/root/mpd/mpd.log"
error_file "/home/root/mpd/mpd.err"
# optional, but HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
db_file "/home/root/mpd/mpddb"
# optional, but recommended
state_file "/home/root/mpd/state"

It would be great if somebody can compile ewe for me (for more info why, look at this thread (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=22786))
Short Description of ewe:
Ewe is a programming system that allows you to write applications, using Java, which run exactly the same on desktop systems, on mobile systems, and even in a Web browser as an Applet.
- The Linux Sources (http://www.ewesoft.com/Downloads/Ewe149-Source-Linux.zip)
- The Java Sources (http://www.ewesoft.com/Downloads/Ewe149-Source-Java.zip)
The Description on www.ewesoft.com Page about the sources: "The Win32 and Linux build zips contain an HTML document that explains how to build the VM. The Java version simply requires any Java IDE or compiler to build."
I don't know which version is better or simpler to compile for pdaxrom, but it would be great if somebody compile it.
greets
Andi

@Capn_Fish: Thanks very much for trying to compile this.
great support here

Compiling didn't seem to work, so I'm trying the precompiled Zaurus version. I'm missing libqte, though, and I can't find it for download anywhere. Does anybody know where I can get the Cacko version? As far as I can tell, it's not in any feeds.
-
I found this in my cacko setup.
/usr/QtPalmtop.rom/lib/libqte.so.2.3.2
It's inside the ROM
It's symlinked to several places.
Here's how it looks on my C3100 with cacko.
/usr/QtPalmtop.rom/lib
libqte.so (symlink)
libqte.so.2 (symlink)
libqte.so.2.3 (symlink)
libqte.so.2.3.2 (actual file)
/home/QtPalmtop/lib
libqte.so (symlink)
libqte.so.2 (symlink)
libqte.so.2.3 (symlink)
libqte.so.2.3.2 (symlink)
I zipped it up, it's 4mb unpacked

Thanks! That works, but now I need libqpe. I don't suppose you could post this as well?

here it is, I'll post symlink details in a minute.
Symlink structures are very similar to above libqte
/usr/QtPalmtop.rom/lib
libqpe.so (symlink)
libqpe.so.1 (symlink)
libqpe.so.1.5 (symlink)
libqpe.so.1.5.0 (actual file)

I don't think there's a need for that. I just placed the last one in /usr/lib and it worked.
-
Sorry, but it looks like the precompiled Ewe won't work. I get errors about no QT embedded server running.
I'll try getting Java of some sort then try compiling again.
@Jon_J: Thanks for posting the libs, and quickly!

Would love to see Firefox 2.0.x, preferably statically compiled without all the extra plugins so it is lean and clean and loads faster...

What is the issue here? I have libIDL installed, I compiled it myself, so all of the development stuff should be there.
Any help would be much appreciated.
P.S. I will continue working on Ewe once I get bored/give up on Firefox.
-
does your libIDL.so exist? the compiler looks for .so, not .so.x.x
PS: I thought building firefox on the Z would be futile since it doesnt have enough RAM. The readme for firefox says that you need at least 512MB RAM to build firefox and more if you want to build it statically...
but good luck anyway!

libIDL.so exists as a symlink. Is there anything else that I could do, try, or look at that could help?
It seems to compile fine without 512MB of RAM, but I guess I'll find out.
Thanks for your response!

Trying to compile something for the first time with pdaXrom. After reading a lot of different websites about compiling for pdaXrom I still could not get KHDrecord working for my C1k running pdaXii13.
I tried
make clean
make
I also tried
qmake -project
qmake
make
however no avail. Keep in mind I'm a newb however having fun .
Can someone try compiling it. It seems like it would be a cool app for recording lectures.

I want to know if someone else has any luck....

you will need to fix the makefile manually since there is no configure or project file supplied with the package. you also need to compile the dependent library artsc before you can build it

5 things that need compiling
firefox 2
a new minimo
nvu (maybe it would work ok)
some kind of updated gplflashplayer (i think...the one I have now crashes a lot)
sun java 1.5 with plugin.
...of course firefox 1.5/ jre 1.4 work ok? and the gplflash thing must be fixable...Ive had it working before. and nvu might be too heavy for a Z.
just thought I'd mention 'em

I've been trying to compile firefox, but it's not working. I'll see about the other ones, but my Z is out of order, and it may be a few days.
-
I tried firefox too. no luck
I've been hoping for a minio that lives up to its concept. It may not be written yet.
Good luck when you get set up again
-
Maybe compiling firefox onboard instead of cross-compiling? I have to setup 1gb swapspace and leave it compiling few days ... might work but XFCE first ...

I do all of my compiling onboard. If you want to build it, go ahead. It certainally would be nice to have it optimized, though. Same for XFCE. I can't wait to try the new version!
Keep compiling!

[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=152104\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
you will need to fix the makefile manually since there is no configure or project file supplied with the package. you also need to compile the dependent library artsc before you can build it
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=152110\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Thanks for the guidance . Now I have a little more direction.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=152119\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Here's the fixed up sources that actually compile and build...
I've already compiled and packaged it up (see the new packages anouncement thread), however, if you want to try compiling yourself, here is the gzipped tarball of the sources. Check the differences between the original makefile and my fixed version if you want to learn more of the insides of configuring and compiling. usually, as i mentioned before, the developers supply a .pro file or a configure script which will create the proper makefile for you....

It would be great if someone could compile GTK+ latest version.
This requires new glib, cairo, pango etc. so it is a major task.

Hello again,
is there any Chance that somebody could help me with the little javafiles from ewe software (ewesoft.com)
Original posting is here (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=21898&st=75#)
A user named "ofels" write here (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=22786) that he uses the cachewolf program, based on ewe, with qt-libraries. I saw some of them in pdaxrom threads. Is there (over the qt-libraries) a chance to run cachewolf, or is it impossible?
Thanks for the very good pdaxrom OS and the great support in this forum
greets from germany

Once I can get the install files for pdaXrom (pdaxrom.org is down ), I'll get it set up again and see what I can do (compiling Ewe/CacheWolf). I didn't look at hacking the makefile before, but I'll take a look. I'll need a makefile to compare to, though, so I guess I'll have to try configuring some other app first (latest Stratagus ), and probably compile it (with optimization). That shouldn't take too long, but I'll probably fiddle with my setup for a while before getting to any compiling.
By the way, does anybody know if compiling Ewe requires Java? I know I saw a package of it (Java) somewhere, but I don't know where. If it is necessary, could somebody post a link?
Thanks!

you will need java to build the ewe.ewe file and also the ewe.jar file, however, for compiling the binaries for ewe itself, java is not required. only problem is that ewe uses such an obscure way to compile things.... and the documentation lies, it says build instructions are included but it is only try for the windows source file, but not the linux source files...

Thanks for getting this one compiled Meanie. The interface isn't ideal, but the recording quality for .wav files is great. Mp3 and Ogg don't seem to work as well, but with a 4GB card, that's still over 6 hours of recording time available.
Now I need to get a decent mini-mike!

What do you think for newers x.org (prev xfree) ? I would like to have xkb extension, also few other settings like this (for example middle button scroll). However, it might be kernel-module dependent? If so, compiling would be hard ... also maybe the touchscreen will not work correctly?
Anyone who knows?

Any ideas?

I need it compiled for pdaXii13 5.2. Thanks for any assistance.

Beta3 has a differnet kernel version, but except for ipks like the SD driver which are especially written for Beta3, the Beta1 and 2 ROM/Distro's should be able to use many of meanie's rebuilds. Do a NAND backup before trying a bunch of them (just to be safe).

Also, it has been discussed elsewhere, but I think it would be helpful for many who are trying to print to HP printers that have HPLIP compiled. It can be found at:

those are qte (qtopia) apps and won't compile on pdaXrom since pdaXrom uses X11, and even though QT3 is available in pdaXrom, it is not compatible with qte 1.1.x which is what SharpROM/Cacko is using...
-
I'm going off topic.
If QT3 apps run in pdaxrom, how does one know if an app is QT3? and if it will run in pdaxrom?
And where do you find such apps?
Also, I noticed the QT Configuration in pdaxii13-akita. Is this used to configure QT3 apps?
So in other words, absolutely none of the applications for Sharp/Cacko will run in pdaxrom, what QT3 apps work in pdaxrom and are they any better than their Sharp/Cacko counterparts.
Last question, what is the point of running QT3 apps on pdaxrom? Are these apps better than a pdaxrom counterpart?
Was that too many questions.

There is a BIG difference between QT and QT/E. Sharp/Cacko/OPIE are all based on some version of QT/E, Sharp/Cacko is based on the most ancient one of course, something 1.6.x whereas OPIE is based on 2.x.x
QT on the other hand is completely different. KDE3 is partially build upon QT3. khdrecord which I compiled for example is a QT3 app, as well as the Package Manager in pdaXrom and JustReader, TuxCards, etc...
and yes, QT config is used to configure QT apps
Sharp/Cacko apps are QT/E apps, they will not run in pdaXrom for many other reasons as well...
apps need to use some library to draw their windows, widgets, etc.. GTK2 (GTK+) is one commonly used set of library, but there are many more like GPE, QT, WX, TK, etc.....
Using just one set has its advantages, the look and feel is common across all applications and there is less memory requirements since they all load and share the same libraries which is what OZ/GPE is doing, ie they only use GPE libraries and thus some apps that are based on other libraries are not available...
pdaXrom on the other hand has support for many different libraries and thus sometimes the load speed of the applications suffers from this because the Z has to switch between these libraries. Most apps in pdaXrom are GTK+ based, although some are QT based and some are WX based. You can even use GPE apps in pdaXrom.
As mentioned before, having all these different libs available also has its disadvantages, besides slightly slower load speed when switching between those kinds of apps, there is also the look and feel issue. for example, look and feel for QT and GTK2 apps are configured independantly. The good thing of course, there is more apps available, more choice, more options, ....but this is not for everyone. some people love to be limited or have no choice at all because then they don't need to think or make decisions....

I'm having trouble compiling the blackbox wm and bbkeys. Any help would be appreciated.

bbkeys:

I can build bbkeys 0.8.6 without a lot of trouble, but that version only works with blackbox<0.7 and I can't build those versions easily. (hangs on indirect iconv references in Unicode.cc)
I know blackbox is in the feeds, but it's not much good to me without bbkeys. Forgive me if it's already available (under a different name/feed or something). If so could you just point it out?

Guess I never tried on rc121 or standard beta3 or beta1... so that's probably what I should work towards next. Thanks for your help. Do you think you could post your work thus far?

can someone try and compile qemu atleast to enable linux usermode x86 emulation. While i was using sharp rom i could use mathematica 5.2 for linux on my zaurus. I have an idea that we can use it to run opera for linux because it comes in a nice static package.
I tried it with a cross compiler but it seems difficult. Maybe you need to do on board compilation and I dont have the resources to do that (no hdd).
tovarish
-
My impression is that QEMU would be useless on the Z. Anybody care to back this up or disprove it? I'd be happy to compile it if there was a point.
-
it is sometimes useful to run software which is only released on i386 linux (skype, opera, mathematica, flashplayer etc.)
It is fine though i saw that the 0.6.1 version made for sharp roms also works in pdaxrom.
-
You've tried this?
-
yeah i tried it. I run mathematica with it.
I also tried compiling qemu but it id not such an easy job
-
In case anyone's interested, I found the sharp *.ipk version here: (Japanese site, version 0.6.1-1)

If anyone would care to give it a try, I'd really like to see SciLab compiled for pdax.
http://www.scilab.org/ (http://www.scilab.org/)
It needs fortran to build, so it's pretty difficult. The x86 cross-compiler
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distri...Zaurus-7x0-860/ (http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/pdaxrom/download/1.1.0r121/Zaurus-7x0-860/)
has fortran support, but it's a little sketchy, and it since SciLab is an interpreter, the make files generate a lot of code that needs to be run natively. AFAIK, there's no native support for fortran in pdaxrom yet.
I recompiled gcc3.4.5 for zaurus with fortran support, but I'm having trouble getting the resulting libgcc to work with everything else, and I don't really want to have to recompile *everything* just to get fortran working.
-

Was mathematica actually useful in this manner? i.e. comparable to maxima? I'd really like to be able to run MATLAB on Zaurus if at all possible. Did you try MATLAB in qemu?

I don't know enough about it to try it.
I thought it would be interesting to get Opera running in pdaxrom with qemu, as mentioned above in this thread. post #154
The same person said the sharp version runs in pdaxrom.
I extracted the only file in the sharp 0.6.1 IPK (qemu-i386 is the file)
It was located here: /opt/QtPalmtop/bin/
Since it's the only file in this IPK, maybe it will work in pdaxrom.
I had to zip it to attach it.
Also I thought it would be s good idea to get this hard-to-find file before the website with sharp related stuff disappears.
EDIT: for completeness sake, here's the sharp IPK

You're right they did say they got it to run in pdax... guess I gotta try this.

I would be eternally greatful if someone could compile RasMol (version 2.6 is located here: ftp://marlin.bio.umass.edu/pub/shareware/...sMol26b2.tar.gz (http://ftp://marlin.bio.umass.edu/pub/shareware/rasmol/distrib/RasMol26b2.tar.gz) - see this page: http://www.umass.edu/microbio/rasmol/getras.htm#rasmol (http://www.umass.edu/microbio/rasmol/getras.htm#rasmol) ). I gave it a shot, but it failed (I've never compild an app on the Zaurus before, although I have compiled some apps, including this one, on a Slackware PC).
It doesn't have a configure script, so it has to be done manually (see the INSTALL file), but I'm getting an error when I manually alter the Makefile and rasmol.h files.
I will continue to try again later if no one else does it. If someone else does compile it, however, I would love to know how you did it for future reference (and because I need practice).

your Makefile looks ok, the problem is in the rasmol.c file. it uses struct fd_set which is not necessary in linux since it is already using typedef.
so just replace all occurances of struct fd_set with just fd_set and off you go...

I need the driver for my USB ethernet dongle. There has been some discussion here before so I am not the only one that has one and needs the driver. It is a Davicom Semiconductor Inc DM9601 based device. The driver is available for download at:
http://www.davicom.com.tw/eng/download/Dri...driver_9601.htm (http://www.davicom.com.tw/eng/download/Driver/driver_9601.htm)
I need it compiled for pdaXii13 5.2. Thanks for any assistance.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=152638\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I am now running pdaXii13 5.3. My ethernet adapter is worthless without the driver. Without it I have to keep dragging my laptop around. Don't mean to be a pest, but would appreciate if someone could compile this driver. If you search the forum, you will notice that there are a couple of threads on this chipset, so obviously I am not the only one that needs it. Thanks.

I just got my C750 up and running again with Beta 3, so I'll try to compile it today. Sorry about forgetting, but I even got so far as downloading the code, then didn't have a 2.4.x machine to compile on.
-
It requires the kernel source, which I don't have. Does pdaXii13 use the same kernel as Beta 1? It may be kernel-specific, I don't know. If I had the kernel source, I could probably do it. Maybe Meanie could compile it? It's tiny, so it shouldn't take more than a minute or so.
-
I believe that pdaXii13 is built from pdaXrom beta 3. I don't know if that uses the same kernel/sources as beta 1. Yes, that was my thought that even compiling on the Z would likely only take a few minutes. i appreciate any assistance.

Could someone please port Corsair to pdaxrom? I use it every day on my Sharp Rom C3200. It's a podcast aggregator. It works in conjunction with either kino2 or Music Player in the Sharp Rom.
Here's a link to an information page on it:
Corsair at SourceForge (http://corsair.sourceforge.net/) and a thread on it in the forum:
Oesf Corsair thread (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=14661&hl=corsair)
I installed and used corsair_0.2.6_arm.ipk on Cacko and the plain Sharp Rom on a C1000 and C3200, respectively.
Thanks.

I got it to compile fully by changing the struct fd_set to just fd_set and defining the location of termio.h (I was getting an error here), and it just creates a single rasmol file as the program (ie no need for an IPK). When I run the program it all works in the command line like it is supposed to, but it doesn't open up the other window and instead reports "No suitable display detected!". This program is for protein visualization, and it is supposed to have a command line component (which is working), but is also supposed to pop up a GUI window to manipulate the protein, which isn't working.
I've tried compiling it for 8-bit and 32-bit displays but neither works. According to this page ( [a href=\"http://www.openrasmol.org/FAQ.html]http://www.openrasmol.org/FAQ.html[/url] ) this is a common problem, but compiling it for 8-bit doesn't work for me. Hi Tombraider, you can use Liferea from the new packages feed, it supports rss enclosures though I've never ued it with audio streams. I'd be interested to hear how you get on as I use it all the time for regular news feeds.

Oh, darn...well, is there anything for pdaxrom for audio podcasts? I'm really starting to like pdaxrom except for a few annoying quirks such as wonky time/date and on/off and battery goes dead just standing around while doing nothing, etc., etc. :-)

you can't compile the 2.4.20 kernel modules on the Z natively because you need gcc 2.95.x for that and the native gcc on the Z is 3.4.x

Well, it's pretty clear that I won't be getting much help (probably because RasMol will probably never be used by anyone else on these forums), but for the interested I've managed to compile it in the seemingly hidden 16-bit colour mode and made some progress (after much toil and modification) with no errors during compilation. But now, instead of getting the "No suitable display!" warning, I get a "Graphics Error: Unable to find suitable font!" error. In the source files there seem to be two fonts (Helvetica and "serf" -- ?). I found and installed a helvetica TTF font and, although AbiWord seems to recognize it, I had no luck running the program. I haven't yet tried installing the "serf" (serif?) font yet (that's next), but I doubt it'll work. I've also tried changing the font names to verdana (I'll try the more generic arial in case something weird happened), but it's not looking good.
I also found a newer version of RasMol which seems like it should work better (all struct fd_set's were already changed to simply fd_set and the 16-bit mode seemed more supported in the source files), but it gives me even more errors which I haven't tried to attack yet.
Just for the interested (if there are any).

Thanks, Fushnchupsh, I tried Bashpodder and while it does not begin to compare with the ease of use and features of Corsair, I'm able to download a couple of podcasts now and then using it so it helps in the usability of pdaxrom. With Corsair, the graphical interface is much easier to use with much more information available so I can keep track of, download and listen to about 20 podcasts. Corsair also shows the progress of the downloads with one of those graphical download bars. BUT Bashpodder will do in a pinch.

Hi, if someone would be willing to take a crack at compiling Zoom Interpreter (http://www.logicalshift.demon.co.uk/unix/zoom/) I think it would be neat on the Zaurus. I know frotz is available, and it works really well but doesn't run V6 (graphical) games. Also, Zoom looks like it has nice font rendering which may or may now work on the Zaurus.
I tried compiling on the Zaurus but kept running out of memory even with a swapfile setup. If someone has a huge swap or cross-compiles, it looks like a pretty staight forward build.
Thanks,
Andrew

The deed is done...I got it compiled. No idea if it works, but I'll package it up and post it ASAP.

QEMU failed to compile, I'll look into it later when I have time.

Just an update, if I haven't compiled or responded to your request, feel free to repost it.
I'm also thinking of compiling Stargus if there is interest. Is there? Maybe the new BoS Wars release, too.

I'm sorry, but I don't have the required tools to compile it. I tried earlier, but it needs the kernel sources, which I lack. I also don't know if pdaXii13 uses the same kernel as Beta 1, which is the 2.4 kernel I have available for compiling with. If Beta 1, or I could flash Beta 3 on my C750 and use that, uses the same kernel as pdaXii13 and somebody could give me or point me to the appropriate kernel source, I would be happy to try to compile it again.

pdaXii13 use the same kernel as beta1/beta3, however, on pdaXrom, the Cxx00 series use 2.4.20 kernel for both beta1 and beta3, whereas the Cxx0 series use 2.4.18 kernel in beta1 and there was an experimental beta3 with 2.4.20 kernel but it was removed....
try this one. its compiled for 2.4.20 kernel, but I had to use the 2.4.18 source to get it to compile, the 2.4.20 source failed to compile, weird...

I copied qemu-i386 from the Sharp 0.6.1 ipk to my /usr/bin/ dir and it seems to run in the console without errors shown in screencap.
I also downloaded opera 8.52 for Linux.
I downloaded the *.tgz version because I wasn't sure which Linux distro to choose on the dropdown list.
I downloaded the "oldest" version shown because I think the newer versions probably have more bloat and I just want to try and run this in pdaxii13.
But now I am stumped as to how to install opera.
Someone, (I think tovarish) mentioned that opera is a static package in post 152 on page 11
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showt...ndpost&p=154325 (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=21898&view=findpost&p=154325)
I'm not sure what a "static package" means.
I looked inside the opera.tgz (opera-8.52-20060201.6-shared-qt.i386-en.tar.gz) with winrar.
It has 11 directories and a whole lot of files and I'm not sure if unarchiving this on my pdaxii13 setup won't bugger things up.
Does one need to install opera on a desktop Linux PC, then copy it to the Zaurus to get it to run with qemu?
Has anyone tried this?
I think opera could be a good alternative to firefox and dillo. Plus, if it does work, there are versions available up to 9.10

Can libwmf be compiled for pdaxrom?
This is a library that enables *.wmf files to be opened/imported into inkscape
here are the links and the file
The correct filename is libwmf-0.2.8.4.tar.gz
The forum replaced the dash with an underscore.
Very nice page with full description and download link to source
http://wvware.sourceforge.net/libwmf.html (http://wvware.sourceforge.net/libwmf.html)
Source file is here. (I also attached it here in this post)

Here it is. Not tested, built on 2.6, should work on Cxx0 and Cxx00.
EDIT: Reposted a stripped version

Wow! Thanks Capn_Fish
inkscape just opened a drawing that contains 7,899 objects and 305,472 points!
It took about 20 minutes to completely open.
I just had to take a screencap because I'll probably not open this particular file again.
I'm just testing the capabilities of inkscape on a Zaurus.
This would have never come close to opening without swap, my HDD light ran constantly for the full 20 minutes.
As soon as I took the screencap, inkscape shut down.
Notice in the pic, my CPU and memory bars are gone.
They were both maxed when they took a dump.
This library works as an import extension in inkscape.
The install used about 5-6 MB of space.
It includes a lot of documents that I'll move to my hard drive later.
-
You can probably strip it. I built and packaged it in about 3 minutes, so I didn't bother.
-
how does one strip an IPK, or should the source be stripped?
Sorry for the newb questions, I don't know anything about compiling and related stuff.
-
I am not sure if this(pysol) needs to be compiled but it does need to be packaged effectively to run on the zaurus. I wonder if the extra python code needed to run it could be put in a seperate package.
http://www.pysol.org/ (http://www.pysol.org/)
I loved playing it when i ran debian on xqt and would like to enjoy in it pdaxrom in all its softvfp glory.
Also if it is possible the latest version of portable puzzles
(http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/puzzles/). There is a new game in it and aslo if possible gtk.c could be modified to run all the games in fullscreen(see function midend_size).
I ported the games to my pocketpc and modifying them to run full screen by default wasnt that difficult.
-
how does one strip an IPK, or should the source be stripped?
You don't actually strip an IPK, you strip executables and libraries, usually before packaging them into IPKs, but since Capn Fish didn't, you can also strip after installation:
strip /path/to/executable
strip /path/to/library.so
I think you have to install gcc to get the strip command (better still, use meanie's zgcc image).
-
I'll strip and repost it.
EDIT: Done.

Hi guys,
could anyone please, please compile planner 0.14.2? It's here:
http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/planner/0.14/ (http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/planner/0.14/)
The 0.13 version in the feeds is almost two years old...
Needs all that Gnome stuff, so I am not able to compile onboard, and I don't have a cross-compiling environment set up yet.
Thank you!
daniel

EDIT: Done.

This time the package manager reported about 2 MB usage instead of the 5-6 MB, as the earlier install.
I sent an email to the author of the site that makes this library available, asking about the included documents, and if they can be moved or removed.
The /doc folder is 2.62 MB when extracted to my windows box. I know the numbers don't add up above, but the pkg manager isn't always right.
Thanks again, I hope I can help in some way here, but I have very limited knowledge of Linux, programming, compiling, scripting, and all this technical stuff.

Great, thanks a lot!
Just tried it on beta3 (2.4). It complains about missing libasound.so.2.
Does anyone have an idea where to get this from? I have not seen it in any feed...
BTW - why should planner need a sound lib?
thanks
daniel
-
No idea, but it looks like it's in the alsa-lib package. See if installing that helps.

Hi can someone compile Golly
http://golly.sourceforge.net/ (http://golly.sourceforge.net/)
It's a game of life simulator, but with more features than gtklife, and lucidlife. In golly you can change the rules for survive and born, for example.
I tried to compile this onboard with no luck.
Thanks

thanks for compiling it, but it does not work either. it actually gets to the point of recognizing my camera correctly which is an improvement over the module i compiled, but then it gives an "Internal error: branch through zero: 0" message and hangs.
could you try compiling the other module as well, maybe that one works better since there are so many more releases of that driver and it supports many more webcams as well.

These would be nice tools for icewm for newbies like me.

I had to zip these up, the forum won't let me attach *.bz2 files

Could someone please compile this module?
It is "pcnet_cs" module for ethernet cards
I have searched everywhere and haven't found this already compiled for 2.4.20 kernels.
In the attached archive, pcnet_cs.c is found in this directory.
/pcmcia-cs-3.2.8/clients/pcnet_cs.c
I'm hoping this is the correct file.
If this only works for 2.6 kernels, there are two earlier versions on same webpage.
They are 3.2.7 and 3.2.6
I found it at sourceforge. Below is the information on the sourceforge page.
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=2405 (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=2405)
About Linux PCMCIA Card Services
Linux support for PCMCIA and CardBus devices, including kernel services, client drivers, and user-level utilities. The kernel components are deprecated for 2.4 and later kernels. The user-level tools are deprecated for 2.6.13 and later kernels.
Package Release Date
pcmcia-cs 3.2.8 July 16, 2004
File Release Notes and Changelog
Release Name: 3.2.8
Notes: Not much to report, a few minor changes for better behavior with 2.6.* kernels, and bug fixes for corner cases.
Changes: <pre> [16-Jul-04] Version 3.2.8 -- Added config check for realtime extensions, from Arno Geissel. -- Added capability to rename interfaces to network config script. -- Changed tools to use makedev() macro to construct device numbers. -- Fixed serial script to not try to use /dev/cua* on 2.6 kernels. -- Fixed 'ds' module test in rc.pcmcia script. -- Fixed orinoco driver's close() function to not "detach" the interface, which would prevent it from being reopened. -- Fixed bug in Configure script's propagation of CONFIG_SYSV option, from Johannes Martin. -- Fixed cardmgr to close open file handles when forking other processes, from Dan Walsh. </pre>

I'm sorry, but I can't. I haven't figured out how to ocmpile modules yet.
Somebody else probably can, though.

has anyone compiled the driver modules for the generic webcams that was up on Tyrannozaurus? I've tried to set up build enviros but I fail miserably. I know you said you can't compile modules Capn but I figured it was silly to start a new topic.

Could someone please compile jzIntv?
http://spatula-city.org/~im14u2c/intv/ (http://spatula-city.org/~im14u2c/intv/)
I'm running a 2.4 kernel.
thanks,
Christopher.
-
If I get a 2.4.x build env set up, I'll try, but I've got another build I have to do first (I'm getting to it, albeit very slowly, Chero ).
If somebody else would do it, that would be great, otherwise, wait a bit and I'll probably get it done (if it's a straightforward build).

Hey,
Could someone please compile Dsniff and Ettercap.
Here is the link to the latest version of Ettercap: http://ettercap.sourceforge.net/download.php (http://ettercap.sourceforge.net/download.php)
And here's the Dsniff file.
Thanks,
VirtusRex
-
Just mentioning that I'm slowly getting to this stuff (got a little sidetracked and all of a sudden have lots of stuff to work on/do).
My Z won't open the DSniff file. Are you sure it's OK? It didl't like it as a zip, a tgz, or a gz.

Has anyone managed to compile wvdial?
I have problems connecting with some internet providers using modem line with the default pdaxrom (pdaxii13) dialer. I 've tried to compile an alternative like wvdial or kppp but no luck. Getting too many errors.

I have added some new features* (and at the same time merged wellswang's fixes) to justreader and compiled it for the Cacko / Sharp rom, however I do not have the cross compilation tools to compile for the pdaxrom. Can someone compile it for me?
The sources are at:

Well, 2.2.0 - doesn't compile as it requires QPE headers, which obviously pdaX doesn't have
Should I try 2.1.0 or it will be the same?

It will be the same. However I am pretty sure I have not changed anything in the code that will require additional QPE header files. Would you mind generating a new Makefile with the Textreader.pro inside the source tar, and add the __FOR_QT__ directive in it?

Someone already compiled it , i remember ... check the new packages thread.

I use window maker as my main window manger. (one of three wm : icewm, dwm, wm)

I would like to view/edit RAW files from my camera on the Z.
I searched the forum and found this Thread:
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showt...=18438&hl=ufraw (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=18438&hl=ufraw)
This version works but is very outdated and the stable version for debian is 0.10-1.
Is it possible to compile the new version of ufraw?
UFraw Sources can be found here:
http://mesh.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge...raw-0.11.tar.gz (http://mesh.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/ufraw/ufraw-0.11.tar.gz)
Another software for Raw Files is Digikam/dcraw:

Does anyone of you have a good step by step documentation how to create a zaurus application from a native linux one as you do?
Do you need a special environment to do this? I want also to try to compile tools for my zaurus!

Google "pdaXrom cross compiling," the first links should be to OESF, and there is a good tutorial there.
Be sure to use the cross sdk from distro.ibiblio.org/... instead of the one they link to.
And sorry I'm not getting to any compiling. Stuff has come up and I've been sidetracked, but I'll try to get to them sometime.

Would someone be able to compile this ncurses based journaling app, called cire: http://freshmeat.net/projects/cire/ (http://freshmeat.net/projects/cire/)

Can someone compile gpicview ? It was just released yesterday.
Should be easy to compile. Thanks
A Simple and Fast Image Viewer with low memory usage
This little program is not aimed to be powerful or feature-rich.
It's aimed to replace the default image viewer of current desktop systems.
Fast-startup, low memory usage, and simple user interface make it a good choice for default viewer.
Features:
* Extremely lightweight and fast with low memory usage
* Very suitable for default image viewer of desktop system
* Simple and intuitive interface
* Minimal lib dependency: Only pure GTK+ is used
* Desktop independent: Doesn't require any specific desktop environment
* Open source, licensed under GNU GPL
The program is inspired by the default image viewer of Windows xp and another GTK+ 2 image viewer - gimmage. Although looked quite similar to gimmage, GPicView has much lower memory usage and doesn't require libraries other than gtk+ 2. Even libstdc++ was not used.

mainwin.cpp:141: error: cannot convert 'GtkTooltips*' to 'GtkObject*' for argument '1' to 'void gtk_object_sink(GtkObject*)'
Somethng about GtkWidget also

Try this package:
http://z.drun.net/packages/gpicview_0.1_armv5tel.ipk (http://z.drun.net/packages/gpicview_0.1_armv5tel.ipk)
I hacked it a bit, so it opens maximized, because otherwise it could not fit the screen
if you want to open it on click (at least in Rox filer), change this entry
/usr/share/Choices/MIME-types/image
and replace gqview with gpicview

Works great so far. It loads faster(2s vs. 3.5s for the same picture), has a much cleaner interface than gqview. Of course it has much less features(which I don't use by the way). I love it !!!
Thanks a million

Sadly it do not work on mine. I think I have to use your gtk2 and libs to get it work or wait for meanies new pdaxii13v2 version.
Maybe you have a good note for me which lib I need or something else?

Well, gpicview 0.1.5 just came out today fixing bugs(no more borders in fullscreen as I can tell) and faster zooming. It seems development is currently fast so I expect more releases coming soon.

If I understand you correct than I follow your instructions from your link. Before I do that I will replace my ipkg file with the new one from Meanie (same link) and add the ignored file. Inside this ignore file I'll put abiword, perl and others you had to replaced after all.
Do you aggree with this doing?
Thanks

- Replace ipkg binary with the latest one from Meanie(bug with ignored file fixed and option to make test upgrade added) from the same thread.
- follow my instructions till ipkg upgrade and do ipkg upgrade-test instead so that you can see all packages that would have been upgraded.
From these packages choose the one that you don't want to upgrade(wireless, hostap, abiword(but not necessarily), perl, roxlib2(but shouldn't be upgraded anyway since it has a different name compared with roxlib), all sdl*) and put them in the ignored file. Then do ipkg upgrade, the one that stop CF services can be installed later on manually. You may end up with redundant packages like freetype, the freetype package from kk's feed is enough, you don't need the other ones but you may have to uninstall freetype-old and reinstall freetype cause problems with names, symlinks. in addition to that, install dbus-glib. may I suggest mb-applet-powerctrl and gpicview_0.1.5.
Have fun
Edit: while doing pdaxii13-custom from 5.4.7 to 5.4.9 you may loose some of your customizations like changing the openbox keyboard shortcuts e.g. So, save these files in a safe place before.

I'd like to see the LIRC stuff working. And yes, before anybody says anything, I do know that as a remote control the Z is pretty much useless. I mostly want it for learning remote codes, and possible testing to make sure I have the correct ones.
All I've found so far for pdaXRom is some old Sharp rom stuff, which I'm kind of hesitant to use.

Well I tried the fluxbox 1.0rc3 posted earlier in this thread with PdaxiiV2 alpha1 and its not very stable.
The first issue I have is when I try to adjust the main bar width it will freeze for 5 seconds each time I try to increase the bar width. It also does the same pause when you try to change the with styles.
The other Issuse I am having is when I try to start an application like abiword, tasks, or any program for that matter fluxbox will crash back to the console.
In the earlier versions of pdaxii I used the fluxbox 1.0 rc2 compiled in this thread:
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=21726&st=30 (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=21726&st=30) by dtruchan. That one worked great and was faster then all of the others and had none of the issues above. But sadly it no longer works with the latest pdaxiiv2.
So Im going to repeat my request for a compile of the latest Fluxbox 1.0 rc3.
Also Dtruchan compiled fluxbox with the following options:
Compiled options (- => disabled):
-DEBUG
EWMH
-GNOME
-IMLIB2
-KDE
NLS
REMEMBER
RENDER
SHAPE
SLIT
TOOLBAR
XFT
-XINERAMA
XMB
XPM
Thanks again for anyone able to do this!

Hello to all,
I was searching the forum for a versin of joy2key for pdaXrom, but only found a version for the cacko rom. Could anyone compile it for me, tell me how do I do it or simply tell me a place where I can find this package for pdaXrom? Playing snex9x-sdl without a joy is a pain.
Anyway, the source code of the program can be found here: http://www.xs4all.nl/~rensg/Joy2Key.html (http://www.xs4all.nl/~rensg/Joy2Key.html)
Another package I'm looking for but I know is already compiled somewhere is kde for pdaxii13, if anyone knows where I can find it I would be grateful.
Thanks,

To those who have requested builds and I have not done them yet: I'm sorry, and I'll hopefully get to them sometime. I'm human, and I don't necessarily build in order. I do stuff that sounds interesting/looks easy to build first/only. Once again, my apologies.
EDIT: Antikx: With the applaunch plugin, you probably won't need wbar. Save RAM
-
Thanks.
But wbar looks soooo cool!
BTW. I compiled the latest Crossfire multiplayer game client (gtk).
YIKES! It start up but man it's slow (3-4min to load). It seems to take up about 45MB of RAM after it's fully loaded, so swap is a must. I tried joining a server, but it ended up taking so long to do anything, that I gave up.

I tried compiling it but it has no configure file and no Make file.
How do I go about making a configure file when compiling on the Zaurus?
-
It looks like it's just a Windows download (there are .exes in the file).
Otherwise, if there were a autogen.sh file, you'd run that, then use the generated configure script.

Capn Fish,
I was looking at your feed, and I see you have Aircrack there. Does it support injection using the hostap drivers? I temporarily went over to Cacko since there were some hostap-utils there that worked, but I'd like to come back to pdaXii13!

I'd like to use LyX and Latex (well, that's for me one big point why I bought Z). I know this is a long term itch for many. What I found is this page: http://yonggun.googlepages.com/scientificpdaxrom (http://yonggun.googlepages.com/scientificpdaxrom) (also linked from tyrannozaurus). Could LyX and tex/latex (e.g. tetex, or texlive distro) find a way to the official feeds?
Thanks.

This sounds like a great OneNote equivalent: http://basket.kde.org/ (http://basket.kde.org/)
not sure how will it would run on the Z though.
I'll try compiling it this weekend if no one beats me to it.

Could someone compile JWM 2.0.1 (fast window manager very similar to icewm). It's used in Puppy Linux 3.01. It's worth to try.
Source: http://joewing.net/programs/jwm/releases/jwm-2.0.1.tar.bz2 (http://joewing.net/programs/jwm/releases/jwm-2.0.1.tar.bz2)
JWM is a window manager for the X11 Window System. JWM is written in C and uses only Xlib at a minimum. The following libraries can also be used if available:
* libXext for the shape extension
* libXext for the render extension
* libXinerama for Xinerama support
* libXpm for XPM backgrounds and icons
* libjpeg for JPEG backgrounds and icons.
* libpng for PNG backgrounds and icons
* libxft for antialiased and true type fonts
* libfribidi for right-to-left language support
It can support some MWM, GNOME, and WM Spec hints.
Should be easy to compile
Thanks
-
Already done.

EDIT:
Nevermind, I found it (already compiled) on kkazakov13's feed.
Latest version of qemu. Can someone compile this for pdaXrom?
I got it from here: http://qemu-forum.ipi.fi/index.php (http://qemu-forum.ipi.fi/index.php)
Forum wouldn't let me upload a bz2 file.
Zip file contains:
qemu-snapshot-2008-03-30_05.tar.bz2
qemu-snapshot-2008-03-30_05.tar.bz2.md5
Qemu 0.9.0 is released.
Official site seemed to be a bit overloaded, (took several tries to get the source), you grab the source also from qemu-snapshots/
http://qemu-forum.ipi.fi/qemu-snapshots/ (http://qemu-forum.ipi.fi/qemu-snapshots/)
version 0.9.0:
- Support for relative paths in backing files for disk images
- Async file I/O API
- New qcow2 disk image format
- Support of multiple VM snapshots
- Linux: specific host CDROM and floppy support
- SMM support
- Moved PCI init, MP table init and ACPI table init to Bochs BIOS
- Support for MIPS32 Release 2 instruction set (Thiemo Seufer)
- MIPS Malta system emulation (Aurelien Jarno, Stefan Weil)
- Darwin userspace emulation (Pierre d'Herbemont)
- m68k user support (Paul Brook)
- several x86 and x86_64 emulation fixes
- Mouse relative offset VNC extension (Anthony Liguori)
- PXE boot support (Anthony Liguori)
- '-daemonize' option (Anthony Liguori)

Not strictly a "want it compiled" request: I have debian running these days and am getting much of what I need. One missing piece that works well on pdaxii13 is the "usbkeyboard" script along with the accompanying keymap file. Could someone post them here so that I can try them on debian? Thanks.

Hi,
could anyone compile Navit http://www.navit-project.org/ (http://www.navit-project.org/) to use the maps from OpenStreetmap http://planet.openstreetmap.org/ (http://planet.openstreetmap.org/).

Maps for Europe can be found here: http://download.geofabrik.de/osm/ (http://download.geofabrik.de/osm/)
If it's not possible to compile Navit for Zaurus there's a python application called Pyroute. Sadly I can't find the needed lib libcairo2 for that.

@kkazakov13
thank you very much for compiling catfish ! The speed how you compile all the apps is impressing me!
Do you have a good step by step instruction how to cross compile applications for zaurus? Only if it's not a big deal
for you please could you write down the different steps how you bild "catfish_0.3_armv5tel.ipk"?
I want to compile applications too but I'm not so familiar with cross compiling. If it's possible I want to use
vmware pdax86 image with vmware player. How does your cross compiling environment look like?

I just checked, I have optparse.pyc in /usr/lib/python2.4 directory. Checking my /usr/lib/ipkg/info/ , I've discovered that it's in package "python" - I have the full python package installed, not python-core and friends ...
Lately, programs I actually build onboard only ... because i'm often moving around and I put z to do some good things
If you're interested in my exact crosscompilation setup, check "Cross compilation setup" section in this tread - https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=25792 (https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=25792)

Already found this. Unfortunately it led me to nowhere as I could not find where actually the problem could be, as I'm having exactly 2 library directories and 2 include directories and already checked them. Maybe (probably) I'm missing something. Will check when have some time (in a day or two max)

Please, can someone compile DeSmuME for my Zaurus C860 with pdaXrom 1.0.1 beta1 ? You can get the source here: desmume.org/download/ (http://desmume.org/download/) .

You need to do some more reading before you post.
What are the minimum hardware requirements for desmume ?
From a purely technical viewpoint, there are no minimum requirements. However, for 'real-world' playable speeds, you would need at least the following :
* Windows OS: Windows XP or Vista
* Linux OS: Any recent Linux distribution with a 2.6 kernel.
* 2 GHz Processor
* 512 MB Available System Memory
* Available Hard Drive Space: A few MB for desmume, and several GB for the nds files.
* 128 MB 3D Video Card (Nvidia GeForce 6800 or better), ATI cards are not recommended.
* Optional: Sound Card, if you want sound support
* Optional: Microphone, if you wish to make use the Windows Microphone feature
What are the recommended hardware requirements for desmume ?
From a purely technical viewpoint, there are no recommended requirements. However, for 'real-world' playable speeds, the following gives you good performance:
* Windows OS: Windows XP or Vista
* Linux OS: Any recent Linux distribution with a 2.6 kernel.
* 3 GHz Processor
* 1 GB Available System Memory
* Available Hard Drive Space: A few MB for desmume, and lots of GB's for the nds files.
* 512 MB 3D Video Card (Nvidia GeForce), ATI cards are not recommended.
* Sound Card.
* Microphone.
In general, the more Ghz, the better. The faster memory, the better. Desmume currently won't benefit from multiple cores. Desmume currently is, unfortunately, slower than no$gba.

Any chance of someone compiling a new(er) version of Dillo for beta 3?
http://www.dillo.org (http://www.dillo.org)
thanks,
Christopher.
-
I'll try tonight, and see if it builds. I'll post results, if any later.
-
I didn't go too far before discovering the first big hurdle. The latest version of dillo requires FLTK2. As far as I can see, the 2.x branch has been abandoned, at least temporarily, in favor of 1.3.x. I have been able to build 1.3, but I think 2.x uses a different API. I'll know more later. If anyone is interested, I will post up the FLTK 1.3 when I've had a chance to clean up the ipk.
-
I found a static compiled ipk of FLTK2 in the announce section, intended for use with Dillo 2.0 (https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=18415&st=450) This will probably work...

Does anyone know how to deal with this? When I issue the make command, I'm getting Makefile:16: *** missing separator. Stop.

I'm sure SOMETHING needs to read these, but what that something is, I don't know. Anyone?

you probably need to run configure first to generate the Makefile with the correct settings.

I do run configure, but you are partly right. These tags are supposed to be removed and replaced by the configure script, but for some reason, they are hanging around after. Either the script is wrong, or I've got a new version of something that has a NEW and Improved way of doing things that's incompatible.
Some things I've found point to newer versions of PCRE

For the full repo for pdaXrom... I usually go to ibiblio: http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distri...rus-Cxx00/feed/ (http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/pdaxrom/download/1.1.0beta3/Zaurus-Cxx00/feed/)
There are other versions there at ibiblio... just look around.

thanks ckblackm,
ok ibiblio works well but in http://members.iinet.net.au/~wyso/myZaurus/pdaXii13/ (http://members.iinet.net.au/~wyso/myZaurus/pdaXii13/) for example, there is no Packages file, then the package manager dont see as a feed.
I have downloaded allthe feeds i´ve encountered (6 or 7) but i want to know how to make/ge/??? the packages file that let the package manager or ipkg install find packages there.
if only i could do that i´ll make a full working feed on a 2gb SD card, meanwhile i´m stuck to ibiblio.
thanks in advance.
