Title: Whatever Happened To Trolltech Rom
Post by: speculatrix on November 19, 2006, 04:54:32 pm
some time ago there was a kind of demo/showcase ROM made my Trolltech.

seems to have disappeared.

shame really, as it showed some promise, albeit incompatible with original Sharp or Cacko, and somewhat based on OZ.

perhaps lpotter finally had enough of the irritating trolltech flame-baiters

The qtopia 2 based roms should still be available, and yes, Qtopia 4 roms should become available at some point.

Yes, but will there be ROMs for more recent Zaurii?  The newest model supported by the qtopia 2 ROMs was the C700.  Thanks for all your hardwork.

no, there were images for 6000, 3000 and 860:

I am hoping for a qtopia 2 on qt-core-4 version, with kernel 2.6-latest, with a fully up-to-date version of Opera, and Skype to boot... and full backwards compatibility with Sharp/Cacko applications. Oh, and a proper port of tomtom or similar. Oh, and the moon on a stick, and a big bag of money.

qtopia4-core is in OE and opie2 svn has a lot off apps, so you can build your own with OE.

  Serves me right for shooting my mouth off before checking if my brains were loaded.
They have been busy.  Thank you.  The last time I checked the Qtopia site was mid-October.  You needed to register in order to get at the ROM images which were from 2005 and latest one I could download was for the C700.  Sorry, next time, I will check the site before posting.

BTW is the 3000 ROM image flexible enough to run on a 1000 or 3200?

I would imagine it would run, you'd gain a lot of spare flash space, and your hard drive would be in use... however, if you set up flash partitions correctly, you could probably copy over the hdd contents to a spare flash partition, and change the mount points... depends how much data is on hdd whether this would work.

Better bet would be to do the install, take a complete copy, then build your own ROM image with everything in squashfs so mounted read-only, and then use unionfs to overlay a read-write layer in either flash or hard drive (or both :-), and thus avoid all the symlinks that are the downside of cacko.
{I don't know enough about building a zaurus rom otherwise I'd do it myself}

really? I never knew that... I had a look at the OZ website, but didn't see anything referenced on the home page, and before it broke or slowed to a crawl the wiki didn't seem to mention it either.

OE != OZ

That makes a 5500 look really nice.
