Title: Python ipk problems
Post by: Anonymous on March 05, 2004, 11:00:21 am
I\'m trying to learn Python, so I figured I\'d install it to my Zaurus.

I tried the distribution at Riverbank:

http://www.riverbankcomputing.co.uk/zaurus...us/download.php (http://www.riverbankcomputing.co.uk/zaurus/download.php)

I can install the \"python\" ipkg, and \"python-compress\", but other ipks on that page refuse to load due to an unsatisfied dependency on \"Python\" (note the uppercase \'P\').

Is this a problem with the ipks I\'m trying to install? How can I fix this?

I don\'t know if there is something up with the Riverbank distribution. I use Mickey Lauer\'s build at http://www.vanille.de/projects/python.spy (http://www.vanille.de/projects/python.spy), though you need to use dpkg-deb to expand the files - they didn\'t install with the normal install app (Sharp 3.13) for me. I think they are okay with OZ.

The advantage of Mickey\'s set is that it is a more complete collection - specifically, it has the readline package so that the arrow keys work properly at the command line (you need to also install libreadline), and I conned Mickey into compiling Numeric, which is useful for numeric/scientific programming.

Give a shout if you need more help. Python on the Z is a blast, so don\'t give up!
