Meanie and psycoman have been working on porting pdaXii13 to the SL-C3200. Up to this point, discussion has been on the forum at www.tyrannozaurus.com. They have been working on the init scripts. I have been trying to keep up, but no joy. Maybe they will post a Christmas-Eve update.

a small news
for install pdaxii13 on SL-C3200 you need follow this steps
Warning: This still alpha for SL-C3200, but this mod need beta testers
Steps
1 - Copy pdaxrom beta3 install files to SD
2 - Install beta3 on SL-C3200 (dont need boot it)
3 - remove pdaxrom beta3 files from SD
3 - Copy pdaxii13 files to SD (get here: http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/pdaXii13/files/) (http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/pdaXii13/files/))
4 - Replace updater-tools.bin on sd, with this modified version for SL-C3200 (get here: http://zaurus.servehttp.com/feed/patchs/updater-tools.bin) (http://zaurus.servehttp.com/feed/patchs/updater-tools.bin))
5 - Install pdaxii13 normaly and boot then (boot process get many time , so be pacienty)
With this you can use pdaxii13 in you SL-C3200, but this still with minor issues, stay tuned

psycoman, would you say better or worse than plain beta3. If pdaxrom folks could manage to keep the website and the feeds up, I would probably get my beta3 working, but so far, very slow going. Thanks for your and Meanie's efforts.

you can skip step 4 now. the updater-tools.bin has been updated with newer files to support C3100/C3200 and the partitioning option now works to create a single 6GB partition. The 3 partition scheme will be implemented once someone sends me the output of sfdisk for such a layout.

Hello

[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=149239\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Unfortunately, not directly. According to meanie, you will need to install pdaxrom beta3 then update with his script.
I'm also hoping to use the pdaxii13 for the c1000, but will have to try later as I only have one c1000 and cannot afford the downtime.
I installed pdaXqtrom 0.82 and it seem to work fine. Launching from the icon seem to give errors. Running from console as su works fine. Strange, but will check the forum somemore ...

Thanks for the quick update, Meanie!!
OK, now I get to the installer screen OK!
1) Did the re-partition, choose the 'recommended option', went OK and did reboot
2) Then when I try the next step; Option 3 "Install kernel and bootloader" it doesn't seem to do anything...I select it and click OK and in a second it just goes back to the options screen....tried several times and same thing happens....I do have all 5 files on my CF card....
?????
Thanks,
Mark

are you sure you got either hdimage-base.tgz or hdimage-full.tgz on your card (all lower case)?

Just checked my CF card, it shows:
hdimage-full.tar
Is that OK??? I got files off the alpha page today....
Just the alpha files page and it shows '.tgz' at end, not '.tar' ????
Also, checked the stable files page and it shows v.5.2 is there, is it also on alpha page too???
Thanks,

That's the problem. It needs to be a .tgz file and not a .tar file. Maybe your browser was too smart and automatically extracted it for you.
The latest is build 5.1 in the alpha page. build 5.2 will be uploaded very soon... once I finish debugging gpe-calendar.

I just ordered my long awaited C3200 from StreamlineCPUs.
I plan on using this Zaurus for pdaxrom, and keeping Cacko on my trusty 1 yr old C3100.
I also want to flash it with pdaxii12.
My new zaurus should be here in about 2-3 weeks, depending on the postal system.
I hope I'm not cluttering up this thread, but I'm basically a Linux newbie and this will be my first time flashing pdaxrom.

oh man. this sux.
well, you can do the following:
1. flash pdaXrom beta3 (don't worry about the hdd for now)
2. flash pdaXii13 using the older updater.sh from [a href=\"http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/pdaXii13/files/updater.sh]http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/pdaXii13/files/updater.sh[/url]

OK, will do as you suggest and report back....

Thanks for being so brave and patient.
It seems like that the C3200 does not like the C3000 kernel which probably has the smaller nand size hardcoded in it somewhere, thus you will need to use the C3200 kernel which you get from installing beta3.
And just before you people ask me to make a kernel for C3200, I didn't compile the C3000 kernel. I just used the one made by ThC.

I've Got pdaXii13 !!!!!
Did see a few error messages during bootup...but after a few minutes I got to the 'Welcome to pdaXii13' message, so figured I was OK and after a bit got to calibration screen, then desktop!
FWIW, here's what appeared to be error messages during bootup (I'm only showing those lines, not the many other lines that seemed OK...):
mtd: partition "home" is out of read -- disabled

great you got it working!
mtd: partition "home" is out of read -- disabled
This is annoying but ok since you will be using /home on the microdrive.
In theory, you can reformat /dev/mtdblock3 as jffs2 and copy everything from /home to there and mount it as /home so you have /home on nand for those that dont want to waste the space on the nand.
warning: unable to open an initial console
This is annoying but harmless
trying to free non-existent resource
This is normal. Happens on all distros with 2.4.20 kernels...
EXT3-fs: Unrecognized mount option quiet
This is a bit annoying but harmless.
validate: dirty buffer
This is C3200 specific and not sure how to fix yet...
OK, that did it, Meanie!!!

Thanks for the explanations, Meanie....appreciate that!
Now, trying to install v5.2 hdimage to avoid suspend problems....
But still having same problem here at work (WinXP & IE6) when I try to download a 'tgz' file it shows the file as a 'tar' file in the 'save file as' dialog window!! That's why I had the problem I noted in an earlier post....
One solution is to download the file later at home on my Mac....
but would be nice to know for future downloads what to do to get XP to stop doing this!!!
Also, Meanie, to install v5.2 hdimage, should I do the whole install procedure again....start with pdaXrom, then pdaXii13....as you describe below?????
Thanks,
Mark

In theory, you can reformat /dev/mtdblock3 as jffs2 and copy everything from /home to there and mount it as /home so you have /home on nand for those that dont want to waste the space on the nand.
warning: unable to open an initial console
This is annoying but harmless
trying to free non-existent resource
This is normal. Happens on all distros with 2.4.20 kernels...
EXT3-fs: Unrecognized mount option quiet
This is a bit annoying but harmless.
validate: dirty buffer
This is C3200 specific and not sure how to fix yet...
OK, that did it, Meanie!!!
I've Got pdaXii13 !!!!!
Did see a few error messages during bootup...but after a few minutes I got to the 'Welcome to pdaXii13' message, so figured I was OK and after a bit got to calibration screen, then desktop!
FWIW, here's what appeared to be error messages during bootup (I'm only showing those lines, not the many other lines that seemed OK...):
mtd: partition "home" is out of read -- disabled
warning: unable to open an initial console
trying to free non-existent resource
EXT3-fs: Unrecognized mount option quiet
validate: dirty buffer
HTH,
Mark
oh man. this sux.
well, you can do the following:
1. flash pdaXrom beta3 (don't worry about the hdd for now)
2. flash pdaXii13 using the older updater.sh from http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/pdaXii13/files/updater.sh (http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/pdaXii13/files/updater.sh)
3. rerun the option to flash kernel and initrd
4. reboot

you can just install the hdimage again without redoing all the rest.
-
Well after waiting about 12 minutes for initial boot (also have that dirty buffer issue after 'checking battery') it seems I am up and running on a 3100 using the older updater.sh after a standard beta 3 install.
I did try a clean install first with the newer updater.sh but suffered the same kernel issue as ArchiMark did with the 3200. FYI
Definatly willing to test as things progress. Thanks to Meanie and others who helped get things this far along.

Thanks, Meanie!
OK, got v5.2!!
Just got connected to my wireless network at home with my Ambicom card....
Onward & Upward....
you can just install the hdimage again without redoing all the rest.

thought I'd try 5.2 on my 3100.
did a new flash of beta 3
put the beta 3 kernel in with the pdaxii3 install files... and... I seem to be having trouble connecting to antikx server. the hd image won't seem to come down- all I get is a 24k tgz.
Am i trying to get a file mid update? (7:30 alaska) or is there some network weirness between here and there?

Got my c3100 this morning! It's in perfect condition- I'm very pleased with it! It came with Cacko installed and I wasn't having any of it!
I decided to try ignoring the 'install beta 3' bit and just go straight to installing pdaXii13 as I would on the c3000 but replacing the kernel with beta3 c3100 one. To my surprise it installed without hitch, i just get one error four times whilst booting which says
Unknown flash (not normal NAND)
Straight after it says 'Welcome to pdaXii13 on Sharp Zaurus'
Does this happen to people who installed beta 3 first?
On first boot X started at 640x480 but before the desktop came up it dropped down to QVGA and wouldn't change back to VGA so I rebooted and this time I the desktop stayed at 640x480 but I can't hold down the key next to - and push 1 or 2 to switch resolutions as I can on the c3k.
So what exactly does the b3 installer do that isn't done by the pdaXii13 installer yet? Can I get QVGA working under X without installing beta 3 then re-installing pdaXii13?

That's because you are running pdaXii13 with the Cacko kernel

Meanie/psycoman/others. It has been awhile since any of the testers provided any feedback as to the current state of pdaXii13 on the 3200. How is it coming?
-
I can"t test --- can"t get complete files from the site. Thus no feedback from my 3100. Sorry.

Hi Ling,
So far, pdaXii13 v5.2 works great on my 3200.
Haven't found any problems yet....
My Ambicom wifi card works, Dillo, Firefox, Gnumeric works, and other apps I've tried, my 2GB CF and my 4GB SD card works, suspend works too!

Hello ArchiMax,
I´m also a 3200 user. Can you please write a detailled description, what you have done and which files you used. The name of the file or even the version nummer is required. It seems, that you can run Pdaxii13.
A step by step procedure will be the best.
Until know I have everything done like it was decribed on the tyrannozaurus page, but the upgrade of the kernel will not work. I see only a blue screen. The whole description what I have done is on the tyrannozaurus homepage. You can find everything under the same user name.
Again, a detailled description for 3200er user will be nice. Thanks for your help.

I second Romulus on that one - please write a step-by-step guide to how you installed pdaXii13 on your c3200 please Archimark- are you not experiencing any of the bugs I am on a c3100 (see my pdaXii13 on c3100 thread)? Maybe not as I think you've got it running with Meanies (Thc's to be more precise) c3000 kernel haven't you, which gave me a rootfs error and didn't boot on a c3100 but maybe you did something I didn't? I thought the c3100 and c3200 were identical save for a bigger MD in the c3200 so I don't see why your install method shouldn't work for c3100 owners too.

Hi Romulus,
Well, not that much too write....I just followed the 4 steps that Meanie instructed in post #27 in this thread:
1. flash pdaXrom beta3 (don't worry about the hdd for now)
2. flash pdaXii13 using the older updater.sh from http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/pdaXii13/files/updater.sh (http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/pdaXii13/files/updater.sh)
3. rerun the option to flash kernel and initrd
4. reboot
That's it! Actually it's really quite simple...(assuming that you've had some experience flashing a Zaurus before, if not, still OK, it's not that hard....)
Just used a CF with the pdaXrom B3 on it at the root level to do Step 1 and had put the other files for pdaXii13 in a folder on the CF card.
Then for Step 2, I just moved the pdaXrom B3 files into a folder and moved the pdaXii13 files (http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/pdaXii13/tmp/ except for getting 'updater.sh' which I got from other link shown above) up to the root level of the card and did Step 2, which includes a few other steps....
A. Choose 'Option 3' to "Install kernel and bootloader".
B. Choose 'Option 4' to "Extract 'hdimage.tgz' (either 'base' or 'full', depending upon which one you downloaded and put on your card...I installed the 'full' version).
C. Choose 'Option 3' to "Install kernel and bootloader" again.
D. Choose 'Option 6' to reboot. It will take a few minutes for this first bootup...so be patient...eventually if all is OK, you'll see the display calibration screen. Do that and then the display will come back in a 'grayish looking dot pattern' with a little 'X' in the middle, then that will disappear and then the pdaXii13 desktop screen should show up.

Hi danboid,
I second Romulus on that one - please write a step-by-step guide to how you installed pdaXii13 on your c3200 please
See my post just above this one....tried to summarize steps....
Archimark- are you not experiencing any of the bugs I am on a c3100 (see my pdaXii13 on c3100 thread)? Maybe not as I think you've got it running with Meanies (Thc's to be more precise) c3000 kernel haven't you, which gave me a rootfs error and didn't boot on a c3100 but maybe you did something I didn't? [div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=150434\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I don't think I have the bugs that you do....
My understanding is that besides the larger MD, the C3200 has a very slightly different CPU (same chip, but has a different revision number....)...don't know if that's making a difference or not in this case....
However, I think if you follow the steps that I describe, you should be OK I would think.....
HTH,

Archimark:
Thanks for those instructions- I can confirm that they work for c3100 too and that now I have a setup closer to pdaXii13 running on the c3000 as your install method (which uses the c3000 kernel) has fixed a few of the problems I had with the other install method.
I'm going to update my c3100 install instructions and update the bug list accordingly. It can probably be renamed c3100/c3200 install/bugs as you (c3200 pdaXii13 users) will probably have the same set of problems I have now.
-
I unsure if its worth my while updating my install instructions as in one very important respect my previous install method produced better results. Using Archimarks instructions, df tells me that hda1 is now mounted 3 times- twice under / and once under /media/realroot/mnt/ide and my vfat partition is getting mounted under /data and /media/realroot/mnt/ide3 and maybe this is the reason that I'm unable to save or modify anything on hda1 without my changes being lost after a reboot. I've tried a few times now to get my wifi card working and zgcc setup but the files I copy onto hda1 disappear after reboot. The same thing is happening with the pdaXii13 config file. I make changes, save them, open the file again to check its changed but when I reboot the file is back to how it was on install.
Archimark- can you alter/add files on hda1 and retain changes over a reboot?

Hello ArchiMax,
I´m not sure hoe you have done an update to your Zaurus, but your procedure is ot working for my SL-C3200.
1.) I installed PdaXrom Beta 3 on it and it is working fie.
2.) Download of all requested files from Meanies Homepage (updater.sh (v0.23), updater-tools.bin, ... from the 5.2 alpha testpage). I hope this was correct.
3.) Followed by step A, B, C and like you described above.
4.) Finally the Zaurus was starting to reboot, but after some minutes he stopped for some seconds and than I got a scrolling window with a lot of messages and it was stopped after 10 ... 15 minutes with a short message "Kernel panic".
It means for me something went wrong. Are there maybe different versions available for updater.sh (v0.23) and updater-tools.bin? Somewhere in the threats I have seen also, that some users renamed the old zimage.bin from PdaXrom Beta 3 into zImage-2.4.20.bin to use it as a replacement for Meanies file.
Also Meanies homepage ave no solution where he mentioned, to do the recommented partition first.
Maybe there is somebody with an idea to do it and of course with a long long detailled
description.
Thanks for your understanding. Maybe Meanie should implement for all Zaurus models a detailled description to installed his OS.
Best regards,

Hi Romulus,
Hmmm....
Yes, there are different versions of the 'updater.sh' file...if you re-read my earlier posts on this thread, you will see that I had the same problem as you the first time I tried to install....I think it was Meanie that said to use an earlier version of 'updater.sh' (I thought it was v0.23, but not 100% sure right now...).
As I recall, I think the first time that I installed pdaXrom B3 I did the repartition (I might have said on one of my earlier posts here...) before trying to install pdaXii13.
Then I installed pdaXii13 per my steps (which came from Meanie's recommendations on this thread...) that I described to you...worked well for me...
Might be good for you to go back and read through my earlier posts on this thread to reconstruct what I did along with Meanie's help (read his posts that responded to my posts...).
You should be able to get this working....just take it step at a time....
HTH,
Mark

A couple of questions:
1) Is there anything not working w/ pdaXii13 on the 3200?
2) Anyone have a good suggested partitioning scheme?
3) Once you have installed, what feeds can/should you pull more apps from? Only Meanies? Continue to pull from the beta1/beta3/contrib feeds?
I am about ready to jump, just don't want to leave my current config if something I need is missing.
-
Ling,
1) So far everything seems to be working OK for me...
2) I just selected the 'use recommended partition scheme' during install...
3) Not sure about feeds, so far I've used the feeds that are already listed in the package manager app....

Sounds good to me. Thanks.

Mark,
I am getting ready to do this today. Since no solution has been posted for the usb storage problem with rc121, I am going to go ahead with pdaXii13. I am going through your instructions trying to place them in sequence. Did you actually install the kernel and bootloader a total of three (3) times? It looks like it (2A, C, and 3). What did the default partitioning scheme give you? Just want to make sure I am taking advantage of the 6GB MD as opposed to an partitioning scheme for 4GB. Might as well have a bit more ext2/3 for program installation. I am actually wondering if I need any FAT as most of my boxes (the one I am typing on now) are linux. Don't mean to be a pest and appreciate your feedback.

Ling,
1) No, 2 times....A and C....
2) Here's my partition table:
Device
/dev/hda1 1 4264 2149055+ 83 Linux
/dev/hda2 4265 4761 250488 82 Linux Swap / Solaris
/dev/hda3 4762 11905 3600576 C W95 FAT32 (LBA)
3) Can always change using fdisk, right??
4) You're not...
Or you can also try Meanie's latest pdaXii13 NAND approach here:

Hi Romulus,
Well, not that much too write....I just followed the 4 steps that Meanie instructed in post #27 in this thread:
1. flash pdaXrom beta3 (don't worry about the hdd for now)
2. flash pdaXii13 using the older updater.sh from http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/pdaXii13/files/updater.sh (http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/pdaXii13/files/updater.sh)
3. rerun the option to flash kernel and initrd
4. reboot
[For more info, see 'Installation' section of Meanie's "Zaurus SL-C3000 - customising pdaXrom" document at"
http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/pdaxii13.html (http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/pdaxii13.html)
This section has instructions as to how to flash your Zaurus and what order to do the steps of upgrading to pdaXii13.]
That's it!
ArchiMark .. Thanks for the procedure that you used.. however, I ran into some difficulty.
Originally, I started with Cacko and a factory configured hard drive.
1) Installed Beta 3 per the instructions given on the pdaXrom website
2) flashed NAND with pdaxii13
3) repartitioned with the recommended partition configuration
4) extract hd-full.tgz
5) reflashed nand with pdaxii13
I get a lockup at the following location on boot:
EXT3-fs: Unrecognized mount option quiet
hda: hda1 hda2 hda3
hda: hda1 hda2 hda3
hda: hda1 hda2 hda3
hda: hda1 hda2 hda3
kjournald starting. Commit interval 5 seconds
EXT3 FS 2.4-0.9.19, 19 August 2002 on ide(3,1), internal journal
EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode.
Check Battery!!!!! <--- not exact message on this line but something to that effect
If I repartition with the recommended format.. wiping out the hd-full.tgz, the unit boots up without a problem.
I'm not sure why this is.. Any help is appreciated
Rick

Hi Rick
Its not a lock up at that point- your MD light was still flashing right? You just need to wait and wait and wait- first boot takes about 15 minutes or so to pass that point. Subsequent boots stalll there for about 5m
See my c3100 install guide (which I need to update to reflect bugs in 5.2 final)

in /usr/bin/mplayer
change the video out option to:
-vo bvdd
for both $GMPLAYER on line 8 & aterm on line 10.
...videos will run much faster
