Is this fixable or are all of the attachments lost? I have yet to find an attachment that loads.
-
Better yet, try and add an attachment to a post.

private messaging attachments do not work either..
-
it will be fixed.. please be patient. I am going to finish having xmas with my family and I'll get to it tomorrow
-
Sorry for a bit pushy again. Any hope to get the attachment function back before 2007? Thanks!
-
I've been finding a lot of drivers, modules, and updated package files posted on the forum, which are difficult, if not impossible to find elsewhere.
When the attachment bug is fixed, will all the previously posted attachments be available once again?
Thank you,
Jon

Attachments seem to be broken again, this started one day ago.
Clicking on an attached picture "Click to enlarge" results in a webpage full of code.
Clicking an IPK attachment also results in a page of code.
There are workarounds, such as using right-click and save as, but I cannot upload anything.
It appears as if the upload is being transferred, but the redirector takes me to a blank white page.
This used to take you back to your post.
When I go back to the thread I posted in, nothing is added or attached.
I'm using firefox 2.0.0.2 on windows XP

Jon, not sure anyone is listening? But they are still broken - Firefox 1.5.0.7 Linux.
Why is this forum so badly lacking admins? Took me months to get registered. Then we've had several major outages with little or no warnings? Is that the price of volunteer run forums?
-
I have also found quite a number of attachements missing.
And many attached images tend to go astray into messy codes.
Shall we start a "Lost & Found" or "Wanted" thread somewhere?

NOTE: I'm speaking just for Images... Attachments are still broken...
It is something with firefox if that is what you are using... because it does that only in firefox for me...
When I open up IE... it works fine...
So as of right now, it is not a forum issue...
Late
PS. I'm expecting people to say... "well it worked before"... but nothing has changed on our end to the best of my knowledge and I know that firefox was just updated a few days ago for me.

Isn't a firefox update. I just loaded ubuntu dapper ontoa a box with the included v.15 firefox (from last summer). BEFORE updates the images fail to display.

So how hard is it to fix MIME type so that we can view attachments? This has been going on for a while now.
I really do appreciate these forums and the efforts of the maintainers of this site. I hate to sound like I'm complaining, but is there some reason why this is an ongoing problem?

I believe this is a conflict in php5 and the forum engine... but I'm going to determine is there is a fix or if we have to upgrade...

Thanks for the info. It's good to know that we have some idea why this is happening. That puts us closer to a solution.
-
Ok... we got a little good and a little bad...
Bad is they done support the version of IPB we are running...
Good is an upgrade is prolly due in the very near future...
I will have to talk to the rest of the admin on planning this upgrade
We will keep you posted...
Late

How about if you all:
1) Let us know before you start the upgrade
2) Drop a note to Antikx to post on Tyrannozaurus once a day until it is back up
Just a suggestion.
-
Apart from the php4->php5 issue, is the problem also platform/browser-specific?
Yesterday I used IE on my office XP box to open the attachments and things seemed to go well.
But both Firefox and Safari on my Macbook fail...
Firefox and Dillo on my C1000 (pdaX 1.1.0 Beta3) fail as well.
-
Well... I noticed with with IE there isnt an issue with images... but downloading ipk's was the issue still...
Late
-
So on a site devoted to a linux-based pda we are only going to support IE? Attachments are still broken for firefox. Clicking on a jpg attachment yields a page full of goofy text.
-
I am having serious problems downloading files attached to PMs. I don't know whether to start another thread as it was a problem before the upgrade.
Files just go splattering onto the screen and I need to download them instead. And wget doesn't do the trick (they are PM gz, ipk, or plain binary attachments without suffixes), I get a "missing file" response.
Do I post details here or start a different thread? I only have access to 3 browsers, and have same issue on all of them: opera 7.30, links, and lynx on my collie.

sdjf, is there a way you can "Save link as" ?
If you can "Save link as", then save it, and paste or type in the filename.
or
copy link location, then use a download helper to download it.

I think that'd be the same as letting one download onto my screen, and fetching the URL for it from my status or history wouldn't it? That was the only way I could get the url to use in wget.
Viewing source gave me only the link's title, not the actual link..
what is a download helper? Is that different than wget?
thanks,
sdjf
-
Sorry, I tried to do this on my Cacko Z with opera 7.25 and there isn't any way to do it, the file's code loads on the screen if you use automatic downloading.
When I tried typing in the filename after "save location", nothing happened.
The file is supposed to download to /hdd3/Documents/application/downloads
That directory was empty.
You are probably going to need to use a desktop PC and firefox or something like flashget (windows) flashgot (linux)
If you can get meanie's pdaxqtrom loaded, you can use firefox. I'm sure it would download files, although I haven't tried downloading stuff with firefox on my Zaurus.
-
I saw the suggestions about "right clicks" but I don't have a mouse on my Z.
Here's details of what happens when I attempt downloading a PM attachment:
The url for the attachment is the same whether I do a "Save as" bookmark, or just click on the link and fetch it from my history:
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?act=A...ype=msg&id=4312 (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?act=Attach&type=msg&id=4312)
Then whether I do the following wget when logged in to the board in another window, or not logged in, I get the same results:
<blockquote>
bash-2.05# wget -O myfile.gz --http-user sdjf --http-passwd xxxx https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php\...g\&id=4312 (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php\?act=Attach\&type=msg\&id=4312) --13:32:03-- https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?act=A...ype=msg&id=4312 (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?act=Attach&type=msg&id=4312)
=> `myfile.gz'
Connecting to www.oesf.org:80... connected!
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK
Length: unspecified [text/html]
0K .......... .......... ..
@ 10.96 KB/s
13:32:06 (10.92 KB/s) - `myfile.gz' saved [23550]
bash-2.05#
</blockquote>
Then I renamed the html file that was retrieved so I could view it in lynx:
bash-2.05# mv myfile.gz myfile.gz.html
and the board message in the file is:
<blockquote>
Board Message
Sorry, an error occurred. If you are
unsure on how to use a feature, or
don't know why you got this error
message, try looking through the help
files for more information.
The error returned was:
Sorry, some required files are
missing, if you intended to view a
topic, it's possible that it's been
moved or deleted. Please go back and

</blockquote>
As I said above, got the same html file whether or not I was logged in. Is there a way to tweak wget or one of my browsers? I have no clue about the mime types on these files.
Thanks,
sdjf
P.S. when I click on link to "BB Code Help" I get an error 404 so sorry the display may not be quite right.

"tap and hold" is right click in some qtopia applications, such as netfront, but netfront doesn't download files anyway.
Fn + click works for right click, but this is on newer clamshells.
Can you mount meanie's pdaxqtrom cramfs/squashfs? It has firefox included in it.
Look under the X/QT forum for pdaxqtrom.

I'll try the tap-and-click thing in Opera later when I have more time, but I'm skeptical about getting anything other than binary on my screen.
Will menaie's firefox work on an sl5500 with sharp ROM? I don't have much room right now, but I could just yank out firefox I suppose...but it's also huge, isn't it? And I thought binaries were somehow hardware-dependent to some extent?
My primary SD card has a bad spot, and I haven't had time to finish backing it up and reformat it. When I do, I'll be able to make better use of it for installing new apps. But I'll try it...this download issue is annoying.
Thanks,
sdjf

Go here and look at paragraph 4
http://pdaxqtrom.thegrinder.ws/files/pdaxqtrom.html (http://pdaxqtrom.thegrinder.ws/files/pdaxqtrom.html)
meanie recommends X/QT for 5500 models as it uses less resources than pdaxqtrom.
Here's the thread for X/QT
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=16209 (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=16209)
This is getting off topic, look at that thread about X/QT.
It is slow on the newer clamshells, but firefox loaded in about a minute on mine when I had it installed.
I think you can mount it as a cramfs on a card.
-
Okay. Thanks for the specifics. Anything that will make PM attachment downloading possible.
sdjf

The url for the attachment is the same whether I do a "Save as" bookmark, or just click on the link and fetch it from my history:
http://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?act=Attach&type=msg&id=4312
See those ampersands (&)? When you use wget the shell will interpret them as run this job in the background. So basically what you're doing is essentially:
wget http://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?act=Attach&
ie you're telling wget to get the file http://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?act=Attach
which of course doesn't exist.
The correct way to download using wget is to simply wrap the url in quotes:
wget "http://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?act=Attach&type=msg&id=4312"
-
desertrat,
It was my understanding that preceding a special character with a backslash has the same effect as double quote marks, and they work that way in wget for me the rest of the time.
But I tried your suggestion, just in case I was wrong, and got the exact same error screen. Sigh.
sdjf
-

Sorry, you're right, I overlooked that
OK having re-read the thread it seems you're having trouble downloading a PM attachment using wget? Well I would assume (expect) that the forum software would check that you're logged in before allowing you to download a PM attachment, this is usually done through cookies. wget has no idea about what cookies your current browser session has stored, that's why you get a rather cryptic error message. You might try using the --load-cookies option (if you can persuade your browser to cough up a suitable file).

-
I'll try using the load cookies option, thanks.
I tried again in Opera, and it's clear to me as menaie points out, that it's a server issue. The same file downloads just fine (with a download dialogue box) from gmail when on the web in opera, and spews out onto my screen if I try to retrieve it from the PM it is in.
I can, btw, currently download zip attachments from forum posts without a problem, so I think there must be something different about the config for PMs and public posts.

and why not? currently when clicking on an attachment, the server sends the content back correctly as an octet-stream, but the accompanying header is wrongly being sent back as html/text which is clearly a mismatch and the browser obediently displays the octet-string as text as instructed by the header...

Appreciate what you are doing. Getting the examples also explains why I always had trouble with some downloads before the upgrade as well.
Late, maybe it needs a reboot or something similar to notice your changes? (cringing...another brief downage??)
My mime.types file also shows:
application/x-gtar gtar tgz
But it sounds more like that list isn't getting read by something...to point out what is probably already obvious to you.

No, I didn't think that. You were helping out with more data. I have just had a horrible time because of the attachment problem, and wanted ISO and Meanie also to know how much I appreciate their taking the problem seriously and working on it instead of telling me to install a fourth browser on my Z.
I am wondering, though, what, if anything can be done about attachments that have no extension. Sometimes they are binaries, and sometimes they are text. There are times when I need to send something to someone who may not be able to unzip a file.
What are files without extensions are destined to be considered?

Apart from the common image files (jpeg, png etc), all other files should be sent as "application/octet-stream" then the user will have the choice of "save file as ..." or "open with ..." (the latter if the browser allows).

Image files still produce a screen full of characters. Just tried it. crap

Thanks for the tip
Feel like posting an example?
My wgetting success has been in using the script for downloading feeds without hurting the bandwith too much. You know, the one that downloads the newer packages only. It appears somewhere in the posts about the cacko feed at stupkid's site. I was able to alter it to do the same for other feeds but I'm a bit unsure about how to get at the ZUG downloads. After all it would be counter productive to download the lot wouldn't it?
It might be handy to post a howto for the new users that keep asking for things that were/are in the downloads so that they could download specific targets. Any volunteers??
Cheers
PS I'm not very clever with wget myself but I'll report back with any successful results.

Here's a no frills basic wget command. The url for the feed index is:
http://www.zaurususergroup.org/feed (http://www.zaurususergroup.org/feed)
That shows you all the packages. You pick the name of what you want, and tack it on to the end of the above url. So, if I want hancompresenter_1.6-lite-1_arm.ipk, I would enter (all one one line):
wget http://www.zaurususergroup.org/feed/hancom...-lite-1_arm.ipk (http://www.zaurususergroup.org/feed/hancompresenter_1.6-lite-1_arm.ipk) Do not use wildcards...use the full url and package name.. Note the BBS software has screwed up my urls but they must be written out in full without any dots]
And away we go... There are lots of complicated options, like how to put the file in a different location. If I want something to go on my SD card, I would enter:
wget -P /mnt/card/ http://blablabla.ipk (http://blablabla.ipk)
No time to explain all the options but this should get you started. Here's proof it works:
# wget http://www.zaurususergroup.org/feed/hancom...-lite-1_arm.ipk (http://www.zaurususergroup.org/feed/hancompresenter_1.6-lite-1_arm.ipk)
--11:19:12-- http://www.zaurususergroup.org/feed/hancom...-lite-1_arm.ipk (http://www.zaurususergroup.org/feed/hancompresenter_1.6-lite-1_arm.ipk)
=> `hancompresenter_1.6-lite-1_arm.ipk'
Connecting to www.zaurususergroup.org:80... connected!
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK
Length: 118,393 [text/plain]

Sorry SDJF, I'm feeling disappointed now! I must have misled you.
I was talking about the ZUG Downloads not the feed. The feed is now back up in operation from the link on the ZUG main page, thanks again admin(s). Even when it wasn't, it was possible to do as you explain and wget individual files. I suppose you might be interested in this script for downloading the whole feed and for then keeping it updated by simply downloading the changes? I take no credit for it I grabbed it from one of the Cacko threads and edited it to use on the ZUG feed.
Thanks for your examples, they'll help me make more sense of wget.
What I'd like for Christmas is for the admins to restore the downloads, a collection of all sorts of roms, packages, scripts and generally interesting and useful stuff for the Zs!
Actually my birthday is in August so I'd rather have the downloads back before then for a present!!
cheers

I tried to attach the script. It failed. I'm renaming the file to have a zip extension. That should let me attach it. Don't be fooled it is a .sh file. If you download it just replace the extension zip with the extension sh.
You will of course have to right click on the attachment and rename it to getzugfeed.sh
The broken bits on this site really frustrate me!

So where the heck is (or was) the ZUG downloads? And what's the difference? 8^/
if it isn't too dumb a question

If I knew were they were, in the senses of the url, I would be able to wget the ones that I needed.
To answer your question: the simplest way to explain is for me to ask you to google for zaurususergroups aka ZUG and go to the link. You'll then see a page with various bits of info and prominent links. The links include these forums, zaurusthemes, the ZUG feed(which thankfully has been restored) and the ZUG Downloads. If you click on the Downloads link you get a menu which offers you about 200 files. These files range from scripts through various ipks, roms of all sorts (the majority for the 5500) and useful development files. They also include a zipped copy of the Sharp Rom 3.10 and 3.13 files for the desktop. I mean the files for syn and usb drivers.
The problem is that the links don't work
I hope that eventually the links will be restored. Some of this stuff is very hard to find. Some people have recently asked about them and it would be so easy to direct them to the downloads.
Cheers
PS Some of the links are referenced from ELSI, ZSI and other software libraries. The fact that they don't work is a problem there also.

In a rush, so don't have time to paste the lines together. I think I see what you may mean.
In:
http://www.zaurususergroup.org/UpDownload (http://www.zaurususergroup.org/UpDownload)
+index-req-getit-lid-243.phtml
I get:
Fatal error: Call to a member
function Execute() on a non-object in
/home/.nika/offroadgeek/zaurususergro
up.org/includes/pnSession.php on line 368
Clearly they just haven't updated the address or code references in that file since the move?

Spot on!
If you have a quick look at the headings you can see that there are some useful and interesting files.

I tried the above url
http://www.zaurususergroup.org/UpDownload/ (http://www.zaurususergroup.org/UpDownload/)
It didn't work, so I went to the main page
http://www.zaurususergroup.org/ (http://www.zaurususergroup.org/)
and clicked on [ZUG Downloads] and got to the page using this url
http://www.zaurususergroup.org/UpDownload.phtml (http://www.zaurususergroup.org/UpDownload.phtml)
You're right, none of the links on that page work.
-
I was also suspicious of the "phtml" but saw on google that a phtml page "is a Web page that includes a script written in PHP".
I'm thinking, though, that if I really want an ipk, I can always get the exact filename from the index page for the feed, and then wget it from the feed.
Problem is that even if we can wget the ipks, we still don't have the links to the home pages, etc.

But sdjf,
they aren't all ipks.
If you notice in the 'menu' for the downloads the ROM section? Under the Sharp Rom it says there are 16! Largely thanks to albertr, there are all the roms for the 5500 from the original 2.? to the 3.? This might be of particular interest to you?
Under tkcrom there are various release candidates of the 5500 rom and a version for the clamshells. Also available the Sharp applications as ipks if you wanted to use them with the tkcrom.
Similar groups of applications for some of the other roms.
Scripts, zipped up copies of the 5500 cd, the jeode java, opera ....
All in a nice convenient location and at the moment unavailable!
Cheers, and to any admin who has the time...Please restore this useful facility.
-
Ya caught me be lazy about perfecting my post.
I know the ROMs are supposed to be there as well, and that it is an essential resource for the community.
Sigh. I hope more people are helping InSearchOf with this.

ISO Just to say I am very grateful for your efforts
It sounds like you are feeling as frustrated as I am!
Possible tactic? Shift this forum to the top position
I did try a pm to offroadgeek.. no response so far
PS sdjf.. I thought you were aware of that.. Just using your response as an excuse to bump!

Wow, glad this thread was created. I hope someone is able to get this issue
with (at least) image attachments to open correctly. It makes it very painful to
try and catchup with what's been going on with the Z and see folk's screenshots, etc..
-
I am working on it, but I'm kinda stuck right now. I need the latest version of IPB and I dont have access to the customer portal.
As soon as I get it, the problem should be fixed (hopefully).
-
as a temp work around in firefox, what I currently do is install the Force Content-Type plugin, and add the following regular expression as a rule:
http:\/\/www\.oesf\.org\/forums\/index\.php\?act=Attach&type=post&id=*
then I assign image/jpeg as the new mime type so I can just click on attached images to view them.
in order to be able to download attachments, I set the mime type to application/zip, but the attachment is always saved as index.php so you need to rename the file afterwards.
now if i get really desperate, i could hack the Force Content Type plugin and make it read the real content type of the returned attachment and set it automatically, but I am hoping the forum gets fixed soon so i dont need to do this....
-
Any progress on fixing the attachments? Renaming index.php to some incredibly long name is getting very old!
PS Anything happening with the downloads?
