Being new to the C1000 machine and it's OS is one issue I have , but how do you members carry your device or do you? I also own a 5.9 oz X51V which carries comfortably in my suit jacket with little discomfort. I tried my Z in the same inner suit jacket pocket and....well I need some advice.
I hate to leave my new toy sitting on the desk!
-
Jacket pocket is pretty roomy for the Z. In summer I even carry it in my shirt pocket - a bit bulky true, but at least it stays with me.
In the jacket, (like today, I left my bag in the car an just carried the Z in my jacket - planning to get out of ioffice quick), I even have the wifi card in the zaurus, which sticks out a bit. But no problem.
Best is of course to have a small bag, and you can just dump the Zaurus and accessories in the bag.
-
Typically I dont carry my Z around... but when I do... it is usually in my inner coat pocket... with wifi card in... because my Z is allergic to pocket lint :-)
But for long trips I have a backpack that I just throw it in... with my pdaxrom dev log notebook and my Z accessories...

i bought a leather case for my Z but its far too bulky for a shirt or trouser pocket
ok inside the jacket though
I bought a shirt with a pocket with a button on it
far safer than the orig shirt ( lean forward Z drops on floor WIMPER)
metal top has a few dents in it now ...
Maybe geek anser is velcro in shirt pocket instead of button (:-))
-
i have a pdair case for it and stick the bulky thing in my deep pocket in my pants. It's fine if you don't care how you look with it protruding out of the side of your pants. without the pdair case, it fit's fine.

I lost an iPaq screen to this. Took 3 months to get a replacement one from foxxcon

For me the clamshell Zaurus is at that in between size where it is pocketable but noticeably so. Since wifi and bluetooth aren't built-in, I have a leather case for my Z, cards, and headphones. Otherwise, I don't mind slipping it into my front pants pocket, but the size and weight means you'll not forget it's there.
-
My wife usually tells me "Is that a Z in your pocket or ......?"
I usually carry a small laptop bag with me for all the accessories. I usually have a book in there and documents for work. It's a heck of a lot smaller than a Franklin Covey Planner. I'm also getting a car mount for GPS, Audio, and Movie playing.

Evidently I'm the only one around who upholds the best of geek tradition and carries my Z on my belt. It fits snugly in a low-profile and stretchable LowePro D-Pods 40 case, which also includes two pockets for my CF cards. The flap is velcro, and is configured to latch even with my (still non-working) WiFi CF card in place.

7-28-2007 After several months of inexplicable lockups of my C1000, I have traced the source of the problem to...my beloved belt case! I now no longer use the D-Pods 40 case, which I believe was causing my lid to shift just enough to change the state of one or both of the lid switches while still on my belt. I haven't tracked down the exact mechanism--I've contented myself with the complete disappearance of the lockup problem when I leave my C1000 out of the case. The problem is no fault of LowePro, of course, since they don't sell this product as a PDA case. But a word to the wise: your case shouldn't cause or allow your screen/lid to move at all when your Zaurus is stored in it.

Like Antikx, I too have a Dave Mirra GB case but, I very seldom use it. I also have have a cheap but well padded digicam case that I use from time to time.
But, the PDAir and Piel Frama cases see the most use for me. The Piel Frama holds my 3200 most of the time and the PDAir holds my 1000. I really like the way that the PDAir case attaches to the Z but, the things I can't stand about it is how thick it makes the Z and the lack of protection it offers to the sides of the Z. The Piel Frama is better in both of those respects. It is thinner and provides more protection.
I use a small messenger bag on weekdays to carry both my Zs to and from work. Both Zs ride in their respective leather cases inside the messenger bag.
-
Mine's in this post on the same thread as antikx's: https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showt...ndpost&p=117249 (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=17574&view=findpost&p=117249) Hangs from my belt just like the slipstick I used to carry when I was a freshman engineer, 42 years ago. (Flunked calc and switched majors.) It has room for camera card, wifi card, extra CF and SD cards, and even a CF-to-PC-card adapter.

I found the link ...
I liked nite-ize the moment I found them on the web, but One problem : try to find them in Belgium !
Most of the time I carry my c3100 in a piel frama case I got from pulster. When it gets rough, I use my grindergear case (now sold as extreme gear).

Shirt pocket. Too big for that, you say? Maybe, but the C1000 is a much a better fit than my old HP 200-LX or the 6000, both of which were likely to fall out anytime I leaned over. A large rubber band wrapped around the Z provides a little extra traction and helps to anchor in the pocket.
Anything that's too big to fit in a pocket is a device that you CAN carry with you, but will sometimes leave behind. I bought a Z because I want a device that I WILL have with me when I need it.

The LowePro D-Pods-40 is what I use and is sold in Belgium at the MediaMarkt (at least at the Nieuwstraat - Brussels branch). It seems to be similar to the nite-ize, but is a bit taller (can leave WiFi card inside and still close flap comfortably). The D-Pods does make the Z a bit thicker because of the large flap and reinforced front compartment.

I'll have to check next time I visit MediaMarkt (we have one in Roeselare right now). Just curious ...

I bought a belt clip case from Nutshell in New Zealand as soon as I got my 3100 early last year. It's pretty good fit, and even copes with my Ambicom WiFi card which I leave in most of the time, with a socket BT card residing in the front pocket...
It's a 'Nutshell 211' and cost me ~£30 last year.

Also if anyone's interested, I made a little Perspex deskstand for it as well.
See the attached piccies of the case & stand...

I also use a Ninento DS case I picked up for $5 at a local electronics store. It carries my SL-C1000, multiple memory cards, CF Wifi, CF Lan, CF Card Reader, SD Card Reader, Headphones, USB Host cable.
I'll post some pics when I can take some.

I have a cheapie Case Logic "case" which is just a sleeve with stretchy sides that clips onto my belt--actually works very well, although I wish the sides were just a bit looser, as occasionally they will press the power button while walking around and help drain the battery. On the other hand, it works just fine.
Incidentally, if you like carrying your PDA in your shirt, the "5.11 Tactical Shirt" has a "napoleon pocket" behind its real pocket that not only fits the Zaurus just fine, but won't let it fall out when you lean over--and it carries the weight well enough that you don't look too lumpy.
Teeny bit spendy (about $50 USD), and you have to put up with ordering them from places that try to be entirely too manly (SO TACTICAL! lol), but they really are good shirts--sturdy, lots of storage, vented, and a handy pen pocket on the left sleeve.
http://www.511tactical.com/index.asp?dlrID...=2&number=72157 (http://www.511tactical.com/index.asp?dlrID=511&dept=2&number=72157)
I like their pants too, but they're just a wee bit too cargo-y for all the time (although they do carry a ton of stuff and don't look too bad doing so). And if you do a lot of cable running and stuff, the hidden "removable kneepad pockets" may actually come in handy...

What a great idea! As soon as my SL-C1000 shows up, I'll head right down to the store and try them out. I like the looks of this one from Microcenter. http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_...duct_id=0251868 (http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0251868) $11!

that looks to be a really nice case. I wonder if it'd be big enough for a Nokia N800 as well?
fx: google google
Zaurus: 128x87x24 mm
N800 measures 144x75x13mm and weighs 206 grams
DS 148.7 millimeters (5.85 inches) wide, 84.7 millimeters (3.33 inches) long, 28.9 millimeters (1.13 inches) tall.
DS Lite measures 133.0mm x 73.9mm x 21.5mm
so, if it fits the DS it'll fit the N800 and the Zaurus. If it fits the DS lite it probably won't fit the Z and definitely NOT the N800
-- edit2 --
I just bought the intec case from ebay, not too expensive and smarter than the soft wallet I've previously been using. Moreover, now the DS is an antique, cases for them will also disappear off the shelves so don't leave it too late!
--- edit1 ---
hmm, trying to find a UK seller of this case... and I realised that there are some DS stands like this:
[a href=\"http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/11132.htm]http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/11132.htm[/url]
which would probably fit the Zaurus too
hmmm, something like this would be quite interesting if it could be adapted:

Bummer. I failed to notice that the DS light was that much smaller than the DS.
I'll probably still try it if the store has it.

Whatever you keep your Z in make sure it bounces......

Well, I shopped. True to the measurements, all the DS Lite cases are too small. I ended up with a RhinoSkin generic pouch that's nylon canvas with a soft liner. It has a belt clip and two tiny pockets in the front. It closes with a large velcroed flap. I had to put in a piece of the packaging foam down at the bottom because the pocket is too deep, but, hey, my HP41 case did that too! http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_...duct_id=0202612 (http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0202612)
I almost bought one by CaseLogic meant for an Axim which is a more rigid zippered clamshell, just like their CD cases. I would've had to clip out the stiff plastic holder for the Axim, but that's no big deal. The CaseLogic one would protect the Z pretty well, I think, but had no belt clip. I may blow another $22 on that one if the RhinoSkin pouch bugs me too much.

have you tried making one out of gaff tape and foam?
i have a wallet made out of the stuff and its tuff, you get a bit of reside after a week but it cleans right of and you only have to take care of it once.
the best bit is you can form it to any shape you want, i have seen everything from wallets to camera cases made by family members (weird family) and its not to hard to build in a belt buckle attachment and magnetic close thingy into the design
-
I use the official soft case for the original DS if I'm going to throw the Z in a bag - it's a perfect fit.
Normally the Z goes into the inner pocket on my (fairly hefty) leather jacket.
-
have you tried making one out of gaff tape and foam?
- DaBlitz, you are a hoot! Wish you didn't live so darned far away.
- I use a butt bag, or fanny pack, or whatever PC term you want to apply. It's a vaguely triangular pouch on a strap that people wear around their waists. It is a purse in function, and I often call it "my purse". Hiro, Wifi, BT, cell phone, wallet, money, keys, flash drive, checkbooks, credit cards, ink pen, chapstick, keepsake from the wife ... every single thing I ever have on me at any given time is in there, exactly like a woman's purse. Since it's leather it's durable and little rain doesn't bother the contents in the slightest.
- I do also have my old Psion 5 case in there, but the Z doesn't go in. I have it primarily to hold the WiFi and BT cards in a manner where I can find them again, and since it makes a separate little pocket in there, the wallet and cell phone ride around in that little pocket. That also keeps the cell phone upright and readily accessible, as well as providing a physical division between checkbooks, wallet, and Hiro, which I find handy.
- On those very rare occasions where I'm in a suit I really miss my purse. Hiro fits in the breast pocket just fine, but man do I hate having crap in my pockets and poking in my butt or my leg the whole time I'm sitting. If I didn't consider it such a gaffe to wear the purse with the suit I'd do it in a heartbeat, but the only time I have the suit on I have to be aware of things like that. Social norms. Sheesh.
- Now if I could just take that next step of gaff tape and foam. Sure be a lot cheaper...
