Hi,
i've installed Cacko on my 700. now i'm going through the steps outlined here in Rokugo's excellent Japanese input howto:
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=16808&st=0 (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=16808&st=0)
i've got Japanese working, but i need to flash the japanese kernel to regain the Japanese/English input switch button.
how do i flash the japanese kernel?
2)The カナひら and 全/半 keys are currently mapped as Ctrl and Alt keys respectively.
So you need to flash the latest Japanese kernel patch to release these two keys (not required for C1000 and later models).

when i downloaded the Japanese kernel there were three files: updater.sh, tools.tar, and unifont_1.0-1_arm.ipk. i tried "su", then "./updater.sh" in the terminal, but no love.
thanks,

I would guess the sharp kernel (and imho tetsu and cacko as well) is meant. certainly japanese support is avail on systerms running these.

It should be the same way that you flashed cacko. Put the three files in the root directory of your SD or CF, reboot holding 'On' and then follow the menu.

thanks Ling. wasn't quite sure how to proceed.
i did steps 2 - 10 again, then the last step (install new rom) and it worked. i've got the japanese input switches back.
