At work, I have WinXP on my tabletPC with IE6.
When I try downloading a 'tgz' file it shows it as a 'tar' file in the save file dialog window, no option for a 'tgz' file.
Have tried to find a way to either get WinXP to stop changing file types or get it to have option to save download as 'tgz' file, but so far no go....
Anybody know how to deal with this???
This is driving me nuts...not to mention screwing up downloads that I want to use to update my Z.....
Thanks,
Mark

use a download accelerator such as flashget.
I have to use flashget to get files from this forum. It prevents corruption also.
Firefox has this problem also.

Thanks for the suggestion, Jon_J !
Will search for flashget now....

Well, thank goodness! I've been agonizing over this for two days. I have WinRar, and was downloading stuff, and it would extract too much. I couldn't download a simple ipk file without it getting rar'd. Couldn't change the name and fix it, couldn't do anything, and I tried everything! Sheesh! I know I'm a newbie, but I couldn't find out from any search I made how to get the simple ipk file out of the rar thingy. Thanks for this post!

I used to just delete the incorrect extension and type in the correct one...it seemed to work. Kind of a pain, but it got the files downloaded correctly.

In windows, i use the combo: firefox + flashgot plug-in (one of the most popular plug-in for firefox) + freedownloadmanager. All of them are free and very useful.
