Title: C1000, Openzaurus And Opie
Post by: Z3n on January 10, 2007, 09:52:56 am
So, I have decided to start using my Z more often and thought that I would try out OZ.  I got the files, extracted them to the CF card, reflashed and all that but that is were I am running into a problem.

Upon restart I get into altboot.  I set a password and tell it to boot normally but when that occurs, I get to a command line and that is it, no GUI or anything like that, just command line.

Is there something I am missing or is it something I have done wrong during the flash?  There  isn't a 'startx' command or something like that somewhere?

Thanks in advance.

What files did you use to install OZ?

downloaded the 'install kit' from the Canadian repository, expanded those files onto my CF card and went to town

Did you download the bootstrap, GPE, or OPIE kit?
If you downloaded the bootstrap one, then that is the answer.
If you dloaded one of the other two, then we'll have to look into it more.

Sorry... I'm the complete idiot.
I've never installed Opie, only GPE.
Would you want to try flashing GPE just to see if it'll work? *shrug* Only thing I can think of right now.
Sorry for not being more helpful.

I was trying to get this done at work... I have done it before but since I can't access the network anymore (failed flash or whatever) I don't have a way to update the files on the CF until I get home tonight.

I will try flashing GPE with the 'install kit' from the same repository and I will report what happens.

Oh well, one never can get close enough

No idea about the canadian feed but try the hentges images from here:
[a href=\"http://oz.hentges.net/releases/3.5.4.1/T1/akita/]http://oz.hentges.net/releases/3.5.4.1/T1/akita/[/url]

Those used to work.

By canadaian feed, do you mean this URL: "Nick Boldt’s mirror in Toronto, Canada" ( http://divbyzero.homelinux.net:8080/mirror...3.5.4.1/images/ (http://divbyzero.homelinux.net:8080/mirrors/www.openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3.5.4.1/images/) )
I've never used that one, I think I've only used the one in the Netherlands. Perhaps the kit hosted in TO is damaged in some way.

Well I got home last night and tried everything I could think of to get it to load...  I had the Cacko Lite 1.23 on before starting all this and reading the docs for that, I believe the flash is partitioned differently.  By that time I was so frustrated that I just wanted to see my Z work again so I flashed Cacko back on it.  I will have to look at the faq on openzaurus to find out what the factory partition limits were and take a look at it all again and see if that wasn't my problem.  I think it is because of the errors I was seeing during the OZ boot but I am not sure.

I will work on it all again at another time.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Ah, oh well, sorry for not mentioning that.
You need to do a NAND restore with the original Sharp ROM, otherwise it will not work.
However normally you should not even be able to flash OZ on your Z without so I am wondering how you got that far :-)

If you are looking for an OpenZaurus image that definitely works take the link to the Hentges image I have given you before (which will not prevent you from doing the NAND restore anyway).
