Title: C700 Speed Issues [resolved]
Post by: bubox on January 20, 2007, 12:50:27 am
Hi,

got a c700 recently and love the functionality, but it's dog slow.

it seems to be slower in cacko than the original sharp rom.

anyone have any speedup tips for the 700?

which rom, original, cacko, other, seems to be the most responsive?

thanks,

bubox

You'll get the best stable performance running a 2.6 kernel, so that means OpenZaurus or Angstrom.

thanks for the input Koen.

i know the 700 is the slowest of the bunch, but i just need it to do music, vids (highly compressed) and maybe some web surfing.

the other day i checked out a c1000 at a big electronics store and i was surprised that it launched apps slow also.  not as slow, but it made me feel a bit better.

any other thoughts on speeding up the z?

thanks,

bubox

This might not be what you want to hear, but not running X speeds things a bunch.
There's plenty of great command line apps and have multiple tty's setup so I don't always use the window manager and thus enjoy greater speed.

Well, I did a nand restore to the original sharp rom and things are back to a more usable speed.  Hooray.

I really liked the Cacko rom, so I may try again after I learn a bit more.  I think my slowdowns with Cacko may be something I installed that gummed things up.  Who knows?

Antikx,

you mean X as in Xwindow, as in pdaxrom?

X as in Xwindows, yes.
But I guess I kind meant GUI.
I don't always use a graphical user interface because I like the speed and power of the command line and curses-based apps.
Different strokes, different folks I guess.
