Can anyone please point me to the \"Hybrid ROM with Qtopia 1.6.2\" for the sl5500 the link inZUG downloads does not work. Thanks.
-
It\'s currenty not available due to hosting problems...
-
I had local copies of these files so I updated the ZUG downloads area:
http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php...download&sid=35 (http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=UpDownload&file=index&req=viewsdownload&sid=35)
you can also get the apps for the hybrid 1.6.2 rom here:
http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php...q=getit&lid=204 (http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=UpDownload&file=index&req=getit&lid=204)
hope this helps

Thanks!
I have already have the 64-0 one , but this seems to leave you with no Ram to use for programs.
They were also producing a 32-30 one as well. Do you know if they ever did? It was mentioned on their website but when I tried to download it , they were operating the new website

Sorry, the 32/30 version has never been released. If you\'re very interested I have a beta kernel with such layout, which you can use with existing inird.bin file. But there is a bug in Qtopia 1.6.2 Package Manager - it does not display the RAM disk as a target for installing packages, so if you want to install into RAM, you\'ll have to do it from the console.
If you want, I can send this kernel to you.
-
Thank you - that would be very helpful. Could you send it to me via nigel.bamber@DELETETHISxlwi.com.
Excuse my ignorance but is the Kernel the same as the zImage file ?
I am only used to flashing ROMs using the conventional basis (pressing C&D,reset button etc .............). I think that you are implying that that method wouldn\'t work?
Thanks for your help.

OK, I\'ve sent you the kernel. Yes, it is the zImage file. To install it - just put it on CF card and follow the usual procedure...

Ah - I think I understand now. You mean that you cannot use the standard \'Software\' icon on the Zaurus to install IPK files but use \'ipkg install\' as a command within the Konsole application?

You can, but only to install into root jffs partition and SD/CF cards.

Kernel not yet received. Have you sent it ? Its possibly been zapped by the IT police. Might be best to Zip it first ?
Thanks
Nigel

Just sent the kernel again...
-
Thanks - but not yet received!
Did you send it to nigel.bamber@DELETETHISxlwi.com (that is @XLWI.COM only but in lowercase) ???
-
yes, I did remove the DELETETHIS. Give me another address...

Give me another address...
Ok !
bamberhome@DELETETHISyahoo.co.uk
many thanks for your help !

OK, will try to send to the new address on Monday
-
OK, I\'ve sent the kernel to bamberhome@DELETETHISyahoo.co.uk (DELETETHIS WAS DELETED)
-
Thanks - received with gratitude.

OK, let me know how it goes.

I installed it successfully over the weekend. I now understand the issue about installing packages from the package manager as you can only install to \'Memory 5\' where there is very limited memory - i.e. 4K, rather than \'internalRAM7\', where there is nearly 30K.
Would changing the Jffs partition make any difference?

The problem is deep inside Qtopia libraries. If you wish I can send you the libraries I\'ve built myself, that should have this issue fixed. I have not tried them on my 5500 Z, but it should work.

If you are happy to that would be very helpful. I would be pleased to test that for you :-)
BTW did you see my other post about a patch for the kernel (Sharp ROM/Sony Ericsson Phones). It seems that you may be able to help there as well !!
many thanks
