I searched the feeds and couldn't find a clipboard applet for pdaxrom.
Is there one available?
I cannot copy and paste between Leafpad and Abiword.
I just tried to copy and paste something from Dillo to Leafpad and it did not work.
The Paste selection is grayed in the Leafpad menu also. Where did my text go?
Does it just disappear if you leave an application in order to switch to another application?
How do I know if the text is still on the clipboard?
I can copy/paste from a Leafpad page to somewhere else on the same page, but as soon as I try to copy/paste across more than one application, it fails.
-
I find that highlighting text in one app and then shift + tapping (with stylus) works sometimes.
Let me know if that helps.
-
For me, in leafpad I hilight with the stylus then Ctrl + C(or Fn + tap to get a menu) then I focus on abiword and Ctrl + V(or Fn + tap to get a menu).
Shift + arrows doesn't select text in leafpad as opposed to the desktop version.
Selecting with the stylus in leafpad and using shift + tapping with the stylus in abiword doesn't do anything.
In the other direction, everything works.
-
My experience is that you just highlight text in one app, then either right or middle click (can't remember which) in the other and it gets pasted. You don't get any confirmation that anything has been copied, nor can you use copy/paste from the menu.
-
I forgot to mention that I believe Xfce has a copy/paste applet.
-
Shouldn't something as basic as a clipboard be included in a ROM?
Basic functions like ctrl+c, ctrl+x, and ctrl+v should just work across any text or graphic editing application that accepts input.
I know I'm comparing Cacko to pdaxrom, but I can copy webpages in netfront or opera and paste this text into zeditor, or hancomword. It just works.
There is also a clipboard applet, that sits on the taskbar, and is ready to cut, copy or paste.
Where is such a program for pdaxrom?
-
Ya, it's been my experience that pdaXrom need a little bit of work in this area.

[span style=\'font-size:14pt;line-height:100%\']How to Use the Xfce4-panel clipboard in pdaxii13[/span]
Install xfce4-panel from http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distri.../contrib/Chero/ (http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/pdaxrom/download/contrib/Chero/)
Here's a direct link to the ipkg (link) (http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/pdaxrom/download/contrib/Chero/xfce4-panel_4.3.90.1_armv5tel.ipk)
It might have some dependencies, so be sure to install those too.
When it's done installing, run "xfce4-panel &" from a terminal.
You'll have to play around with it a little, but there's also a clip-board plug in there.
If you want to, you can change the file "/home/root/.xinitrc"
[span style=\'font-size:14pt;line-height:100%\']How to Use a Different Panel When Starting X-windows[/span]
* Backup "/home/root/.xinitrc" to /home/root/,xinitrc.matchbox. just in case anything goes wrong.
* Open "/home/root/.xinitrc" in your favorite text editor.
Change the line that starts eval "matchbox-panel
toeval "xfce4-panel
This will run xfce4-panel on startup instead of matchbox-panel.
hope this helps. I agree a lot of things are missing in matchbox.
[edit:] You don't need to install the entire xfce4 package, just the panel and some libraries.
-
Thank you.
I have read the xfce thread, and I'm not sure what xfce4-panel is, if it requires the complete xfce window manager, that's too much just for a simple clipboard.
There has to be another way to have a clipboard in pdaxrom without needing a lot of extra stuff installed.

Well what about the good old 'xclipboard'? It's either in the standard install of pdaXrom, or the xfree-addon ipk. It is a standard X application, after all
It works when you highlight or ctrl-c something and I've just successfully used it between Abiword and Leafpad Plus it has the option for multiple clipboards too.

I found XClipboard here /etc/X11/app-defaults/XClipboard
Running it in a console gives command not found.
How is it used? Is it the pdaxrom clipboard?
Oh, by the way, pdaxrom site is down again. I'll have to check the feeds later.

That's just the file to set the default for the app The actual app should be located in '/usr/X11R6/bin'. You will probably need to download 'xfree-addons' from one of the beta3 feeds if you don't appear to have it.
And it's part (usually) of the X package (X comes with a set of standard tools: xclipboard, xclock, xmag, xcalc, xterm, xfontsel, xsetroot, xset, etc to make sure that you always have a basic working graphical environment.)
So it's not pdaXrom's clipboard per se, but X's ^__^
EDIT: Here you go, and just for the record, all the pdaXrom feeds are mirrored (and usually working) here:

I found it in /usr/X11R6/bin/xclipboard (13.87kb)
It should just work then, shouldn't it?
I still cannot copy and paste from dillo to leafpad.
If I copy something from leafpad and close and re-open leafpad, I cannot paste the copied text in leafpad.
When I close leafpad, my copy is gone *poof*

Ah, sorry I should have specified - you run xclipboard from the terminal 'xclipboard' then copy whatever you were wishing to with ctrl +c and it should appear in the xclipboard app. You can then close the original application you pasted it from and it will remain in xclipboard.
Just highlight it and press ctrl +c again to copy it from the xclipboard into whatever your new app is, and it should work.
I just tested this with Leafpad -> Xclipboard -> Links (I don't use Dillo).
-
it seems like I'm missing some fonts.
helvetica and courier
Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-helvetica-bold-normal--*--120-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1" to type FontStruct
Warning: Missing charsets in String to FontSet conversion
Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-courier-medium-r-normal--*--120-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1" to type FontStruct
the clipboard app then comes up, but my copy from dillo isn't in it.
Also, it shouldn't matter what browser you use, you should be able to copy text from any browser.
Even if this works as it is supposed to work, opening a browser, copying text, then opening a console, then launching xclipboard, then opening a text application, just to copy/paste between two applications seems like a long contorted process.
If I knew how to type at a high rate of speed, this copy/paste would be kinda useless.
-
Well in all fairness, in my usual Linux distro, I can use the universal method of copy/pasting - the middle mouse button. It's only because of the nature of pdaXrom and the fact that even an emulated middle mouse button doesn't always work as it should in it that we have to resort to using an actual clipboard app as a go-between.
(Or perhaps some window managers have better support for middle-mouse button emulation then Fluxbox - I have only used this though, so I 'make-do' with xclipboard ^__^)
I haven't tried using an actual mouse via the usb connector - perhaps with a 'real' middle button you could copy and paste as you wanted to?
-
I'll add one more post. This should be a very basic function.
People, like me who don't type very fast, always use ctrl+c & ctrl+v to copy paste from one application to another.
I know I'm comparing Cacko again, but I copied three entire seasons of "Alias" television episode scripts, from opera to hancom word, with no problem except it took awhile.
If I had to type all that manually, it would have taken me days or a week.
-
I've actually had a problem like this with dillo, and also with SciTE... do you think this could be the cause? Perhaps these programs have blocked the clipboard interface somehow. Can anyone second that?

Here's a more clear explanation of what I'm talking about:

I believe what I have noticed is that using the mouse button copy/paste works between apps while each app seems to get its own clipboard.
