Title: Infrared ?
Post by: kkazakov13 on February 10, 2007, 03:37:18 am
I've used once my palm to send IR signals to TVs, DVDs, etc.

Is there a program for linux, which can do the same ? And doesn't look too bad, and to have big buttons

Anyone?

The opposite - the remote.

The opposite - the remote.

If lirc is configured correctly with a transmit capable device (like any supported irda device) lirc will be capable of bothe transmit and receive.

Although I've not yet tryed I think any Z should be able to to the full infrared RTX.

I don't want to use LIRC ... it always gets me headache. Just want simple silly program with big buttons which can be told what to do, and to program them as I want ... can you imagine situation where I want to remember quickly IR code from a certain remote, and to open console and check with tools, then edit config files ... i don't want to!

This is still not what you are looking for but might help others too:
The config only needs be done once, including learning the codes of the remote you want to duplicate.
But I don't think lirc (on it's own) will take you as far as having buttons to press on your dektop.
So the first thing you need is set up correctly /etc/lircd.conf with all the romotes you wnat to receive/send.
Then you could use irsend to send the correct  "consumer Infra-Red command" with something like:
irsend SEND_ONCE  <remote control name in lircd.conf> <button name in lircd.conf>
Then omeone could make (if there is not already one ready) a python wrapper for irsend that hows nice buttons on a dektop window  ...

The IR leds in the Z are very weak, and a signal won't travel more than a few centimetres. This is by design as it's a good thing for IRDA - nobody can snoop your PDA over IR from across the room. But it makes the Z useless as a remote without an additional IR dongle. Griffin used to sell one, but I doubt anyone has written Z drivers for it.

I had z-remote working on my 5600 w/ zynergy I think. -- for a very brief time -- it did need lirc to work. ... I never did get it to control my TV tho.

You need a remote file from lirc-remotes (http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/)...  I chose an RCA D770 (http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/rca/D770.jpg)  .. be sure to get a universal remote, once you get lirc working, you'll still need to program the remote with your TV.
