Title: Switching From Cacko
Post by: steelmole on February 13, 2007, 06:01:23 am
I've used cacko for a while.  I find it's great, it plays media files, I can carry around a dictionary and a calculator easily, it's got a calendar and addresses etc.

One thing I can't get it to do is work with my compact flash wifi card.  I had openzaurus quite a while ago and with this I could browse the internet quite easily.  The only problem was it seemed to crash quite often.

A few questions, how easy is it to change (aka, reinstall a couple of apps and backup/restore my calendar/addressbook)? Also, IIRC I couldn't get videos working as well in openzaurus, but if I can use the same software then I imagine it will work just as well.

I don't know anything about moving from cacko to OZ, since i've been with OPIE-OZ all my life. But, regarding the video, I use mplayer to watch videos without any problem.

To my knowledge there no Kino for OZ. I've been using mplayer (command line) in pdaXrom and OZ since I left Cacko. It can take a while to get the right settings but if you search the forum and play with it you'll figure it out.

I wonder what the problem was that you had with the CF wifi card? If you ever flash back to cacko, try a "cardctl ident" and see if it returns anything.

Have fun with Cacko! I just reflashed my 5500 with OZ/OPIE Hentges 3.5.4.1 rom and I was very pleasantly surprised how fast it felt compared to Cacko 1.23 or pdaXrom or pdaXqtrom on my c1000 even though the 5500 is running a slower cpu at 200MHz while c1000 is at a 400MHz speed!
