Title: Sl-5500 W/ Broken Sd Slot For Music?
Post by: alisdair on February 17, 2007, 08:49:45 am
Hi,

I've got an old SL-5500 which currently has an ancient version of OPIE installed. The SD card isn't working which I think is a hardware problem.

I'd like to use this to play music, as the sound card seems to be pretty good. So, I've got a few questions:

1. Is there a relatively recent ROM I can install without using an SD card? I've had a good look at OpenZaurus which definitely seems to need an SD card. For the other ROMs, it's not clear whether they support the 5500.
2. What's the best music player out there for Zaurus, and does it work with your answer to 1?

The ideal for me would be a ROM with the large CF card support and a music player, which fits into the built-in flash memory. If anyone is developing such a thing I'd be happy to test it.

All help and suggestions will be gratefully received ....

Cheers,

Alisdair

You don't need an SD card to flash the ROM on a 5500. Some ROMs put /home on the SD card and you'd need a working slot for that. For what you want, try the Sharp or Cacko ROMs. I don't have a recommendation for a music player. The default one works. I guess it all depends on what features you want.
