Just wondering what people are using for Sega Genesis emulation under pdaXrom, and how it's working.
-
Never got genesis running very well - although dgen-sdl does work ok overclocked
-
I'm having problems tracking down a dgen-sdl ipk for pdaXrom.
I apparently used to be in the unstable feed but I can't track it down in here: http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distri...axrom/download/ (http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/pdaxrom/download/)
-
That would be a good addition to pdaxrom.
It works beautifully under cacko/sharp.
For RPG fans there is the Phantasy Star series.
The only game in this series that is missing on the zaurus is Phantasy Star 1.
It needs to be played on the Sega Master system and I'm not sure if there is an emulator for the Master system that works on the zaurus.
Under cacko/sharp, Cresho has put together a very nice package in this thread.

So far, I have Phantasy Star 2, 3 & 4 working on my cacko setup.

Check the linked page. There are lots of emulator packages for pdaXrom, i.e., Dgen1.23/SDL, VisualBoyAdvance1.7/SDL, gpSP0.9/SDL, generator0.35/SDL, and gngeo0.6.11/SDL.

Reporting back.
Dgen seems to play Sonic OK. But Immortal doesn't go.
Maybe I should start another compat list.
-
Antix, Can we get these in the Tyranno Feed? That would be cool.
-
You read my mind. Psycoman? When you have a second, would you mind putting them in there and re-indexing?

I just added the SMS Plus/SDL Sega master system emulator to the new packackages thread. I haven't tried Phantasy Star yet but every other game I've tried seems to work. Don't know if it'll work on the Cacko ROM though.
-
I have the master system working on Cacko now. Look at the posts in that long thread, starting from here. https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showt...ndpost&p=154893 (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=14102&view=findpost&p=154893)
The only problem I have with it is the taskbar from Qtopia stays onscreen on the right side.
The other emulators cover this up or remove it completely.
It's very playable though.

a little notice: gpsp rocks, it's fast, stable and well written, so if you wonna play sonic or other games just play GBA version (if present) on gpsp

Are you saying that you actually got gpsp to run on your zaurus at a decent speed? How did you do it? I just tried the ipk available at suhami.net and couldn't get any GBA games to play with it.

gpsp is a better GBA emulator than Visualboyadvance. I played FF I with almost full speed. You need gba bios to play the game. If you put 'gba_bios.bin' at the same directory with the games, you can run gpsp.

Great to hear gpsp runs well on good-emu and game starved Z, I'm going to have to check it out when I've got my c3100 sorted.
BTW Who's the lovely lady on your avatar?

I just tried gpSP, after using Visualboy Advance. Although getting the bios was a minor issue, I was terribly impressed by the increase in speed. gpSP moves faster at 416 Mhz ((almost fullspeed)) than VBA works at 520.
Thanks for pointing that emulator out! And to think, I was going to go buy a Gameboy Micro today.

yes, gpsp is very fast. but i never managed to set it to fullscreen, did anyone succeed in that?
-
Hi everyone,
Although I no longer have my Zaurus C1000 to test/develop Z apps on, I speak to Exophase on a regular basis. Exophase is the author of gpSP, and I was doing the official port of gpSP to the GP2X Linux handheld. I successfully got a dynarec working for it, and now Exophase has control of the gpSP GP2X project.
What I'm getting at is, I believe the Zaurus port is using an "interpreter" for GBA CPU emulation and not the MUCH faster dynarec. I have a great deal of the in's and out's of this emulator, and having a direct contact to Exophase helps too. If the author of port of gpSP for the Zaurus needs any help, let me know. Just wish I had my Zaurus C1000 back! Improved dynarecs on ZPSX and gpSP would be great.
-
It would be nice to have better versions of both. I hope you get a new Zaurus. It's worth it
-
as simple as changing resolution before launching gpsp
if you haven't got a shortcut set, simply:
xrandr -s 0 && gpsp

For 320x240 use the following; xrandr -s 1 && gpsp
Should note this doesn't make it fullscreen, just drops the whole X into a lower resolution. This makes the gpsp screen bigger looking. To return it back too full resolution, type xrandr -s 0
or make a script for it like this;
#!/bin/sh
cd <gpsp directory with bios in it>
xrandr -s 1 && gpsp
cd /
xrandr -s 0
It should work to enlarge the screen, and drop the screen back to the 640x480 on exit from the game. Hope this helps?
