Title: Wep Problems Under Pdaxii13
Post by: danboid on March 05, 2007, 06:44:32 am
I could see no docs for setting up a WEP-protected WiFi connection on either the pdaXrom site nor Meanies pdaXii13 zbook- I think we really need a good wiki for all this sorta stuff now don't we? I know it can't cover all the different types of router but it can cover the Zaurus software side of things.

I have had wifi working fine on both my Z's for some time with security turned off, but I've never managed to get wifi working with WEP or any other security measures in place. I have attached screenshots of the relevant settings screens from my router to this message but I also need to know what the (most likely) settings are to get WEP working under the pdaX LAN and WiFi settings tool like what operation mode should I use (Ad-hoc, managed, master...), do I use 'Hex' or 'Text' for the crypting, open or restricted for the authentication? I presume I should be using a 128bit WEP key and not a 64bit one and that you enter the key without any spaces or other separators (like colons)?

I'm not trying to be mean, but since not using WEP is about as secure as using WEP, I would recommend WPA. Have you given WPA a try?

Yes, I've heard WEP isn't the most secure thing ever but I was just asking as I thought it might be easy(ish) to set up with it being part of the LAN and wifi tool.

Anybody wrote a good guide to setting up WPA under pdaXrom?

I'm ashamed to admit I've been doing clear text. *blush*
Sorry to not be of any help.
From my memory I think you have to install a WPA (supplicant?) IPK. Or is that just OZ? Sometimes the Distro's/ROM's just blur together for me, sorry.
