Title: A Cacko Page
Post by: Antikx on March 05, 2007, 11:31:39 am
Wondering if I can get a volunteer to maintain a simple Cacko page: http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/?q=node/427 (http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/?q=node/427)
Thanks.

Thanks guys.
A basic page is up with links to the files. Keep checking on it as Harvell works his magic and makes it look good and adds more content.

The c3000 (unofficial, beta) cacko doesn't have a nice curses installer like the one pictured on the TZ cacko page, nor is the c3000 cacko beta linked to there.

If anyone is interested I'll write a guide on how to re-install cacko + tetsu kernel on the c3000 on a machine that has just had pdaXii13 or OZ on it i.e one that requires repartitioning too as I know I've got this install method perfected now.

Thanks for the heads up.  If you PM me the info I'll make sure to post it on the TZ page. I still have some more things I want to put up on the page... It's coming slowly.

Thanks again.

How about a section on recommended cacko apps like

kino2
zplayer
shoutcast streamer
photostorage
snes9x

Maybe with screenshots and instructions/tips where necessary?

I was thinking about that.  I mainly wanted to start off with the basics or "First things I do when I reflash to Cacko".  So far it's

1.  SD cards larger than 1GB
2.  Setting up wireless with WPA
3.  Cresho's emulators SNES, SMS, Zgnuboy, ... Games are important
4.  Feed's

All the things that I have to filter through threads to find the answer.  Thanks for the ideas.  More are always welcome.

Danboid, Jon J, and Others,

Would you guys recommend creating a library of NAND backups with pre-configured apps?

I have a C1K that I can load a fresh install of cacko lite w/
1.  Greater than 2Gb SD support
2.  KO/PI
3.  Cresho's Zemu
4.  Wellenweiter, WPA_Gui (if i can get it working  )
5.  Hancom Word, Sheet, Text
6.  Kino, mplayer, Voice recorder,
7.  Pre-configured feeds
8.  Others

Since I only have a C1K I would need help with others who have a 3000, 3100, 3200, and others.

That's only if Antikx will have enough space and wouldn't mind hosting these.

Any thoughts, comments, concerns?

1. There would need to be a NAND backup for each model of Zaurii that can use Cacko.

2. There may also be a need for these NAND backups to include 2 separate backups, (1 Full & 1 Lite). The Lite version is missing many things and I don't know if there is a definitive list of the all the stuff missing in the Lite version, that is included in the Full version. Some of these things seem to be really important, such as USB connectivity, and others.

3. These backups would need to be devoid of personal settings, but could have a varying degree of tweaks that anyone would want to have included. There's a lot of stuff in Cacko that needs some tweaking after a fresh install.

Now onto the backups, there could be backups subdivided into catagories, such as:

a. Networking enthusiast - for persons that like all that technical Linux stuff like wardriving and many things which I have absolutely no knowledge about, but many forum users here, use daily.

b. Office, word processing & PIM - for the office personal, with all the stuff installed for daily office use.

c. Gaming & multimedia - Loaded with all the available EMUs and a good selection of games, plus the standard media players.

d. Minimal install - This would only include lightweight applications, which also load and run quickly, plus some additional high priority apps.

e. All the above, and whatever more can be fit onto a Zaurus - "The Bloat Monger's Dream"

f. A combination of any two of the above.

I left out GPS and other specialized apps, such as cad/cam, or desktop publishing, or graphics enthusiast/artist. These could be added later.
