Title: Pose On Pdaxrom Beta3 (screenshot)..
Post by: Leinadmx on April 09, 2007, 08:12:20 pm
Hi, good day.

A "few" weeks ago I tried to compile POSE (Palm OS Emulator) for Zaurus (using pdaXrom Beta3).
Old posts:
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=23251&hl= (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=23251&hl=)

I did the best I could, the binary works, but when I try to load the Palm ROM I get a error message. I have attached a screenshot.

I do not know what I could do to fix it, any adivice will be appreciated.

By the way, to compile POSE, it must be done on the Zaurus because it requieres FLUID which is compiled and used on the fly when you compile POSE.

I apply a couple of patches to make it works, if anybody want try I can upload the patches.

Thanks a lot.
Best Regards.

cool! I hope you find an answer, I'd love to be able to use the Palm PIM apps on my Zaurus!

I asked this before, but is there any way to run the Palm Simulator? (not the emulator)
Later Palms don't load into POSE, they require the simulator.
My Zire 72 has PalmOS v5.28004

I haven't checked with the Palm site since about 2 years ago, but there was a newer POSE in the works that would load later Palm OS's. It was in the developer's page and one has to pay a high price to get permission to download it.

EDIT: I just went to the developer's page at Access/Palm and found that POSE only goes up to PalmOS 4.xx
You still need the simulator for PalmOS 5.xx and later.

Hi Leinadmx,

I'm interested in your binary and patches.
Could you upload them ?

Did you try different Palm roms ?

Thanks,
plcg

It's probably better to try to get the brand new GarnetVM working with qemu (since GarnetVM runs OS5 and runs natively on Linux -- although only a binary is provided and it only works on x86 processors, hence the necessity for qemu). There is a fairly fast qemu-i386 binary floating around somewhere (if you want it I have it) -- note that there is also a VERY slow one which is all but useless.

I tried it (barely) and it didn't work (it complained about a library being in the wrong format), but I'm pretty sure I could get it to work with a little bit of tweaking (it was probably reading an ARM library as i386 or vice versa). I don't have much time to spare currently, but I can try to rig something up in a few days if no one else does.

I can tell that it will NOT be usable, if it works at all. You will run emulator inside emulator in a slow machine? Good luck.

Well, there is no emulator currently coded that will run Palm apps well on the Zaurus, even if it only allows OS4 and below. I was merely throwing out a suggestion for those who wish to try OS5. Let's face it, a Palm OS running on a Zaurus is a pipe dream at best. Anything that uses any real graphics is OS5, and currently there is no other OS5 emulator for linux as far as I know. Plus, anything pre-OS5 will have a very low processor load. It was merely an idea. What OS4 and below apps would you want to run on your Z other than maybe Space Trader?

I have absolutely no need for a Palm emulator -- I have Palm T3 that I carry around for PIM stuff anyway and there is no Palm app that I want on my Z (I would much rather use one of the many desktop apps under pdaXrom than a poorly coded Palm app).

I think t3_slider is being overly harsh... there's lots of great software for the Palm, although you do struggle these days to find anything up to date that's based on the old motorola (er, freescale!) dragonball 68k based CPU. The 3rd party PIMs on palm are truly excellent, I use Datebook5.

I must admit I've never tried to use my Z as a PIM, mainly because I tend to tinker too much with the Z and never settled down long enough to be confident that I could always access the PIM apps... I long since ceased playing with my T3 and so it's pretty stable.

looks like POSE has been made to run on Nokia N800:
