Thank you for your efforts
Installing was fine. But charging battery and suspend on c860 is still broken, isnt it?
Yellow light is always off. Can charge from diagnostic menu (yellow light is on), but
dont know when to stop
What do I wrong? At boot time an error message about ac adaptor occurs.

I have r197 installed on 860 and haven't come across this issue.
ADDED: I used the u-boot in r121. Dunno if there is any difference from the one in r197.

Hi
I used the r121 to do an emergency boot and install 197
Latest pdaxrom with good apm support for c860 was kathrin beta1
I would be very cool to bring this functionality back
I cant believe that both accu packs are broken
I have r197 installed on 860 and haven't come across this issue.
ADDED: I used the u-boot in r121. Dunno if there is any difference from the one in r197.

A quick fixes for the key and mouse click issue in r197 (based on dinorex's and Capn_Fish's tips):
#1 Fix mouse right and middle clicks:
Edit /etc/sysconfig/x11mousebutt
Change the values from
hold_right_button 0
right_button 96
middle_button 97
power_button 117
To
hold_right_button 0
right_button 69
middle_button 50
power_button 117
Save the file.
#2 Edit /usr/bin/inputconfig.py
Change the values as follows:
self.rightmouse_mod = 69
self.middlemouse_mod = 50
self.ctrl_mod = 37
self.alt_mod = 64
Save the file.
#3 Edit ~/Choices/input.cfg, in the 3rd line, use
... MIDDLEMOUSEMOD="50" ... RIGHTMOUSEMOD="69"
And you may also want to change the "Shortcuts" in there.
Save the file.
(Re)start X. The keys should work now.
#4 There is also a fix for the four application keys (Calendar, Address, Mail, Home), see
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?act=S...ndpost&p=158860 (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=73&t=23744&view=findpost&p=158860)
-
Also i find matchbox is rather crippled in r197. Applets, Add/Remove in task bar, Application keys don't work. I have switched to icewm and things are much better now.
And the xmodmap still has the same mistakes found in the old releases.
Will go report in the bug tracker.

Seems to have installed fine. Not as yet noticed any APM errors/problems.
Can't seem to get wifi to work though?
Set up wifi card in lan&wifi app and it doesn't do anything when I click ok, card isn't initialised?
So far all looks ok. Least I got it to install, never did with r121 (think that was CF issues, used SD this time).

You need scripts to get lan to work. See pdaxrom.org for them.

Yes I figured that. I couldn't remember which though.
Looked at the scripts and it seems I get errors if I try
ifconfig wlan0
Can't post the output just yet as my C860 jus tlocked up on me solid
Anyway, get errors about symbol spectrum firmware in dmesg output???
This card shouldn't need firmware as far as I recall, never has in any other release I've used (OZ/cacko).
The card in question is a Socket LP CF WLAN.
-
OK, figured out the lock up. Wasn't a lock up. Was battery/APM related
Seems I'm getting the APM issue of the battery not charging.
Kinda bug that makes the release useless for me really
-
Try eth0 instead of wlan0. It seems to depend from card to card. eth0 works for my Symbol Spectrum24.
Also i simply use the LAN&Wifi tool and that still works for me in r197.

Seems part of it was it wanting symbol firmware. I'll try putting that in place and see how I get on. The APM issue may force me to go back to cacko once more though
-
OK, using those scripts and with the symbol firmware in place I get the card to come up and have an ip address.
But I seem to have no network activity/access

OK. Gave up with my Socket LP card.
Gave the D-Link DCF-650W a try... it works! after I run the script off of pdaxrom.org.
I have networking working. albeit with a card ive never used (cacko never worked with it, so bunged it in a draw out of the way).
No idea what is causing the socket card ot to work.
I'm thinking I might get an ambicon card and ditch that socket card, seems to cause me nowt but hassle!
WPA would be nice, but WEP works for now.

Touchscreen seems to work fine on my C860.
-
I'm not sure you are noticing the real problem of the touchscreen driver.
1) Can you correctly use xstroke or others writing recognition tools?
2) Can you get correct drawing in sketchbook or xournal?
3) Can you ALWAYS click correctly on buttons and icons?
try xournal; open a new file and tap screen with a finger. If you see strange line appearing instead of dots, than the support is crappy. That's not fine at all.
Thank you in advance for testing, let me know

I don't use either of the first two so have never tried them.
As for the third, I'll have to try later perhaps.
Without the powerlead it seems to shut itself down randomly and think the battery is dead when it isn't.
-
Thanks to the developers for releasing this.
Yeah the APM issue is still not resolved. Looks like the something (APM?) makes the Z think that it is low on battery and shuts it off.
Also, turning it on is a problem, I'm not sure if I should use the 'Home' button or the 'Power' button-- I've tried both, but I cannot figure out which one actually works since I press both until it finally turns on.
EDIT: Right after I wrote the above I realized that pdaxrom's behavior changed after installing the normal applications I used. Maybe the programs that I use interfere with the rom itself? Once I have time, I'll make a list of programs that I installed on top of the vanilla install. Please note, that I didn't notice the behavioral changes immediately after installation. They started gradually, which, I don't really understand why.

The APM issue is fairly major and critical. I'm gonna go back to cacko I think, need my Zaurus usable on the move

Hi
I would like to say thank you to the developer team. But since 860 model is worst supported the last releases I went back to original japanese sharp rom 1.10 plus update to 1.40jp
You did a great job, though ...
This fits my needs better. I will miss emacs, but powermanagement is more important.
I can input japanese out of the box, a dictionary is included, sound is working, enough pim software is installed, the clock is exact and battery is charged without problems.
And I have to improve my japanese ; )
Never mind
Enno

Hi there,
I can also confirm the APM issue is still there. I have make more checks,
hopefully a clue lies somewhere :
(1)
when 860 is off (cannot suspend), no AC adapter, the machine will
boot up normally, but battery status (using APM command) is off-line, battery status
high 0%. But then, after I plug in AC, the APM status change to on-line, battery status
critical, 5%.
This happens even in emergency mode.
(2)
when 860 is off and I connect AC to boot. the screen will show
sharpslpm AC adapter error and cannot charge message.
APM status is on-line, battery status critical, 5%.
Hope that helps,
Felix.
-
Some additional info :
I recharged my battery with another Z. then swap the battery.
Still the same problem
-
I can confirm that (so far) that I have NO problem suspending and resuming with my C860 after a fresh install of r197. Right after being plugged in all morning, I unplugged then rebooted & apm reported offline at 83%, which seems low but still usable. After suspending I can resume using both the power & home keys.

I can also confirm the same for my C860. I flashed it when it had with pretty high battery level, and in fact without the AC power.
(What would be the cause of the problem then? )
-
Dear Zdevil,
you said that you flashed it without AC power. Would that be the hint?
When you flashed it, what is your battery level ?
Because I have problem with r121 and r197, when I flashed it my
batt. level is very low ....
I will reflash it again with full charge and see what happens.
BR,
Felix.

A few post ago I wrote a list of simpe tests to understand how your 860/7x0 touchscreen behaves with this release. Since we are using a pda/mini laptop with touchscreen, this SHOULD NOT be a simple "detail". The touchscreen MUST work properly, since It USED to work properly till beta1.
So...
...please, can you test your touchscreen? Thank you all

My first check....
/etc/sysconfig/x11mousebutts still needs to reconfigure as follows in order to use "Fn" key as the right mouse button (i.e. no changes starting from beta4.... )
QUOTE:
hold_right_button 0
right_button 69
middle_button 50
power_button 117

re: pdaxrom.org [200-21] case, just hold the [Fn] button in console, and press 'A' key, you can get the 'a' character displayed....
this is due to the keymap for your machine isn't loaded....
-
Hi there,
tried flashing about 12 times already but still does not work.
I guess you guys must have a different AC adapter or battery.
Whenever I plug in the AC adapter there is an error.
My battery still shows 0%.
returning to Beta 1 ...
br,
Felix.
-
My experience is the same wrt power.
After installing uboot the charging light never comes on again.
The battery level gets lower and lower as it's never charging.
If I use the engineer's controls to switch on charging manually, then the light comes on and the battery appears to charge.
NAND restore back to Beta3 (ie anything before uboot) and charging light works fine.

-
happy to see someone other did notice. The same has been pointed out by Louigi600. NOW: in beta1 this didn't happen, and the driver specified in ts.conf is different. Can developers try to use the old driver in newest releases? Or discover problems with the new one?
-
hey men!! Is it possible to have an answer from people working on pdaxrom?
In beta1 in ts.conf I read module_raw CORGI, and input works properly. From r121 on, I read module_raw input: the cursor jumps between press and release events in a random manner. That's a bug verified on every 860 we tested.
Since you changed the ts.conf file, and you configured modules, you should be able to make some hypothesis arise, shouldn't you?
Let us know

I will look into it... it is hard to test a unit I don't have :-)

I wonder when pdaXrom team will ask OpenEmbedded developers for help or atleast will check what we ship and how.
Spectrum cards working out of box is just a matter of firmware package and script which upload it after card insert.
Battery working is a matter of kernel - pdaX still use 2.6.16 which we dropped weeks ago as 2.6.20 works OK for us.
Touchscreen configuration for 2.6 on Zaurus is easy too - we ship working one.
When will pdaX ship something what works? (I know that Ångström images have bugs but not so lowlevel ones)

Of course you can! I carry my Z around for work and that's why I am reluctant to install something unstable on it because I rely on my Z for all my work. I need every feature that my Z has working all the time and it needs to be rock stable 100% of the time. My Z current does this so I see no real reason to change that except the lure of more speed but I do not want to sacrifice everything that is stable and working for the speed...

ok. Now, there should be at least one pdaxrom developer that used to have an 860. Who?

Laze has a 760. I think sashz use to have an older model, but I believe he has a c1000 now

Are Laze and Sashz still actively working on pdaX? I haven't heard from Sashz in forever, and just from Laze a while ago...
-
I talk to Laze and Sashz just about EVERYDAY... though they arent active all ideas I have bounces off them first... so there effort may not be Direct... like commiting data to the SVN but they do there part... sashz is actually working on EABI...
So either read the above or just skip it.. and the answer to you question is...
Yes

Good. I was worried they had dropped out.
-
now, since they have a SL-C860, it should be very easy to ask them "hey men, look at my ts.conf, my touchscreen, my drivers.. you had a fully working input, and now it sucks: did you notice anything about it?"
-
I'm still getting the apm error (on my c760):
sharpsl-pm sharpsl-pm: Error: AC check failed.
sharpsl-pm sharpsl-pm: Charging Error!
.. which prevents the battery from charging, and makes the zaurus unable to resume from sleep.
Running apm reports the AC online, with battery status critical (5%).
Any ideas?
