Yes I know, yet another Z killer and only a reference design, but man is this sexy. Well, calling a device sexy might be a bit much, but it is a nice design. Not the clamshell that many may desire but I'd take it. And pocketable too!

Everything depends on the pricing. Any ideas?

Like Sony's UMPC offering I can imagine it'll be awkward typing on the damn thing. Why can't they just make a nice clamshell

I believe with the MIDs they are aiming at a $500 price point. I've not seen anything mentioned about a price on this particular device.

i think its great we are seeing a changing landscape of portable devices howevr it all seems aimed at briefcase or handbag size. nothing so far has really been as portable as the Z.
cant wait to see what happens when the folio or whatever it is called comes out from palm, i think thier idea of small devices with the option of a larger screen/keyboard si the right one and i cant wait to do some fiddling to make it a nice thin tem for the Z

A). Very nice
. Why doesn't someone (like Trolltech) pick up the Z from sharp and update it a little?
C). I'm getting kinda surprised by these--- If I were buying a pda today, it still probably pick a Z 3x00

With the number of new devices being announced on an almost daily basis, I'm sure there will be several that produce form factors in a size that appeals to just about everyone.
Though form factor is important to me (I like the sliding screen but prefer clamshell), software is more important. That is why I like the direction of the Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) and the modified Linux that is to run on them. RedFlag's Midinux should be out any day now, which is what the above device was running as well as Windows. And I'm looking forward to what Ubuntu will bring to the table with their mobile/embedded project.
Who knows, these may even be adapted for the Zaurus and breathe new life into an old but well designed platform.

- They have the nerve to call a block qwerty chicklet array a "full qwerty keyboard"? (guffaw) Such spin!
If I were buying a pda today, it still probably pick a Z 3x00
- Ding ding ding ding ding...

Hi guys,
I cooperate with a bunch of people from Elektrobit Automotive at work.
I will see if I can get some insider information about that device.

basically two things:
1/ access to hardware schematics
2/ source code for drivers unless they provide a proper linux port themselves
3/ a nice price
ok, I lied, three things.
