WHen you run dhry21 , you get a mips rating... For example, after the kernel update it increases from about 160 to 220 or so. The SL5600 is gauged at 400... Do these 2 #s correlate? If you ran the qclock and clocked the device at the max recommendation (471), should this go to near 400?

I remember reading on the forum of a command you can rewrite a /proc that changes the cpu speed too (i imagine this is what qclock does). DO you remember which file that corresponds to?

Its interesting, with the 5600 you have default 0x241, or 0x242 to overclock or 0x121 for suspend. No real man page on the /proc/cccr_change and all values possible, in the kernel info you can use 0x161 if the device is a c750/c760 c860 or 0x242 for sl5600, b500 or c700.

*** Question: what is difference between speeds of run mode and turbo mode? Since the zaurus is advertised as a 400mps machine, I guess the default Sharp frequency does have a turbo mode still of 398Mhz. The run mode is 199mhz. By overclocking you kick up both to 236mhz, and 472mhz turbo.. Will this cause the unit to be hot?

Im surmising that the drystone stats are correlated to the run mode then
to some degree? By applying Tumnus kernel, you kick up the drystone rating to about 220ish default. Then if I overclock , the 0x242, the run mode may be eve higher than 236mhz, and the turbo will be 472.

Can you also define with run and turbo mode mean?

my suspend value was just an example, it\'s not the real suspend value...

the turbo value is the running cpu frequency based on the bus frequency with a multiplier of 4. similar stuff like a PC architecture...

Don\'t confuse processor speed in mhz to the figure in mips which dhry21 produces.  This stands for Millions of Instructions Per Second.  The two are only related by that fact that increasing mhz (by overclocking)  will increase your mips score.  

It was intentionally designed to compare computing across different platforms, a 400mhz ultrasparc II cpu (sun) will easily outperform a 1ghz intel pentium cpu, even though it has a slower clock speed.

The 199mhz default setting on the cxx0 zaurus is the bus speed, this interfaces the cpu with other internal chips.  increasing this gets the data to/from the cpu quicker.

The mem speed on the cxx0 is 99mhz.

The cpu speed is 398mhz, increasing this allows calculations inside the cpu to run quicker.

They are linked, so you cannot increase one without the other on the zaurus.

Yes it will run a little warmer, but my tests show that my 760 with an overclocked rom, runs cooler than my 5500 without.

The 5500 problem is mainly down to heat from the backlight, on the c760 I nearly always use it in mini laptop mode so the backlight cannot heat up the whole unit.

Just noticed this is in the 5x00 forum, my figures were for the standard settings on a cxx0 device, but the principle still applies but the figures may well differ.

And of course the 5600 may well get warmer as it is a similar design to the 5500.

1) I put x\'242\' in /proc/cccr_change, and dhry21 speed improved to 274.422 from 231.739. Interesting.. Where did you get the memory, run_mode and pxbus speeds from?

I didn\'t notice the 5600 getting warmer than usual and I had it overclocked to 471MHz for a couple of weeks. As zbones said, the warmest part is the frontlight.

How could overclocking affect an application negatively?

my SL5600 is overclocked at 471Mhz since about 2 months, no problem so far...
