Hi,
I've Meanies pdaXii13 v5.4.7 on my SL-C3100 installed and want to use wifi-radar. To get up to date I installed the newest version of:
- wifi_radar_1.9.8_2_armv5tel.ipk
- wpa_supplicant_0.4.7_2_armv5tel.ipk
The I'm not sure whether this is the right way or not so I created inside wifi-radar a new profile with the following setting:
Network Name: bitbuilder
Wifi Options: Mode= auto | Channel = Auto
Use WPA: Driver=ipw
Manual Network configuration:
IP: 10.0.0.10
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 10.0.0.1
Domain: bitbuilder.com
DNS: 216.251.101.72
DNS: 10.0.0.1
Connectin Command: After = ifconfig eth2 mtu 1430
I'm not sure wehter these are the right settings. When I do connect to this settings I can't see any wlan although there are a lot of wlans here!
Do I have to do settings at System --> Lan&Wifi like for kismet or Wellenreiter?
Please help me to get this working!
Thanks

Oh, I forgott. My wlan card:
D-Link Air [DCF-660W]. This card worked fine with cacko!
Thanks

What, exactly is it supposed to do? all I have ever seen it do is tell me what Im connected to---an earlier version needed me to configure that part first, as well.
Is it supposed to find networks and help me connect?
-
I want to find any wlan round me to connect to them if possible.
That's all I want to do but I can't see anything. Kismet works fine!

wifi radar is a wifi connection management tool. it allows you to configure network profiles and connect/disconnect from those networks. (capn fish has written a similar tool without GUI) wifi radar does not use schemes and stores its own config and hence can work in both 2.4 as well as 2.6 kernels. it also has support for wpa (provided the hardware supports it and wpa-supplicant is installed). wifi radar can also scan for existing networks if it is started with the -d option, but this again depends on the wireless card supporting such features (firmware, drivers, etc... and the tools it calls also need to support these features, ie iwconfig, iwspy, ....)
-
I think my wlan-card support this feature because under cacko wellenreiter and kismet work fine with the scan mode.
Which setting do you have for scan mode. If i stard 'wifi-radar -d' at the shell i don't get normal frontend from wifi-radar. So I think this setting could be "Wifi Options: Mode=Monitor"?
Thanks

Hi climber,
I just installed R197 and the SP8, found that wifi-radar ist already included there and so I gave it a try.
My idea was that wifi-radar scans for available wlans and helps me to connect, but I have the same problems as you. I only had some minutes yesterday evening and I didn't get a proper connection then. Hopefully this evening I have some more time to play with it.
When I start wifi-radar from command-line I see error-messages:
wifi0 Interface doesn't support scanning : Bad address
. Got current IP False
Got current SSID
until I stop it.
Why did you set "Use WPA: Driver=ipw"? This is not in the list of drivers in my wpa_supplicant. I only have "hostap", "atmel", "wext" and "wired". As I understand it, it should be either "wext" or "hostap"?
Cheers, Jan
-
Jan,
I see the same error messages as you! That's curious because I mentioned it before scanning with wellenreiter and kismet work fine!
Hmm....
I'll try a earlier version. Maybe this work!!!
Do you have any ideas how to fix the problem?
Regards,
climber
-
I got also the following error message:
-------------------------------------------------
Warning: Driver for device wifi0 recommend version 18 of Wireless Extension.
but has been compiled wiht version 16, therefore some driver features may not be available
-------------------------------------------------
??????
Cheerz,

Hi climber,
I got the same warning message as you on an earlier version of pdaXrom but this is really just a warning. Wireless worked fine then, but I didn't use wpa on that ROM-version.
On R121 I used wpa_supplicant, but without wifi-radar. It worked fine but it was difficult to add a new wlan and I had to use my own scripts.
I will give wifi-radar a try, it seems to do exactly what I need (if it does it )
As I said: I just installed the new pdaXrom-version and everything works except wireless. I'm quite busy at the moment but as soon as possible I will try to solve the problem. But: No, at the moment I have no idea how to fix it. I will start by checking that all required processes run properly and that the device-names are used consistantly.
Cheers, Jan

Jan,
that's fine! I just see that we have the same wlan-cf card "DCF 660W".
I'm wondering whether our wlan-card supports the scanning-mode or not. Meanie mentioned also the following things what we could check whether our wlan-card supports it or not!
---------------------------------------
...... depends on the wireless card supporting such features (firmware, drivers, etc... and the tools it calls also need to support these features, ie iwconfig, iwspy, ....)
--------------------------------------------------------
Hmm, a question to all which read this entry! If you have also installed Meanies greate pdaXii13 v.5.4.x and und use wifi-radar successfully (scan-monitor mode) please write it down and the model of your wlan-cf card.
Thanks

Climber,
I only had a few minutes but I found out that the error message "Interface doesn't support scanning" comes from
iwlist scan
wifi-radar seems to just call the standard wireless utilities and one of them, iwlist, seems not to support scanning. It would be interesting to know if someone else uses wifi-radar and is able to use the scanning. The question ist: Is it just the combination of the drivers and network-card or is scanning through iwlist generally not possible on pdaXrom.
Cheers, Jan
-
from commandline using -d wifi-radar scans my ap, then ends. Kismet finds other nearby APs--this may be because I don't know what I'm doing with wifi-radar? anyway, I'm not getting any "unsupported " error
-
wifi radar uses the standard iwlist tool and depending on your wifi card and associated module, it may work or may not.
my sandisk cf works, however, my netgear does not. there is nothing wrong with wifi radar. you just need to get another card if it does not support such feature at all, or upgrade the driver/module for your card if your card does support the feature but the current driver does not support it. some cards also require you to upgrade the firmware.
-
Meanie,
your working cf-wlan card from SandDisk calls "SanDisk Connect Plus CF WiFi + 128MB Memory card "?
Thanks

Hi,
I was not able to get the scanning working on my machine. There is probably an error in the driver for the card or scanning is not properly included in the interface. The card itself supports scanning, wellenreiter works perfect.
The other functionality, setting up a network and connecting to it, works fine now with me. I use wpa_supplicant since I have a router with WPA-PSK. My settings are:
Wireless device wlan0
Scan Timeout 10
Use speak-up: no
Commit required: no
Ifup required: yes
Network Name
Mode Managed
Channel auto
Key
Security restricted
Use WPA
Driver wext
Automatic network configuration (DHCP)
I will use wifi-radar instead of my old script, it's much more convinient and the existing network set-up does not support wpa. But it would be nice to have scanning available in wifi-radar.
Cheers, Jan

I have a fresh flash of pdaxii13 (5.4.9) on NAND
I installed wifi-radar 1.9.8-1 and python-threading.
I used it several times and it didn't seem to have any problems.
The last time I used it, after trying to connect to one of the four entries that it detected, it hung up, and I had to restart X
Now when I launch wifi-radar, it just shows a white empty box where the application should be.
I cannot close this white box, I need to restart X to get rid of it.
I have since rebooted, but my C3200 hung when stopping CF services, so I had to reset it in the battery compartment.
Should I uninstall (then re-install) wifi-radar and the one dependency that I needed for it when I installed it? (python-threading)
I really want to try solighten's WPA PSK method he outlined in the post above, since I have been using my cacko Zaurus with WPA all summer with no problems.
EDIT:
I use this card and it has the later firmware: Ambicom WL1100C-CF Wifi (PRI: id=0x15 v1.1.1 and STA: id=0x1f v1.8.0)
I later found out that I can launch (and close) wifi-radar in a console
There are 2 error messages it spits out upon launch.
(wifi-radar:2499): Gdk-WARNING **: local not supported by Xlib
(wifi-radar:2499): Gdk-WARNING **: cannot set local modifiers

you probably corrupted your wifi radar config. just remove it from /etc/wifi-radar.conf and try starting again.
it that doesn't help, you most likely also corrupted some other settings... i would recommend performing a fsck...
-
I uninstalled wifi-radar 1.9.8-1 and installed 1.9.8-2
I don't have the previous problems, but still get the same error messages in a console when launching it.
(wifi-radar:2499): Gdk-WARNING **: local not supported by Xlib
(wifi-radar:2499): Gdk-WARNING **: cannot set local modifiers
I don't know if these errors are causing any problems, I just thought I would list them.
wifi-radar scans and seems to work fine now. I haven't gotten my WPA connection working yet.
There are 4 listings for connections here at my house. 3 of them have the "Lock" icon and the 4th has no "Lock" icon.
I connected briefly to the 4th one, but it only stayed connected for about 20 seconds.
I have everything running in NAND except my swap. I thought fsck is for the hard drive.

the Gdk warning can be ignored. you sure it is not locale instead of local?
sorry, i thought you were using the microdrive in which case fsck can fix filesystem corruptions. if you have corruption problem with your nand then only a reflash can fix those, but it seems like you dont have any problems after all...
-

You're right it is locale
Is there a step-by-step guide for connecting with WPA, like there is for Cacko.
Is there a place I can place "WPA=yes" like in Cacko?
I have no way to connect that works if I want to upgrade my C3200 to pdaxii13v2
Neither of my LAN things work (Socket Rugged CF 10/100) and (Linksys USB200M USB 2.0 10/100 Network Adapter)
I haven't figured out tcp/ip over USB like in Cacko.

ah right. if you want to get rid of the locale warnings, just type:
export LC_ALL=C
export LC_LANGUAGE=C
put it in your .bashrc or .profile if you want it to be done automatically every time...
as for setting up WPA, ask walkman. he got it working under 5.4.9. i dont have a wpa enabled router...

Few weeks ago you've been involved in a discussion where a solution was found: https://www.oesf.org/forums/lofiversion/ind...php/t24021.html (https://www.oesf.org/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t24021.html). I followed it yesterday and today (I am a complete newbie to Zaurus/pdaXii13 as I received the gadget only 3 days ago) and I managed to go along those instructions and it works. Now I am experimenting with EAP+TTLS configs (no success yet ). So to make it simple:
- Quit worrying about the erroneous card identification in the tray applet. Evidently wifi-radar overrides that.
- Starting from a clean install, set up your ssid in the Lan and Wifi applet, leaving the WEP stuff blank <-- THIS TURNED OUT TO BE IMPORTANT AS OTHERWISE YOU DO NOT HAVE BOILERPLATE CONFIG ENTRIES
- Edit /etc/pcmcia/network.opts to add the line
CODE
WPA="y" <--- ADD IT TO THE PROFILE YOU ARE CONNECTING WITH
at the end of the entry just created under your ssid.
- Add your network's information to /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf (Or replace the whole file. Here's mine, (with the psk modified)):
CODE
network={
ssid="0ur1an"
proto=WPA
pairwise=TKIP
psk=AC373C7C9925138F48B21AEC4F4734CA01D333485BF10014F4734CA01A655C57
priority=1
}
^^^^^ YOU CREATE THAT ENTRY USING wpa_passphrase
- In wifi-radar, add your network's configuration, specifying the appropriate driver (hostap for most cards).
- I also added "ifconfig wlan0 up" to the connection command option in wifi-radar. <--- THIS IS IMPORTANT. HOWEVER THERE'S A SIMILAR OPTION IN wifi-radar PROPERTIES ABOUT ifup. NO CLUE HOW THESE INTERFERE, BUT I GUESS THEY DO.
That completes the setup.
Now, after reboot or sleep, I can connect just using wifi-radar.
Good luck.

I have this in my wpa_supplicant.conf
[div class=\'codetop\']CODE[/div][div class=\'codemain\' style=\'height:200px;white-space:pre;overflow:auto\']network={
ssid=my-p4
proto=WPA
pairwise=TKIP
(my passphrase is here commented out: #psk=xxx-etc)
(my long string of chars is here: psk=long string of chars)
priority=1
}[/div]
It still won't get the IP address when I try to connect in wifi-radar, no lights flicker on my router like it does when connecting with Cacko.
My Cacko Z connects in about 5 secs. (using same Ambicom CF wifi card).
I also put WPA=y in /etc/pcmcia/network.opts
BTW, the last time I read that other thread was in May, not a couple weeks ago. I'm always gone for the summer.
Thank you for any help on this, Jon

I also put WPA=y in /etc/pcmcia/network.opts
[/quote]
it has to be WPA="y" - with double quotes.
hopefully it helps (writing from Z over WPA/TKIP wlan connection).
-
Thank you Walkman, I tried adding the quotes to WPA="y"
I still get no connection. Something is fundamentally wrong with my network setup.
When I insert my wifi card, it will blink at a steady rate indefinitely. This is with nothing else, such as wifi-radar running.
In Cacko, it blinks only once when I insert it, then it blinks several times only after I click the "connect" button in the GUI. Then it connects.
When I try to connect with wifi-radar in pdaxii13, it tries to acquire an IP address, but eventually fails. (no lights on my AP/router flash at all)
Once wifi-radar fails to acquire an IP, my CF card stops flashing its light.
If I try to connect again, (after the light on my CF card shut off), I still cannot acquire an IP address. (wifi-radar)
I've also tried connecting in meanie's "pdaxii13conf" through the network settings app to no avail. It gives a message that says "Unable to connect".
The network settings tool accessible through pdaxii13conf is different from the default network settings (I think this is Daniel's newer settings app.)
If you select Wifi in pdaxii13conf, you'll get wifi-radar
If you select LAN in pdaxii13conf, you now have access to a newer version of the network settings app, (complete with a WPA settings tab), and a connect and disconnect button.
The reason I tried this is because I have run out of ideas to get my wifi working in pdaxii13.
I checked the below 2 files, and the "newer/Daniel's" settings app, didn't seem to change either of these files.
Below are my 2 files:
wpa_supplicant.conf and network.opts
wpa_supplicatt.confnetwork={
ssid=my-p4
proto=WPA
pairwise=TKIP
(passphrase is here commented out: #psk=xxx-etc)
(string of chars is here: psk=long string of chars)
