Hi,
Where can I find out/learn how to compile? I have source code for the driver for a compact flash SparkLan wifi card? I am looking for simple instructions as I am new at Linux and the SL-5500.
Alternately, is there a wifi compact flash card that supports WPA on the SL-5500 thats easy to install?

setup a cross compile toolchain on a linux machine and cross compile the module for the appropriate kernel and model.

I guess some people don't read English real well. I am looking to learn how to do it because I dont not have a clue what is involved in compiling.

There are lots of steps involved and you'd need a very generous person to spell it all out for you from scratch with all steps. You can start by googling some of the terms in Meanie's post.
Most CF wifi cards (linksys, dlink) I believe will work out of the box with your Zaurus. I think WPA is more an issue of which ROM you have on the Zaurus than which card.

you expect people to teach you something that takes weeks or even months to learn in a few sentences on a forum?
if you want to learn you need to learn how to research because this is not a easy task and if you cant even do the research bit by yourself or are too lazy to make an effort, then you probably wont be able to do the rest anyway which is much harder. it cannot be done by simply following a few instructions... plus there already are some tutorials out there which attempt to show people how to do it and those keywords I given you would had allowed you to search for those tutorials...

Not trying to step on people's toes but ...
I had hoped someone could point me to a comprehensive 'how to' URL for people who know nothing about Linux but have a little computer know how. Or, must I spend unrealistic time learning developer skills in order to get the linux source code compiled that came with my compact disk wifi card so I can use it with a 5500? Or, did I stumble into the wrong forum--for which I apologize.
I appreciate the work developers do but I am just an end user trying to get my wifi adapter with WPA working. I just don't want to make it my life's work.
I am hoping that it is not a case of 'it took me this long and I am expect others to spend as much time to learn it as I did'.

Yeah, I wonder what happened to this thread; sounds like Meanie slightly misinterpreted what you were asking... he's normally pretty helpful.
As it stands, there isn't a step-by-step kernel compilation howto. Your best bet would be to look at some of the threads telemetric_au has posted; he's working with the 5500 but I don't see why it shouldn't work ok for the 5600 if you use the appropriate kernel source.

it is a matter of "if it was simple, there would have been lots of howtos written already and lots of precompiled modules available for download", however, the reality is that it is not such an easy task and and hardly anyone has tried to do it, and here you come along and ask for people to give you a step by step guide on how it is done and when people tell you it is not easy to do and you need to figure it out youself since nobody else has, but are willing to give you some guidelines, you make accusations....
