Title: OZ 3.3.5 + 5600 + Problems
Post by: joebeaudoin on March 12, 2004, 10:39:25 am
Last night I flashed my 5600 with the lastest build of OZ 3.3.5.  While most of it seems functional enough (and from what I saw, far superior to Sharp\'s default apps), two problems sprang up.

1. Whenever I did something, text (as if from a terminal) came up from the bottom from the screen.  It seemed to push the gui up, although when I went to tap on something, like an applet (in its original place), it still came up.

2. The timeclock is reading as if I was back in 31 Dec 1969.  It does seem to increment, however, because I\'m in the First of January -- 1970!

If anyone can help with these two problems, I may be on my way to a working OZ 3.3.5 on the SL-5600!

1.  I had this exact same problem, apparently many people do.  open /etc/init.d/opie with your favorite editor, nano will do.   Below the first two lines (they start with #) add this line (without quotes) \"echo 1 ] /proc/sys/kernel/printk\" .  Now do a reboot, and the problem should be gone.

2.  The date seems to reset when the zaurus is restarted, so don\'t restart it unless you don\'t have to, just suspend it.  ie hold down the cancel button for a second.

Hope that helps.

Thanks elykyllek!

1. It works.  Though I wonder why this piece of code wasn\'t mentioned in any of the OZ docs or even inserted in the actual opie script...?

2. Yes, I figured this out... I was hoping there was a way to avoid this occurrence.

BTW, I\'ll try and help out by posting a HOW-TO on installling OZ on a 5600, once I get everything I need to get done, done. :-)

I \'m having the same issue.  My time resets back to dec 31, 1969 after any reboot.

I\'ve played around with hwclock and used it to set the clock in hardware, but after a reboot it does the same thing and the hardware clock has been changed to dec 31, 1969... very annoying.

I have no idea of the started up process of open zaurus or opie, but i suspect there is a script some where that\'s messing this up...

If anyone has any ideas please let me know.
