Title: Squashfs 3 For 2.4.20?
Post by: adf on August 11, 2007, 02:38:14 am
Here it the tarball for squashfs 3.1. there is a 2.4.20 patch in it if anyone (like eviljazz or meanie, maybe?) has a 2.95 corsscompiler and a configured kernel source ready to roll.
The reason I put it up is than in my experience 3.x makes smaller files than 2.x, and 3.x has a higher file-size limit, allowing for bigger squashes. Basically, this would make for a better system than the current 2.x squash in all the 2.4 kernels for the Z, as far as I can tell.
(if you'd guessed by my sudden burst of posts on compressed filesystems, I am working on loop mounting some fairly huge stuff)

I already tried to get 3.x working. There was some nasty problem with colliding definitions in some include files, which I couldn't solve in a hurry. So I went with the latest 2.x release instead.
I might give it another try next weekend.

Btw, back when I was still using my C750 I had some good results overlaying a writeable gzipfs over a mounted squashfs filesystem. Haven't tried on my C3200 (and 2.4.20) yet.

mini_fo for the overlay fs: http://www.denx.de/wiki/Know/MiniFOHome (http://www.denx.de/wiki/Know/MiniFOHome)
mini_fo instead because unionfs was one big bug. No idea how unionfs has evolved and if it's stable now...

My sig has links to some of the old stuff.
