Hi all,
recently my dad purchased a Zaurus sl-c1000 and told me to install something more useful on it
This is what i wanted to get working on the Zaurus:
-simple windowmanager (fluxbox, blackbox,fvwm)
-multiuser setup
-native development (fortran, c++)
-programs like xpdf, gnumeric
-properly suspend
Until now I ve tried out the last version of OZ with gpe, pdaXrom and pdaXiirom
On both, pdaXrom and pdaXiirom, suspend has been a problem. Not sure why,
Is that a common problem with those Roms?
The last Rom i installed, has been OZ.
Suspending and multiuser setup works very well. I even managed to get gcc working.
Next I installed blackbox because i wanted something more useful than gpe
but it wasnt working because of the disabled colormanagement in X11. (i tried to recompile x11 with colormanagement enabled, but no success)
Which Rom would you suggest me to use? Is angstrom a try worth?
Thanks in advance

Check a similar discussion in section ROMs/Newbie question from this week.
I was in the same situation as you were and finally I settled with pdaXii13 later upgraded to Xiiv2. Mainly because of ease of setting up WLAN support. And it is obviously a very user friendly distro.
Good luck.

pdaxii suspends just fine for me-- and does media playback and bluetooth painlessly as well. if you want to simply USE your Z think seriously about pdaxii

I vote for CrackO. EZ to use. Doom, heretic and quake in fullscreen + emulators up the, but I digress. VLC 8.5 to stream your SOMAFM. Come-on I dont want to work, just have a good time! You got to go with the CrackHead!

I'd vote pdaXrom r198 or maybe Debian.
-Both are easy to get Blackbox, Fluxbox, Fvwm, JWM, IceWM, etc. running on
-pdaXrom multi-user isn't too intuitive, but it can be done without a ton of work (at least I got a second user running decently enough to play Freeciv with). I suspect Debian is much better
-pdaXrom has GCC/G++, I don't think it has fortran. Debian probably does have Fortran, and it does have GCC/G++.
-Both are known to have both programs and other PDF readers (evince, etc.)
-I've only had suspend issues with r198 when using EvilWM (great WM if you like lightweight, in my feed), but fixed them in my version.
If you don't have a big SD to run Debian off of (I think that's how you have to do it), use pdaXrom, otherwise, try both. I'd say stay away from Angstrom if you just want to be a user (also it's GPE, which apparently you don't like (me neither)).

If you want lighter-than-fluxboxl-light (sounds strangely like a laundry detergent commercial) you can try pdaXrom R198 and Celestial Environment (EvilVM tweaked for pdaXrom).
