on pdaxii13, cardctl ident gives:
socket 1:
Product info, "","",""
manfid 0x000a,0x0000
function 4 (fixed disk)
I'm guessing that all those zeros means the Z has no real idea what the card is?
If so, is there another method to check? would A-Data have the info?

I went here and looked at a very long list of manfid descriptions, and found none referring to storage devices or drives.
http://tuxmobil.org/pcmcia_linux_manfid.html (http://tuxmobil.org/pcmcia_linux_manfid.html)
The manfid for my C3100 microdrive is shown below (from the console)
cardctl ident
Socket 1:
product info: "HITACHI", "microdrive"
manfid: 0x0319, 0x0000
function: 4 (fixed disk)
EDIT:
I also found a site that lists manfid numbers for ethernet cards only.
http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Ethernet-HOWTO-4.html (http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Ethernet-HOWTO-4.html)
I'm hoping there must be a site with most all available manfid s
The first site above shows many of these manfid, but they are for network, bluetooth, and other purpose cards, (excluding drives and storage cards)

the ~a,~0 code wouldn't worry me quite so much as the fact there's no text in the ident strings. Are you sure the card slot isn't suspended? "cardctl resume" and see what it says? Maybe it's asking too much power for the Z to handle and dropping out?
Does the card work with a cf to pcmcia in a laptop?
