Anyone have a source for a replacement battery for the 3100 that has a good price? I will be depending on my Zaurus for some months as my sole access, and want to be sure I have a good battery. But US $90+ is a bit steep.
Obviously I want something that will not fry the beast as well.

I've bought mine from BraunOni'a BatteryUpgrade.com (http://www.batteryupgrade.com).
Three already, no problems.
-
Thanks! Those look like good deals (and have good mAh ratings).
Maybe we should pin a thread on places to get batteries?

Wos, that's more like it. Thanks. Their prices were about 1/3 what some other sites were asking. I hope it works...

The good news is that the battery arrived fairly quickly. The bad news is that it does not seem to work!
I put it in, close the cover, plug in the charger, and the yellow light blinks and blinks. This is the same signal it gives when there is not battery at all. Can it be that it only needs charging? The contacts on the battery seem to be a bit more deeply recessed than the original, could that mean that contact is not being made? Anyone? I will try leaving it to charge overnight, with the O/S shut down, in hopes of bringing it back to life.

Ah, still. Contact problem, don't worry, been there, seen that. I contacted the seller about this, and they replyed that they will contact the manufacturer, but apparently nothing has happened. There was already a discussion about this matter
here, but can't find it now. Anyway you have to carve some plastics around the battery contacts, they are a bit two
deep. After that you perhaps have to tape a folded paper piece or something to the bottom of the battery, so that
it will sit in tightly.
Sorry that I forgot to mention that, but after doing those measures by batteries have worked flawlessy. I have not
oppened my battery cover for a long time, so didn't remember that.

Ahh. Seems to be working; the charging light is lit now. Thanks.

Good to hear!

solved (i hope) with 3 little aluminium paper inserted on the contacts.......

bad news:
after some hours of charging, i try to wake up the zaurus but it doesn't want to........
please help !
i've mailed braunoni for some help too...

I tried the foil route with my 3rd-party batteries and didn't have much luck, even though I could get the charging light to stay on. Using a hobby knife/scalpel to cut away the thin plastic strip between the bottom edge of each terminal and the case seam did wonders to get the battery working, and it only took 30 seconds
The problem isn't really that the contacts are too deep, but that plastic strip presses against the spring contacts and keeps them from reaching the terminals.

you were right ! i took a swiss knife and i completely remove the two middle plastic strip and now it seems to work ! let's have a full charge to see how much time it can handle now
thanks for your help!
ps: i think i'll put a picture here to help

I just got one of these batteries, and feel obligated to share my experiences. You do need to carve some plastic away from the terminals AND add some tape (3-5 layers of Scotch for me) on the back (side opposite the terminals) for it to work*, as has been reported. It feels a bit tighter getting it in vertically, but is horizontally shorter (hence the tape on the back). Haven't gotten around to testing yet, will report when I do.
*Works fine out of the box on my C750 (used to charge the first time as I was using the C3100 at the time).

I am using a couple of them and have found them to work well. Instead of carving away some of the plastic on the contact end, I rub it on a piece of sandpaper briefly and find that i get a better finish than carving with a knife.

Why didn't I think of that? It's much simpler/safer/tidier than the knife method.
You're a genius!

You're welcome, but genius is kind a a strong word the plastic sands reeeely easily....use a fine grit and don't sand too much. Thanks.

The battery seems to be working well and gives maybe an extra hour of runtime (when doing CPU-intensive tasks, like playing Freeciv). I did have to add a few more layers of tape to make it stay in better, but otherwise no problems.
I would definitely recommend this battery, especially at that price.

I didn't notice the part about free worldwide shipping. I figured the shipping & handling charges would be the deal breaker, but if the listed price is the total amount you pay, that really is a great deal!
Now I'm wishing I had a battery charger!

I have also purchased these replacement batteries. They are wonderful, but do require a small bit of delicate modification to trim away the plastic. A steady hand with an X-acto knife, or a dremel, makes short work of this ... but voids the battery warranty.

I bought one of these from http://www.batteryupgrade.com/ (http://www.batteryupgrade.com/) and was prepared to have to shave the plastic around the contacts. They must have fixed that issue, because I didn't have to trim the plastic at all. (Either that, or the C1000 is built slightly different from the 3x00 series.)
I've been using it without problems for about 2 weeks.

I am looking for a battery for my C750 too.
the battery on http://www.batteryupgrade.com (http://www.batteryupgrade.com) looks like the one on ebay (search for EA-BL08) which is much cheaper.

Are your batteries from this site still going strong? I have bought cheap batteries for my small devices before and they end up lasting less then the original older battery after a couple of months.

Sharp Zaurus Shop www.pulster.de - we still stock the batteries, thanks. Chris
