May i ask respectfully where the sources of the TichyLinux kernel are located ??
I mean isnt't this the whole point of the GPL ??
Providing the sources to the kernel and the patches ??

I believe that Neil did not compile the kernel supplied but that he has provided the information as to where to get the source. He has also indicated where to find other sources for other possible kernels. One of the commenters on his site has pointed to other working kernels and the sites which contain them have the source of the kernels there.
He has also indicated where to obtain, on his site, the tools for editing and recompiling the updater.sh.
Another thread here discusses using some of those kernels referred to above. Yet another thread refers to attempts to compile modified kernels for TitchyLinux.
The links to the kernels and their source do not need posting here by me. They are in the relevant threads and in the comments on the TitchyLinux site.

That is still a violation of the GPL. The person that distributes the binary (Neil) must be able to give you the *exact* source and buildscripts used to compile that kernel. See http://www.openembedded.org/gpl-causing-pr...e-linux-distros (http://www.openembedded.org/gpl-causing-problems-for-derivative-linux-distros) for some links and more details.

I have alerted Neil to your concerns.
It does occur to me that if Neil, downloads the sources and scripts, burns them to cd and offers a copy of that cd to anyone who asks for it, then the gpl would be complied with. Of course, he would be entitled to make a reasonable charge to cover the costs of duplication, post and packing, wouldn't he?

AFAIK, that is correct, although I have seem people arguing the fact that if you publish the binaries online the sources should be online as well, but in the end I don't care about that, having access to the source is the important thing.

Thank you for confirming that!
Of course the nice thing about a main-line Zaurus distro, based on Debian, is that we can patch our own kernels easily and swap them in. Basically we can grab the vanilla sources and patch them to suit our fancy. I suppose that you would argue that if I made my own kernel with improved sound/video modules that I would have to provide the sources, if I passed it on to a colleague or friend? I suppose I'd have to do the burn it to a cd route also.
It would be more convenient if TitchyLinux was able to host source trees for the kernels. Perhaps someone might offer to host the files for us?

Since i started this thread:
1. I'm NOT "some of the more 'rigorous' types from the OPIE/Angstrom group"
2. I'm just a linux user
3. The answers given in this thread are the reason why i asked:
- "search the forums"
- "look in the comments section"
- "search the Angstrom Site"
Neil should have placed the link to the sources next to the link of the binary !!
And if he is using the Angstrom Kernel and points to their site for download of the sources he should also have their consent to host this for him.
I really dont sse a big problem here but offering a CD would be ok but also a little counter productive.
Maybe its just because im used to have all sources of my software at hand because im running gentoo.
Btw. shouldn't apt-get get me the sources from the repository ??
Really, this was not to upset anyone.

Apologies! Sorry for the sarcasm in the comment.
I edited the comment to get rid of the offending bits.
Neil has added an extra 'tab' to his TitchyLinux site. It has the title Sources. On that page is a tarred file for download which contains what people have been asking for? There are two useful links to the angstrom pages for further information.
